Dublin Sweet Treats Food Tour : Beignets, churros, histoire, et plus encore

Description

Jody was a wealth of knowledge both of Dublin and the donut shops themself, he made our group excited for each stop and to explore more of Dublin. His wit and humour made us feel immediately welcome and he was happy and willing to answer our question and discuss a variety of topics. Would be glad to have him as our guide again.

A great tour! I wasn't completely sure what I was signing on for, I just saw "donut" and clicked yes, but honestly it is pretty clever. The tour is not really about donuts at all, the donuts are just there to fuel the hard walking, of which there is considerable amount in the two hours. Our guide Aaron started us at the Rolling Donut, and gave a brief history of its founder and the chain's culinary style, but we'd gulped down our choices from then forward the tour was 90% about the history of Ireland and Dublin. There was witty banter, amusing anecdotes, and a blended mixture of topics ranging from political history to Bono gossip that I think anyone vaguely interested in Dublin history would be entertained. (The bored kids on the tour were definitely not, but the grown-ups were engaged.) Some advice: 1. The ticket price includes a donut at each of 4 stops - so even those who aren't great at math can guess how many donuts you'll be consuming. So, J/C, do NOT eat a full breakfast before this tour starts. You wouldn't think this needs to be pointed out, but apparently it does. 2. Unlike many food tours, this one does actually entail eating a full serving at each stop, not just little sample bites. Also unlike many food tours, you can choose from the full menu to get anything you want. My husband and I were unanimous that the Dubliner at the Rolling Donut (chocolate topped with vanilla custard filling, except they don't call it a Boston Cream when it's in Dublin), was our favorite. 3. The tour price does include one beverage for the whole morning, so don't buy your own coffee beforehand if you think you'll be wanting one. 4. $70 is a pretty expensive way to buy 4 donuts, yes. The ticket price is really for the tour and the guide's stories. So, seriously, don't buy this for your whole family if you don't think your kids will be interested, just take them to the Rolling Donut for breakfast instead.
Thank you for joining us in Dublin! Erin says 👋 We love that you clicked yes for donuts and ended up fueled by sweets, stories, witty banter, and a whole lot of Irish history. You nailed the advice too: come hungry and come ready for the guide’s stories, because that’s where the real magic is. We hope to host you again in Dublin or any of our donut holes around the world!

My family was running late and Jody was fabulous in making sure we were able to catch up to the group and the info we missed. Very informative on Dublin history (major and little known facts), answered all questions, great recommendations, and super helpful! Donuts were awesome but Jody was the icing on top! Thanks again!!
