Excursion en vélo électrique au Jodogahama Beach&Jomon Museum–Miyako, Tohoku Japon

We were met by our amazing guide, Shu, (I may be mis-spelling that) who had just started this tour and we were his first guests. He is a lovely man who told us he is running for political office in his town and one of his focuses is promoting tourism. He met us at the center of town and was easy to find, was a great guide who gave us historical background of what we were seeing, and led us to really beautiful spots in this part of Japan on a well-kept e-bike. The ride was lovely, and as the drivers in Japan are very respectful of cyclists and generally drive very slowly and carefully, we felt very comfortable biking a fairly long distance by road. At the museum we had a small welcoming committee of a local, her mother and her son, who were very excited to practice their English on us. Lovely people who made us feel very welcome. The museum is new and beautifully laid out and interesting. Shu provided information to give us perspective on what we were seeing, as he had done the English translation on the exhibits.. All in all it was a wonderful experience as it's always meaningful to interact with locals and see a slice of their lives. The beach was one of the most photogenic natural sites we saw on our vacation. I would say that if you are not comfortable on a bike, this would not be a tour for you even though it is an e-bike, as the distance travelled is fairly long and has rolling hills. If you're like me and want more than just a quick ride, then you will enjoy it.
