Les Latins mentionnent sans équivoque que Biturica, l'ancienne vigne illyrienne, était la mère de la famille des cépages Carmenet (comprenant Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, etc.), et peut-être que Biturica minori (cépage Gamay) est originaire de Durrës ( Albanie). Lorsque les Romains ont pris le relais en 168 avant JC, la région a été divisée en différentes provinces et le vin produit dans la région a définitivement été célébré pour sa saveur unique. La vinification locale s'est poursuivie jusqu'au début de la domination ottomane à la fin du XVe siècle. Dès lors, ce fut un très long chemin vers l'indépendance de l'Albanie. Et comme ce fut le cas dans d'autres pays islamiques, la production de vin a chuté de façon drastique en raison des restrictions alimentaires de la foi. De 1944 à 1992, l'Albanie était sous régime socialiste. À cette époque, presque toutes les caves et plantations se consacraient à la production de vin destiné à l'exportation. En 1990, l'Albanie avait une superficie viticole d'environ 18 000 à 20 000 hectares.

Excellent day touring the countryside outside of Durres. The winery is absolutely lovely! We very much enjoyed learning about the region’s history and the local varietals. Highly recommend!

This is really a must if you are in Albania. Full of enthusiasm we were picked up by our Guide Mario. Mario knows how to tell passionately about his land and the vineyards. You get a tour of the beautiful landscape full of surprises. In addition enjoyed delicious wines and food.

The walk through the vineyards, then a detailed tour of the bunkers/ distillery was very educational & interesting. The location & setting is so picturesque, beautiful. There was a good selection of wine & food provided for tasting & pairing. Be careful of the Raki, i kid you not. The guides were very good, polite, friendly & informative, they definitely want you to have the best experience.

Degustation at Abaia winery. The visit was really enjoyable ! Our guide Erisa was lovely, and kind and really clear in her explanation. The wines were delicious, I enjoyed a lot my visit ! Plus, our driver, Mario was really kind and told us a lot about albanian history ! I recommend this experience !

Today was a fun experience with charmimg Alexandra, who helped us, introduced us to local customs, shared her knowledge, time with us, ín a perfect vibe, bringing people with different cultural backgrounds together. We arra now singing along, ín a minubus, going home, with a feeling of joy, brotherhood/sisterhood and a night of connecting.
Best wine tour in Albania. We got picked up by Mario and got welcomed the best way possible. Mario told us about the Albanian history, the history behind the wine brewery and how Rakia is made and the difference between Rakia from different parts from Albania Either if you are from here or not i would recommend this experience to everyone. 11/10
