4 day jungle tour

Our guide Kevin was someone from the village where the lodge and grew up in the jungle himself. It was clear that the jungle was his home and he knew everything about all the animals and plants. He was passionate in taking us with him on the excursions and was very eager to show us around and learn us about all the jungles magic. We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights. We were picked up from the airport by car, then transfered to boat to the lodge and this all went down so smoothly, no hold ups whatsoever. These 3 days we did multiple tours differing from going by boat and by foot (mostly by boat because it was still rain season). The animals we saw during our stay was quite the list: gray dolphins, pink dolphins, tarantula, black widow, crocodiles, sloths, 9 kinds of monkeys and a lot birds including parrots, toucans and black eagles. We fished for piranhas and got to eat our catches. Also the track where he showed us the medicinal plants in the jungle was incredibly interesting. Lastly we also kanooed and were shown the village where he grew up along with the many stories about the cultures and rules in the jungle. All in all a very memorable experience that we will never forgot. Many thanks to Kevin because he really made this trip for us!

Wonderful Amazon Experience!!

This trip exceeded my expectations. Everything went so smoothly, and it was custom to our desires, so our guide did a GREAT job at doing the things we wanted to do and see. Our guide was Gomer and the boat driver was David over the 4 days. My friend and I enjoyed them so much and Gomer went above and beyond to make it a memorable experience. Our goal was to see a lot of animals, and we definitely accomplished that, even in dry season. The bungalow was comfortable, with hammocks to take a nap in during the afternoon time. All of our meals were fresh and delicious. We also got to walk through the local village that we were staying in, and that was neat!

Good Tours , but ...

No where mentioned, that electricity is available for 3 hours a day only. It's like prisson, at 21:00 light is switched off. In the night you need a flash light to use the toilet. Food is like christmas, be suprised what you get. The most was tasty. No beer, wine or Softdrinks available in the Lounge, you have to by from local shop, but you can put it in a fridge. Locals had mobile phone connection, but we was not able to connect to that "Special Network". The tours was good.

4 unforgettable days in the jungle - Pure adventure with indigenous community

Right in advance, this tour has nothing to do with mass tourism and well-trodden tourist trails, quite the contrary! The tourists are not played anything touristy here, the experiences are real. One of the most impressive tours I have ever done, which gives an insight into a completely different way of life and habitat. We were picked up at the hotel in Iquitos on time and drove by car to Nauta to change to a mototaxi that takes us to the port. The ride or transfers were a bit chaotic but perfectly planned. The adventure begins here! Then we met our guide Joel at the boat, who accompanied us for the next few days. We drove directly to the community of La Libertad, which consists of about 300 inhabitants who live a very simple life. The guides and chefs who work here live in the community themselves and know the area by heart. The accommodation is simple but above average well equipped for the jungle. The rooms have a private bathroom with running water and mosquito nets around the beds. We wanted adventure and were not disappointed. Over the next few days we had boat trips across the Ucayali River, jungle walks with successful sightings of monkeys, sloths and many special medicinal plants. In addition, we could watch Amazonian dolphins hunting fish, fish and eat piranhas, canoe, swim in the river and enjoy the idyllic tranquility. Our guides Joel and Alexander showed us their home equipped with machete and boat, shared their knowledge of the habitat and left us with a lasting fascination of the jungle and the locals' sense of nature. The night hike was certainly the most exciting of the 4 days stay there. We set off into the dark night of the jungle in search of caimans and tarantulas. A unique experience! We were there in November. This is officially the end of the dry season, which means we have been able to do many hikes on foot. The rainy season starts in December and the experience is certainly even different when everything is underwater. Unfortunately, even mosquitoes are a reality, no matter how much mosquito repellent you apply, the beasts bite you anyway. That's what you should be prepared for. Whatever you can adjust to: Delicious food and great food. 3 fresh and healthy meals daily are cooked. The tour can be customized, is safe and professional, everyone gets their own guide and the regular tourists secure jobs of the locals. A win-win situation that benefits everyone! If you want to do something good for the community, bring them simple medical devices and bandages, which is always needed there and is not enough. The project is an absolute heartfelt recommendation! Do you want to get to know a completely different life in a strange habitat and experience adventures? Then you are in the best hands here! Thank you for the hospitality and this special, unforgettable experience in your home!

Wonderful!

We went in January expecting it to rain the whole time and it was sunny and beautiful everyday. It was hot! I went with my adult son. The lodge had nice little huts for each of us and our own bathrooms. The food was delicious and the people were very friendly. The guide, Jamie Chavez, was outstanding! He and the boat driver took us places that we could hardly believe we were able to get to. We learned so much every time the guide opened his mouth I had to video his educational words so I didn't forget them. I really appreciated how skilled our guide was. I know there are a lot of places that use cheaper guides that do not have the training from the Guide Schools. This is too bad because those guides may be influenced by tourists who simply want a thrill, rather than a true jungle experience and what the guide shares is important information about the history and preservation of the Amazon, it's ecological importance and the importance to treat it with care! For example, we went looking for certain animals on a given day but one time we did not find what we were looking for. I did not mind that, and in fact thought it added to the tour of the day, because not only did we learn a lot of other things that day, but we appreciated the way wild animals live. This is not a zoo! Animals do not sit there waiting for you to take their picture. If you want to do that, go to a zoo! The guide should always keep the interest and needs of the Amazonas in primary position in his mind. He should not, for example, disturb sleeping monkeys for the sake of a tourist. That's a bad idea because then those monkeys will leave that place and won't be there the next time someone tries to take a tour to see them. I would suggest that the lodge add solar power, a better recycling program (there was no place for us to put any plastic we may have wanted to discard and I don't know that they separated compostables from paper), and teach their youth to clean up any stray plastic and to be stewards of the Amazon!

Peace of mind without worry

Organizing this excursion with Howlanders has been an excellent experience. Both the preparation, the consultations, how to adapt to our budget. The preparations for the trip went very smoothly. The arrival in Iquitos was for this reason of the most relaxed knowing at all times who was waiting for you, what the next steps were, total peace of mind without having to worry about the next step. Fully recommended. Being an area of difficult access and communications is the best way to move without any worries.
