I thought the booking process was great and commutation was excellent but throwing advanced divers in a boat filled with beginners and trainees at a premium price was disappointing. I was paired with someone who rarely dives and was worried more about her lack of being able to stay buoyant or conserve air for me to be able to relax and explore but she couldn't keep up with me as she slapped her arms instead of using her fins. I would look around and she'd be gone so I'd look up and she'd be somewhere above me. The second dive she ran out of air so the dive was cut short twice. First dive, I lost her and the group (it became confusing with so many people) and the second my buddy ran out of air. She was a sweetheart but there should be a separate boat for seasoned divers. Our dive master skipped the safety stops which I was nith thrilled with. I understand we had "situations" but once everyone was "OK" I expected to do safety stop at the line. Luckily we didn't go very deep and both dives were around 30 minutes. NOTE: We had to skip "Sail Rock" for low visibility, so the bright side was I saw Koh Tao and Nang Yuan. I understand a business wants to make money but I would not use any of the major dive operators as they're all thrown on the same boat (twenty people).
My 13 year old son did his open water dive course at the Dive Academy, he had a great time and felt very safe under the instruction of their Dive Instructor Alex who I highly recommend not just for adults but also kids. The pace was ideal and we were looked after from start to finish. The groups were small to allow for much more personal attention. I also came along for a Refresher dive and dive tour to Koh Tao and Sail Rock. Both were very well organised and the dives were all driven by the wants of the divers themselves in coordination with their Dive Master. The dive masters and instructors went out of their way to accommodate us and the highlight for us were the dives with Alex especially at Sail Rock.
Very well organized. Diving material that is rented out makes a very good impression, even if of course not the breathing comfort of a premium vending machine can be expected. Diving Guides Top, O2 and 1. Hilfe Material an Bord. We dived the Sail Roch. Not all alone there... ...but worth seeing.
I had the absolute pleasure of getting my PADI open water certificate with the Dive Academy and I cannot recommend them enough. A fantastic team with great vibes and a really great set up. I was lucky enough to have Michael as my instructor and he was the best. Very professional and was incredibly patient with me as I did things in my own pace, he always made sure I was comfortable and he really made my experience special! The Dive Academy has great dive sites, Koh Samui is absolutely beautiful so please make sure if you come to visit you book in with TDA to do a discover scuba or snorkel or even get your PADI open water! I’ll definitely be coming back again for another dive 🤙
The best dive I’ve done so far! Felt like I was in a David Attenborough Documentary. Diving instructor Hady was great and positive !
I can't comment on the trip as I wasn't able to go but this is to notify others to make sure they ask if a doctor's note is required. I wasn't able to go on the trip because I wasn't given enough notice (less than 24 hours) to get a doctor's note. When I spoke to them they said I could sign a liability form but then revoked this the evening before. The medication I take has not been flagged to me before as a potential issue without getting a doctor's note so I assumed all would be fine. They were very apologetic and it sounded like a temporary staff education matter.
One of the worst dive centers I have ever dived with. The staff does their best for all divers but the company lacks professionalism, values and dive attitude. They completely lack environmental work, the staff threw abandoned food into the sea. They smoked on the boat without regard for non-smokers. And they are expensive, because they can charge.
Not much to improve upon.I am an AOW diver. I had 4 good rec dive experiences, everything was well organized. Transfer from hotel was on time and well done. Food was adequate and plentiful. Staff were super helpful and willing to assist in whatever was asked of them. Andrei, my dive instructor was very adaptable and knowledgeable, made my dives very successful. I am usually over honest in my reviews so when I don't offer some minor constructive criticism it means you are in the ball.
Full marks for Dan and The Dive Academy - thanks for a great experience! This was my first dive from Samui, to Sail Rock, and first from a speedboat (the rest being from a big dive boat on Koh Tao). First thing to point out is that the speedboat experience is very different - noisy, bouncy, crowded. This was well explained and managed by the team beforehand though and it felt like a well oiled machine. Before we left Dan explained what we might expect in terms of visibility, current, and sea life, as well as what to expect from the travel to, from, and the break between two dives. I was diving with one other customer, and had a leader but also a training Divemaster so the ratio of experts to punters was reassuring. Dan was awesome - great mix of authority where safety was concerned, and fun, and an infectious excitement for the wonders of the deep. He pointed out various creatures which would have been easy to miss, and identified others underwater for me (with pencil and whiteboard thing). Very highly recommended - thanks again!
Thank you so much for your detailed and glowing review! We're thrilled to hear you had such a fantastic experience with Dan and The Dive Academy. Sail Rock is an extraordinary dive site, and we're delighted you chose to explore it with us for your first dive from Samui. Sail Rock is arguably the best dive site we have in these waters, not only because it is the best place to try to see a whale shark but also because, even without a whale shark, the amount and variety of fish have no comparison with any other dive site. We do two dives there every time we go. While the speedboat experience is indeed different from a big dive boat, we choose speedboats to get to the dive sites as quickly as possible, allowing you to enjoy a more relaxed and longer experience at the dive sites. We're glad the team prepared you well for what to expect and made the trip as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Having a dedicated leader and a training Divemaster ensures that safety and guidance are always top priorities, and it's great to hear that this ratio provided you with confidence throughout the dives. Our instructors have been working with us for many years and truly understand the importance of customer service and safety. Dan is indeed a phenomenal instructor with a perfect balance of professionalism and passion. His ability to share his enthusiasm for marine life while ensuring everyone's safety is what makes him such a valuable part of our team. Thank you for recommending us, and we hope to welcome you back for more unforgettable underwater adventures in the future!
Very well organised. Very good instructor ( Étienne).Boat a bite too small for size of the group. Great experience. Can recommend.
Thank you for your thoughtful review! We’re delighted to hear that you found our operations well organized and that Étienne provided you with an excellent experience. We appreciate your feedback about the boat size; while we strive to ensure a comfortable experience, we also want to highlight that with both 2-engine and 3-engine speedboats, we can get to the dive sites quickly, allowing for more time for relaxed, longer dives, even though the boat can sometimes get a bit full. It’s great to know you had a memorable experience, and we truly appreciate your recommendation. We hope to see you again for more diving adventures in the future!
