Amazing experience! Our guides Noah, Alixe and Micah were so experienced, organized and knowledgeable making the day super fun and exciting!!
We scheduled, just the two of us, knowing there would be others. The scheduling was very easy and succinct. I immediately received instructions on what to expect and what to bring or not bring. The train trip was scheduled by them and was effortless for us. We arrived and met 13 other people who were very fun and of all ages. We had three guides who were AMAZING - very educational, very safety oriented and just plain excellent. We kayaked, hiked, rode yet another train through mountains to see gorges and wildlife...just amazing to see the things you just can't see otherwise. We then had a coach awaiting to take us back to Anchorage - again, effortless. A very eventful and busy day and well worth it!
This particular activity doesn't seem to have its own section here, but I wanted to make it clear that the Glacier Float tour is not as advertised. The pictures on their website imply you spend time floating around checking out the glacier and ice bergs. According to a guide we asked, they don't do this. The only reason we did this trip was to get a closer look at the glacier bits - we had already done a big boat experience. We zoomed by glacier lake and then just drifted down river with scenery you could see anywhere. For $700 for the two of us, I was very disappointed. I don't even think the full day glacier big boat tour we did with a different company cost that much.
This tour was the highlight of our time in Alaska. We were picked up by the train in Girdwood, and traveled to Spencer Glacier. There we paddled over to the glacier then walked closer to it. All the while, you could feel the majesty of the place all around you. So wonderful. Once we got back to the landside, we had a plentiful box lunch, then hopped on the train to Grandview to see scenery only accessible by train or air. It was the right length of everything. It never got boring and was so stunningly beautiful.
I did the Spencer Glacier kayak tour, we were absolutely lucky with the weather, bluebird day, clear and crisp in the morning, an ice sheet on the lake, it was just magical. We came close to the Glacier, words or pictures can't describe the beauty and how powerful the Glacier looks. We stopped at a beach across the lake and had a hot chocolate, hiked up to a viewing point where we could oversee the full Glacier, just stunning. Then we kayaked a little more and stopped at one more beach and had the most amazing lunch you can have in front of the Glacier; that's usually not happening, so that was a special treat for us :). The lunch prepared was very thoughtful and tasty. After going back, we hopped onto the train and drove through the beautiful scenery of the Turnagain arm. All in all, it was a long day, but worth it! Made new friends on the way! Our guides Noah and Caroline were super nice!
We loved our experience kayaking among the icebergs and the Spencer Glacier. It was so unique that our ten year old called it "amazing" (and he is a tough critic). Our guide, Brianna, was very friendly and helpful and answered all of our questions.
This was an Awesome experience! Well planned out by the guides which were super friendly and helpful. The train ride was cool also- saw a moose along the way! Lunch was delicious. Couldn’t ask for a better day. I traveled Solo but quickly felt like part of the family
Wow, what a great experience. It didn't hurt that the sun was shining and so it was much warmer than it could have been. Our guides, Rhue and Caroline, were very welcoming, informative, and helpful. The water was flat, and we guided our kayaks between the ice which was beautiful. They made sure that we were all safely across the lake and back. Once across the lake, we walked to a higher and closer vantage point to take in the beauty of the glacier. Lunch was delicious and I love that there was not much trash in their packaging. They used reusable containers and cute cloth bags to pack each lunch. Then back to the train for a glorious ride through glaciers not seen from the road. We were even lucky enough to see a bear and her cub cross our path at the Grandview glacier. The entire trip was timed perfectly, and we arrived back in town at the designated end time.
Awesome staff. They were very attentive, safety conscious and personable. Small group and plenty of personal attention. Never felt unsafe. Awesome views and lunch. Would highly recommend.
The most fabulous thrilling and breathtaking experience you can have from Anchorage. It starts with a train ride from Anchorage to the Whistle Stop, a remote end of civilization place, but just ahead is the breathtaking Spencer Lake and Spencer Glacier. The guides are all well informed seasoned and knowledgeable- They had everything covered. We kayaked 2.5 miles across the freezing waters and saw the most spectacular sites. Then we hiked about a mile to a ridge where we got a better view of the huge glacier. Kayaking back was easier where a sack lunch was waiting for us. Afterward our journey took us on a scenic train ride further up the Chugach National Forest where we saw black bears and bear cubs. However if I had known about the rafting option, others took a raft down the river (not sure of the rivers name), we may have done that. Awesome experience. Totally worth the money and worth the 6 am train time. The only thing I can say is that we didn’t know what to do at the train station at 6 am. We assumed a tour rep would have met us there. They did not. Just go to the ticketing station and pick up your ticket that is prearranged for you. It will be there waiting for you. But after that slight uncertainty, all went as according to plan. Loved it so much. Thanks Alex, our bird loving wonderful guide.
