The best elephant conservation home we’ve been to. The elephants are well taken care of and all the activities over the 3 hours were phenomenal, one of the most wholesome experiences we’ve been to.

My wife and I booked this as an activity on our honeymoon. We visited the sanctuary in May 2026. Pros: - The facilities are extremely nice. - The onsite staff is awesome and passionate. - The center is a humane elephant sanctuary. Cons: - No power when we visited. - The burning trash smell was dangerous to breathe. - The ride from where we were staying was uncomfortable. If you want to enjoy your outing, follow these tips: - Book your own private transfer. It’s worth the extra money as traffic is very heavy on Koh Samui, and riding in a shared van takes extra time and isn’t comfortable. - Inquire beforehand if the facility has power. - Inquire beforehand if trash will be burned next door during your visit. In full disclosure, we got a Grab to leave early because of the power and burning trash situation. We requested and did not receive a refund.

What an amazing morning. From learning about the teams vision and dedication to the elephants, to the sustainability of their food sources and how they plan that. Then making their food and feeding them was awesome and then watching them enjoy their time in their jungle. Was truly a joy to experience and thank you to the wonderful team that care for these beautiful animals every day. Thank you for my daughter’s wonderful birthday gift as well.

A really enjoyable experience. We learned about the elephants, prepared elephant food and fed them. We also got to spend time with them in the jungle. We were given great food, snacks & drinks. We were also given a video of our visit. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and ensured everyone had a great time. Highly recommended.

Very well orgsnised Tour. Pick up and drop off at hotel. English speaking staff and very well structured day. It's clear the staff care about the elephants and ut was a lovely opportunity learn about the elephants and interact with them. Such an enjoyable day. Staff took care to protect us from the sun, keep us hydrated and provided a light lunch. Highly recommended and great to know money is going to such a worthwhile cause.

This tour was highly unorganized from the start. I arrived at the meeting point 15 minutes early and checked with 3 different vendors holding signs for the elephant sanctuary, but none of them were for our tour. About 10 mins after the scheduled meeting time, a few of us were confused and asking around to figure out which guide we belonged to, but no one seemed to know. One of the other guides even made a phone call for me trying to figure things out. After all the other groups had left, I contacted the company and was told to wait. A man pulled up in a van. He spoke very little English, but based on his clipboard, we realized we were part of his group. He drove us to the sanctuary and we arrived late. Because of the delay, we were asked if we wanted to spend more time with the elephants and skip lunch. Most of us agreed, and someone asked if lunch could be packed to go. The Samui Elephant Home sanctuary itself was very nice, clean, well-maintained, and the staff were incredibly kind and informative. The ladies there did a wonderful job sharing the history of each elephant, and I loved that we were able to see them roaming freely in a more natural, jungle-like environment. The handlers working directly with the elephants seemed somewhat impatient and annoyed with the group and whole process. As we were leaving, I noticed one of them standing next to an elephant smoking a cigarette, which didn’t seem appropriate or healthy for the animals. On a positive note, the staff kindly packed our lunches for us before we left, and the food was delicious. Overall, while the sanctuary itself was a great experience, the lack of organization and coordination from the tour company took away from what could have been a much better day.
Dear Anne, Thank you for your detailed feedback. We’re sorry for the confusion at the meeting point. As you were traveling by cruise ship and docking in Koh Samui, there were many groups arriving at the same time, so the meeting area can be quite busy and crowded — this is normal on cruise days. Arriving 15 minutes early is great, and as mentioned in our information, pickup is within a time frame. Our driver met you within that scheduled window, so it was not considered late. We had also already informed this timing clearly before the tour started. Regarding lunch, our regular program does include time to eat. However, as your group needed to return to the cruise pier earlier than standard tours due to cruise schedule restrictions, we offered the option to spend more time with the elephants instead. This arrangement was also explained in advance. We truly appreciate your feedback and kindly ask for your understanding that cruise tours follow a slightly different timing. The sanctuary is lovely and the tour is overall well structured. A few thing to mention though: the whole tour from the moment you get picked up till you are dropped off is 5h, not 3. If you are staying in the north of Koh Samui, you are 1h away from the sanctuary. The pick up car was an open truck (no AC, you are in the heat for 1h straight)- it’s exhausting, especially during the heat peak (you get picked up at 1pm).

Travel times on Koh Samui can vary depending on location and traffic conditions, and guests staying in the north may have a longer journey. Our type of transport depends on the pick-up locations scheduled for that day. In many cases, we need to collect guests staying at hillside villas, so a 4×4 vehicle is required to access those areas safely. We had such a great time with the elephants! They were incredibly sweet and gentle. We got to prepare food for them, feed them plenty, and even help bathe them, which was such a special experience. It was amazing to see them roaming freely in a large, open space. We also appreciated seeing the many certifications they have showing their commitment to proper elephant care. It’s inspiring that they hope to build an elephant hospital in the future once they have enough funding. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone visiting the island. Thank you for such a memorable experience—we’ll never forget it!
