DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR! A complete Ripoff!!! I paid $98 and I had to travel on my own for a journey of 14hrs total ( no guide along the way). I had to take 2 buses and 2 boats (I paid for) + paid the terminal fees to get to the place and there was no guide waiting, after 20 minutes someone showed up to say the guide is late. One of the buses almost left me because I didn’t have proper instructions on where the bus will be parked on one of the transfers and I literally had to run after the bus and thank god they saw me. Picture this scenario in the middle of Bolivia being a foreigner. When finally we got to the Sun Island we only had 1 hour to explore. Yes 1 hour of tour for 14hrs of travel. No water was provided either, which is common in tours like this especially with the Altitude. On the return another 2 boats and 2 buses being night time. The company only provided the bus tickets which cost only 40 Bolivianos (around $4 usd) I could have done all this for $20 max. To top it off the bus ticket they provided for the return was in a different cheaper looking bus which left the people who purchased the tour far away from the bus terminal which was the supposedly point of meeting and return. A complete nightmare. Trip Advisor should not let companies like BUHOS TOURS destroy their reputation or scam their clients.
I apologize for what happened on your trip and appreciate your comment. When you made your reservation, it detailed what was included and what wasn't. Likewise, we sent you messages one day about how the trip would go, whether to answer your questions about this activity, and give you bus information. I'm truly sorry and I apologize. We've just upgraded our Copacabana trip so the inconvenience won't happen again, and this time it will be different. We work for the good and we have already changed. Best regards.
The team helped and supported us in everything we need, they were punctual, explanatory. He delivered fully as we expected.
The agency is very disorganized. I was informed of almost nothing. I took the wrong bus to Copacabana. Whoever welcomed me in Copacabana was not my Guide. What saved the tour was the Guide on the Sun Island who even helped me around. When I arrived at the destination in La Paz I did not find the person who would pick me up at the point and leave me at the hotel. I had to get a taxi at 22:00. I do not recommend the Buhos agency
The view from the Island of the Sun was remarkable. Our hike on the island afforded us some beautiful vistas.
Excellent attention from the guide, very friendly and helpful. He was always attentive to our needs, and at our time I highly recommend him.
The areas visited were amazingly beautiful, the guide was amazing, my only concern is the travel time spent on the bus to and from the sites from La Paz. Also the the time spent on the boat to and from Copacabana. My suggestion to anyone visiting this sites, stay in Copacabana for a day or two.
We were looking forward to this trip but it turned out to be a disappointing experience. The listing omitted important details, mentioned things that didnt happen and sold us something we didn't get. The trip never mentioned the journey time of 4 hours each way. When they mention shared boats/buses they mean public transport. All travel took place on public transport which had continual stops. The trip listed 2 hours at Copacabana. This actually consisted of 1 hour lunch , 10 minutes at the church and a 5 minute walk to the boat - that isn’t two hours. The description said we would spend 3 hours in total on the Isla del Sol. We spent 1 hour only. The day consisted of 4 hour bus ride to Copacabana on the public tourist bus from the bus station in La Paz 10 minutes standing outside the church 1 hour lunch 1 hr 20 minute boat ride on literally the slowest boat on the island (boats leaving after us were overtaking us) If was being cynical I could say the slow boat padded out the day. An hours walk across Sun Island (which i’ll agree was nice) Another painfully slow 1 hr 20 minute return boat ride to Copacabana A 4 hour public bus ride back to La Paz If I allow for the pleasant (but slow) outgoing boat ride to sun island it’s essentially 9 hours of travelling for a 1 hour walk and lunch. Not worth it. While the guide explained things quite well we had trouble understanding everything he said and he as well often didn’t understand what we were asking him. A couple of other points: We had to be pay to leave the bus station - not mentioned at all The guide met and left us at Cobacabana - the rest of the time you’re on your own on publc transport. The listing says "speedboat". Speed was not a feature of the boat we were put on as we were transported to Sun Island on literally the slowest boat on the island (boats leaving after us were overtaking us) Its almost like the slow boat was used to pad out the day. Not sure what he visit to the magnificent Pilkokaina Palace was meant to be. A palace was never mentioned/seen.. To pay so much for using public transport for all parts of the trip feels like a rip off. For us the value was not there and might explain why we were the only two people on it. If you do consider a day trip to Sun Island worth the effort you should compare costs with doing this yourself before booking. If I allow for the pleasant (but slow) outgoing boat ride to sun island it’s essentially 9 hours of travelling for a 1 hour walk and lunch. Not worth it - and good luck trying to get a refund from Viator.
Good afternoon, I am sorry that your trip did not meet your expectations and your opinion makes us work harder. I want to clarify a few points: - When shared transport is mentioned, it means that we are going to go with other people. - The two hours in Copacabana count from the moment they arrive until they take the boat. - The 3 hours on Isla del Sol is the same way from Copacabana and back I spoke with the staff to follow up on your trip in this way, we made some pick-up assistance from the bus terminal to his hotel, indicating to my colleague that everything had been good, contradicting yourself.. This detail of the assistance is not included (a gesture of kindness and not paid) that is, from the bus terminal (where the service ends) we bothered to finish at your hotel. I will study your comment to improve our experiences in the future. Best wishes.
