Au cours de ses 900 ans d'histoire, le château a abrité pas moins de six reines et a rempli de nombreuses fonctions, notamment en servant de garnison, de prison et de la résidence privée imposante de ses derniers propriétaires. Un site classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO, la cathédrale de Canterbury est à la fois un lieu serein de sainteté et une belle destination touristique. En tant que cathédrale de l'archevêque, chef spirituel de l'Église d'Angleterre, Cantorbéry occupe une place particulière dans l'histoire britannique. Cathédrale ordinaire, Canterbury a une longue histoire souvent qualifiée d’Angleterre en pierre; Du rôle de ses archevêques dans la Magna Carta au meurtre de Thomas Becket après une lutte pour le pouvoir avec le roi d’Angleterre, l’histoire de Cantorbéry est intimement liée à celle de l’Angleterre. Fondée par saint Augustin en 600 après JC, la cathédrale est aujourd'hui l'un des plus beaux exemples d'architecture gothique en Angleterre et le premier bâtiment du pays à avoir été redessiné dans ce style populaire en 1774.
Dover Castle est un château médiéval situé à Dover, dans le Kent, en Angleterre. Elle a été fondée au 11ème siècle et a été décrite comme la "clé de l'Angleterre" en raison de son importance défensive à travers l'histoire. C'est le plus grand château d'Angleterre.
S'élevant à 350 pieds au-dessus des vagues déferlantes de la Manche, les White Cliffs of Dover sont un point de repère immédiatement reconnaissable de la Grande-Bretagne. De César à Shakespeare, certaines des figures les plus importantes de l’histoire ont reconnu le symbolisme dominant des falaises. Traditionnellement le site où la royauté britannique accueillait les visiteurs d'outre-mer, les falaises constituaient un rappel intimidant du sentiment d'indépendance immuable de la Grande-Bretagne.

This was a good tour, but not sufficient for the money paid for it. The biggest objection was the Guide, Sasha. At the start she was so excited and excitable that even as we were boarding I had to ask her if she'd already had 6 cups of coffee. It was impressive at the start, but her over-enthusiasm became tiresome and frustrating as the tour wore on. By the time we were half through we were fairly sure she was on some sort of drug-uppers. By the end we were quite sure of it. Worse, at the beginning we were issued listening boxes for the Cathedral. Nice! But by the time we got there she said "Never mind" and merely pointed to the Cathedral and said, "Go look for yourself." Why not? I do not know where she disappeared to. So our tour of the Canterbury Cathedral itself, supposedly the highlight of the tour, was much less than it might have been. Also, at Leeds Castle there were voice boxes but we were not authorized to use them. She also several times would not wait for stragglers and marched on leaving some of the guests to try to find the group. On the whole I would give the sights an A, the very-talkative Driver of the bus a C and the Tour Guide a D-. KRM and JWB
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience going to Leeds Castle, White Cliffs of Dover and Canterbury Cathedral today. Manon was an exceptionally knowledgeable guide, extremely friendly and she knew all the best spots for great pictures (she even took on the task of Volunteer Photographer). We really feel this experience was more than worth the price we paid. Also, I feel the need to mention our driver, Greg, as he expertly navigated the bus while we all took in the sites.

Our tour was BEYOND expectations and simply wonderful. Our tour guide, Phil, was exceptional and really deserves a raise!! His comments were insightful and personal. I appreciated his passion for history and deep love for his home country. Not to mention, he greeted each of us individually on the bus and encouraged us to ask questions along the way. He spoke in a clear and engaging way and never tired when talking to us during the entire bus ride there and back! Very impressive. Overall our trip and the locations were fantastic! What made the outing so special was the tour guide we had, Phil. It was obvious that he was devoted to his job and he gave so many intriguing facts!! We ended up taking two more tours and Phil proved to be very superior to our next two guides. He went above and beyond expectations and we learned so much. Our whole party agreed we'd come back to London solely for his tour. There was so much he taught us we didn't know and we especially felt he was very good at retelling history from a non-bias standpoint. We 100% recommend Phil and Evan and Evans tours. The locations are beautiful and our day was spent very well. If anyone asked, I would be absolutely delighted to let them know how much the tour fu-PHIL-ed everything we hoped for and more. The tour was extremely interesting and even though it's a long day, it's a good amount of stops and time with the travel time. Canterbury Cathedral was a dream to see. My only comment about the cliffs is that I assumed we would drive at the top and see the view from the cliffs. The view is from the sea level and beach, so know that before going. Lesley was a great tour guide and had a breadth of knowledge and a very soothing voice!

The tour guide knew her history and was very educational to listen to. Of every tour guide in London, enjoyed this one most! The bus driver, (Tony ;) friendly and accommodating. Canterbury cathedral is beautiful. The story of the "Watchers" protecting it during the World War, touching. Sites and scenery, lovely. Would recommend bringing snacks or sandwiches, and beverages. You do get to put your toes in the English Channel, but won't be able to touch the Cliffs of Dover. If you want up close might explore boating options or going elsewhere? I really don't have the answer as an outsider visiting. We still enjoyed our day very much! Leeds Castle from Queens to an American prior to given away, was an unexpected twist. As Americans, our group enjoyed that fact. If you are in London a few days and looking to explore and get out of the city, this might be a great option!
