Dashaswamedh Ghat : - Le ghat Dashashwamedh est l'un des ghats les plus anciens, les plus spectaculaires et les plus importants, situé au bord du Gange, près de l'ancien temple de Vishwanath dans le Kashi. La signification littérale du Dashashwamedh est le Ghat (bord de rivière) des dix chevaux sacrifiés (tiret signifie 10, ashwa signifie cheval, medh signifie sacrifice). Il existe deux mythologies à propos du ghat : le Seigneur Brahma a été créé le ghat Dashashwamedh afin d'accueillir le Seigneur Shiva, et la seconde est que le Seigneur Brahma a sacrifié les dix chevaux dans un yajna ici. Ce ghat est célèbre pour l'Agni Pooja qui y est célébré quotidiennement le soir par un groupe de prêtres dédiés au Seigneur Shiva, au fleuve Gange, à Surya, à Agni ainsi qu'à l'univers entier.
Construit sous la direction du Peshwa Amritrao de Pune en 1807, RajaGhat a été décrit comme Amritrao Ghat par James Prinsep en 1831 et Grimes en 1909. Dispersé dans une zone massive, le sud de Ghat abrite Annapurna Math et la partie nord possède une forteresse.
Harish Chandra ghat est l'un des deux ghats de crémation et est également connu sous le nom d'Adi Manikarnika, ce qui signifie le terrain de création original. Il est beaucoup plus petit que Manikarnika et constitue un ghat plus important pour la crémation. Cependant, les hindous viennent de lieux éloignés dans ce ghat pour y faire incinérer leurs morts, car beaucoup croient qu'ils obtiendraient moksha (salut). C'est l'un des plus anciens ghats de la ville sainte de Varanasi et il doit son nom au roi mythologique Harish Chandra. On raconte que le roi travailla autrefois sur ce ghat pour la persévérance de la vérité et de la charité. Les dieux impressionnés par ses efforts le récompensèrent et lui rendirent son royaume perdu et son fils mort. Le ghat a été modernisé dans les années 1980 lorsqu'un crématorium électrique y a été installé.
Manikarnika est l'un des cinq pèlerinages et ghats majeurs et les plus anciens de Kashi. Ce ghat a été nommé Manikarnika en raison du Manikarnika Kund situé sur le ghat et de l'histoire qui lui est associée. On sait qu'au début ce ghat était l'un des principaux pèlerinages de Vishnu et que Manikarnika Kund situé au ghat était connu sous le nom de Chakrapushkarni. Selon la croyance, lorsque Shiva Parvati observait l'étang, la gemme de l'oreille de Parvati tomba à Chakrapushkarni. Il a été nommé Manikarnika en raison de la chute de la pierre précieuse de l'oreille de Parvati. Actuellement, ce ghat de Kashi est célèbre à la fois pour son lieu de pèlerinage et de crémation. Ce ghat revêt une importance particulière du point de vue des activités religieuses et culturelles et des baigneurs. Il y a une importance particulière de se baigner ici lors des festivals de l'éclipse Soleil-Lune, Prabodhini et Nirjala Ekadashi, Makar et Aries Sankranti, Ganga Dussehra, Teej, Kajri, Chhath, Bhaiya Dooj etc.

An unforgettable sunrise experience on the Ganges in Varanasi. Seeing the city awaken from the water as the first light touched the ghats was absolutely beautiful and gave a unique perspective of this ancient and spiritual place. Badal was fantastic throughout the tour—warm, professional, and full of knowledge. He shared many interesting stories and historical insights about Varanasi, explaining traditions and landmarks in a way that was both engaging and easy to understand. Beautiful morning boat ride with the sun rising. Our tour guide, Akash, explained much of the Indian culture and was kind enough to get off the boat to explain the crematorium ghats to us in great detail. Great tour!
