We had a wonderful trip to Beijing. The city offered lots from historical landmarks to cultural performances. We took Odynovo Tours and our tour guide was Roy. Roy is a wonderful guide. His knowledge of Chinese history is just remarkable. We enjoyed hearing stories about past dynasties and emperors. We visited the Forbidden City, which palace complex was just stunning. Summer Palace has its lush gardens and peaceful lake. What a perfect place to enjoy a blending of natural and man made beauty. The Temple of Heaven was phenomenal! The Halls of Prayers with its avid blue colored roof & intricate details was surrounded by ancient cypress trees & wide open spaces. What a peaceful sanctuary! The view from the cable car ride made the Great Wall (Mutianyu) even more panoramic. As it was snowing that day, the sight was stunning. The acrobatic show was nothing short of spectacular. Talents and dedications were on full display as artists performed stunts which left us all on the edge of our seats. Last but not the least, the meals. We had the real Peking Duck for lunch and it lived up to its hype! Crispy skin, tender meat complemented with authentic thin pancake and special sauce. It sure was a culinary delight! We also tried other local cuisines- Laoman meat pie and green bean vegetable dish. They were absolutely flavorful! So a special thanks to our guide, Roy. He made the trip exceptional. He was knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about the country's history and culture. He has in-depth insights into historical and cultural significance on each site and even gifted us a quick reference guidebook on China's past dynasties. We appreciate it so much! After the tour, we walked away with a deeper understanding & appreciation of Beijing and China as a whole. I highly recommend visiting Beijing for its mixture of history, food and entertainment. And if you enjoy stories about past dynasties & emperors, Roy would be a fantastic guide. You won't regret it.
