À son apogée, elle abritait 365 églises – une pour chaque jour de l’année – dont beaucoup remontent au XIe siècle et demeurent d’importants repères architecturaux et spirituels. Situé sur la falaise sur la plage de Kaneo surplombant le lac Ohrid dans la ville d'Ohrid, en Macédoine du Nord. L'église est dédiée à Jean de Patmos, l'écrivain de l'Apocalypse, qui a été considéré par certains comme la même personne que Jean l'Apôtre.
Visitez le centre-ville et le quartier du vieux bazar où nous verrons les maisons typiques d'Ohrid. La majeure partie de la ville est pavée de pierre, une raison pour laquelle elle a d'abord été appelée Lyhnidas provenant de la langue latine (une pierre précieuse qui émet de la lumière.
En quittant Tirana à 09h00, nous nous dirigerons vers le sud-est de l'Albanie. Après être entrée dans la frontière macédonienne, la première ville est Struga, du nom d'une ancienne légende locale d'un jeune garçon. Ohrid est situé à côté de Stuga, sur les rives du même lac pendant des siècles a été le lieu où les différentes cultures doivent se rencontrer. Fondé à partir d'anciennes tribus illiraines et grecques, il est passé dans de nombreux systèmes de dénivellation tels que romain, byzantin, bulgare, turc, serbe, Yougoslavie et fait récemment partie de la République indépendante de Macédoine du Nord. Situé dans les collines de la ville, il a été construit sous le règne du tsar bulgare Samuil au Xe siècle. On pense qu'il a intégré les colonies d'une ancienne fortification du 4ème siècle avant notre ère, construite par Philippe II.
Une partie de notre visite comprend une étape panoramique dans un village de montagne traditionnel, niché au pied de la chaîne de montagnes Jablanica. Connu pour ses sources naturelles, son environnement paisible et son charme macédonien authentique, ce village offre une pause rafraîchissante au bord du lac animé. Vous aurez la chance d'explorer les rues étroites et pavées, d'admirer des maisons en pierre rustiques et de profiter des sons apaisants de l'eau qui coule dans la région. I have traveled the globe and taken tour after tour but this particular company and the operator, Redi, was the very best! Simply historic, comfortable, easy, and I traveled with my wife, dog, and two kids! Take the tour!
A really interesting day out from Tirana, expertly driven and guided by Endri who was a mind of information, not just about the historical sights but also day to day life before and after communism rule. Absolutely top draw day out.
After searching the web, we decided to book our day trip to North Macedonia and Ohrid via Go as Local. What we liked was that we could book a privat tour, for the two of us. Contact with the company was seemless and great. All e-mails were answered quickly, also the payment online was easy. The tour itself was wonderful. Our guide, Redi, met us at the agreed time and place in Tirana. Redi was our driver and guide, and was fantastic. He was very proficient in English and had great knowledge about all we visited. The drive was great, and he took well care of us. We put in a short stop in Struga before reaching Ohrid. What we both liked about the tour, was that is was not rushed. Redi let us take our time. It was more like being with friends on a trip, not a stressed guided tour. All the highlights in Ohrid were visited, and Redi kept giving us all the information we needed. We had a great lunch at a local restaurant before continuing our trip to the last stop which was St. Naum's monastary. We had a full, enjoyable day, learning many things about the history and culture of Ohrid and its' surroundings. This was a fantastic day, thanks to Redi our guide. We can wholeheartedly recommend this trip and using the company Go as Local.
We took the private day tour from Tirana to Ohrid with Armand and it was a truly unforgettable experience. Armand is likeable, engaging and very prepared — you can clearly feel the passion he puts into his work. He customized the tour according to our needs and was committed to making the most of the day. The sites visited were simply breathtaking. Although it was a long day, with a long way to go on foot, it was absolutely worth it. Highly recommended!
I had been dreaming of visiting Lake Ohrid for a very long time and it’s been a truly magical experience 🤩 I picked Go As Local a bit by coincidence and I couldn’t be more grateful… 🙏 They were highly responsive & super professional. This was a last minute decision as I was waiting on the weather and it turned out to be a perfect day. It was an easy, comfortable journey with easy border crossings. The lake is absolutely beautiful. The town of Ohrid is picturesque and superbly located on the shore. The Ottoman architecture and winding streets were so nice. I think I would return spend longer there just relaxing. It was nice to visit out of season when it was not so busy. My guide, Engjëll, was super informative and friendly - we had a great day.
A great solo trip, where I discovered the beauty of Lake Ohrid and this city. Endri was an excellent guide. Although the trip is long, the views are stunning! Endri knows his history too! Worth every penny!

I did the day tour to Ohrid in North Macedonia with Daniel, a resident of Tirana, and can’t rate him too highly. He was well informed about history and many other subjects. Equally important to me, he was personable, friendly and amusing. I was picked up at my hotel in Tirana and dropped back there for the ultimate in convenience. Ohrid Lake and the city are beautiful, rich in history and intriguing. I can’t rate this experience any higher and strongly recommend both the tour and Daniel.
