A wonderful day out

KeVoyo was excellent! He was knowledgeable, funny and just a really nice guy. We also had Joshua and Nolan for part of our journey and they were lovely as well. We saw penguins, baboons, ostriches and the most beautiful beaches and landscape. It was a half day tour but more than sufficient to see everything. (Beware the wind blowing the sand at boulder bay)

Started slowly, ended poorly

Pick up at hotel due at 8am was 15mins late, next pick up we waited 15mins for last passenger to turn up. Fully packed mini bus with 12 passengers. First stop was at Chapmans Peak - so windy almost dangerous, then on to boulders Penguin colony - only allowed 20mins by driver. We chose to walk the boardwalk rather than pay for such a short visit. On the plus side, the public restrooms adjacent car park were very clean. On to the Cape of good Hope, driver allowed 40 mins there - did see ostrich and baboons. Rushed trip back to Cape Town - became very clear we wouldn’t make the scheduled time between 1pm - 1.30pm. Then to our surprise the driver stopped in a car park at Muizenberg water slide advising those of us on the half day tour (6 of us) another driver was picking us up to go back to the city while he continued on with the other 6 for the full day tour. It was already 1pm. The other driver was a no show. But for the quick thinking passenger who ordered an Uber and offered to share we would have missed our car pick up for cruise check in. We arrived back at the hotel at 2.10pm. The lady who ordered the Uber had to cancel a 2pm appointment and the other person who shared with us had an evening international flight to catch. The other two chose to stay in Muizenberg before intending to find their own way back. The tour description does warn of the rushed nature of the tour but we had all individually been assured we’d be back by 1.30pm at the latest. While the cape of good hope was worth the trip, the way it ended took all the shine off it. we would not recommend the half day tour especially for anyone with afternoon commitments or onward travel arrangements.

A great tour of must-see destinations & amazing scenery

We had a really great tour with our guide & driver Wellington, who was full of interesting information about the sights on our way, and made sure that we managed to see everything even though the schedule is a bit tight on this half day tour. The Cape Peninsula & the adorable penguins are definitely a must-see for anyone coming to Cape Town, and this tour was a great way to see them - if you have time, a full-day tour would probably be even better!

Highly recommend!

We really enjoyed this half-day tour. Very well organised. No fuss. Good way to visit Cape Peninsula without doing your own driving. The guide/driver was informative.

Dreadful experience

Wish I coul dgive this comnay a rating of zero. Lost 40 minutes at the final hotel pickup point in the morning while the driver/guide argued with two parking inspectors. The debacle was only resolved after the intervention of two police officers. The site descriptions were incoherent and often involved religious metaphors. The driver informed guests a couple of times he was feeling ill. The instructions at different sites regarding meeting places and times were unclear and confusing. The mini-van was jam packed, hot, stuffy and uncomfortable. Despite a sense that we were being rushed everywhere, we got back to Cape Town three hours later than the advertised schedule time and subsequently missed planned visits to other sites. A problem exacerbated by the return driver agreeing to other returning guests requests to drop them to other tourist sites rather than their designated hotel destinations. Pulling the bus over on the side of the road to pay the outbound driver/guide directly for the tour and pay him for entry to sites like the Penguins at Boulder beach made us feel uncomfortable - especially when the driver openly stated that he'd be keeping the change as "part of his tip". Consider using ANY day trip company other than African Eagle. A dreadful experience.

A tour that had everything to work out, but didn't

Very interesting and beautiful tour but our guide was late to go pick us up and so ruined the whole tour, we almost did not stop in the places that said in the brochure, the few places we stopped was always we have very little time 5min and we will leave although we are very late. When we arrived at Cabo da Boa Esperança we got off the car he took a photo and we went to because once again we were “delayed”, we got to the lighthouse we didn’t take advantage of absolutely nothing we had to get off right away because he had another tour. We had to tell him a few times to slow down because he was driving too fast. Not to mention that he spent the whole trip asking us for gorgets. The guide's name is Michael Angelo.

Half Day Cape Peninsula private tour

Did a private half-day Cape Peninsula tour and picked up right on time at the hotel. Our driver, Reginald, was really knowledgeable and gave us lots of information as we were driving throughout the day. We went to Cape Point well before the tour buses and was really quiet so great to take pictures, look around etc. Boulders Beach and the penguins was our second stop and we never felt rushed at all spending around 40 minutes there. Finally we came back through Chapmans Peak Drive and had a number of stops for photos and views at Noordhoek Beach & Hout Bay and we never felt rushed at all. We arrived back at the hotel 30 minutes after our drop off time but no complaints from the driver or mention of being late. Really enjoyed the private tour and would recommend ... ask for Reginald !

Not all guides should be drivers

Unclear how AE manages their staff but there are some tour guides that should not be drivers. Our driver/guide, was surly at best, filled of complaints about other drivers on the road while driving erratically. My travel agent had warned that the tour itself might feel rushed, but I was hopeful. Now, I think I would’ve had a better experience on a hop on hop off bus for the ‘limited’ time (10-15 min) we had at each location. As an example, I only had a 15-min window to walk down to the pier to check out the Penguins, and I never made it to the lighthouse. There were five other patrons and for whatever reason their entry fees were not pre-paid so the driver ended up waiting in the queue, and was very upset about it. The redeeming moment — when our driver handed us off to another driver, Abdul, who so kindly brought us to the ocean to dip our feet.

Do not book this tour company - Terrible!!

We booked this tour through our hotel and what a disappointment it has been...The tour guide arrived an hour late with no explanation and no apology. We were instead told that we would have to push hard to get through the itinerary so we could finish on time - even though we started late due to his late arrival. Majority of the places on the itinerary were not actual stops - we just drove past them, with no real opportunity to even take photos. At some point we were told we had to pay cash for some fees- nothing of this was mentioned beforehand and we could have easily turned up without cash. Spent an hour in the queue to get into Cape Point...which my gut feel tells me we may have avoided if we’d turned up earlier as we were meant to in the first place. Worst and most important of all, we had a driver and tour guide but the tour guide might as well have stayed home - apart from mentioning names of places, he had little else to add. No stories, no anecdotes, nothing. Where he did make comments in a bid to be funny, they were somewhat inappropriate. Overall frustrating and disappointing.

Great chance to see Peninsula in such a short time

We got picked up on time by our guide with 6 other people in total. The Route we took allowed us to see the twelve apostels and the different beaches. On request we did 2 stops to make some photos. We saw ostrichs at the Cape Point and the penguins as described. I could definitely stayed longer at these beautiful places but we didnt had that much time in Capetown and thats why we have chosen the half-day tour which was perfect for us. Thank you!
