Very informative especially if you have Irish heritage . Have been there twice and learned each time . Will go back again in the future .

Very Interesting — But I Wanted the Continuity of an Immigrant's Story I enjoyed EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and thought it was very well presented, but it was not quite what I expected — or hoped — it would be. What I most wanted to see was the continuity of an immigrant's story: the complete footprint of an actual person or family who emigrated from Ireland. Where and how did they live in Ireland? Why did they decide to leave? If they left by ship, how did such desperately poor people find the money for passage? How did they get themselves and their belongings to the port? What did they take? How did they choose their destination? What was the voyage like? Where did they arrive? And then — perhaps most interesting to me — what happened next? How did they find somewhere to live? How did they find work? How were they treated as Irish immigrants? Did their children attend school? How did the family gradually establish itself in its new country? I wanted to be able to follow actual people from beginning to end. Instead, we saw several short animated stories of fictitious people describing how difficult life was and why they decided to leave Ireland for a particular destination. But the stories seemed to stop just when I wanted them to continue. They decided to go to America, Australia, Canada, etc. — but HOW did they get there, and what happened to them once they arrived? It occurred to me that EPIC seems to have the perfect opportunity to fill in those missing chapters. Genealogists there research actual family histories, so presumably the museum has access to the kinds of details that show how real emigrant families' lives unfolded. Understandably, personal information uncovered for an individual visitor may not be something the museum can or should use. But those histories could surely inspire anonymous or composite stories — changing names and identifying details — and be used to give the animated characters complete, historically grounded lives. Follow one family from a cottage in Ireland, onto a ship, into a tenement or small home in their new country, through their first jobs, their children's schooling and eventually into the next generation. That continuity would have brought the whole emigration experience to life for me. There were also exhibits featuring present-day people with Irish “roots,” particularly well-known people, but again I often found myself wondering: Who in that person's family actually left Ireland? When did they leave? Where did they go? What happened to that first generation after they arrived? How did that family's story eventually lead to the person we recognize today? I had a similar reaction when we visited the nearby Jeanie Johnston famine ship. We learned about a baby who was actually born aboard the ship and named after it, and we were shown a photograph of him, years later, as an adult and owner of a pub in New York. Fascinating! But that immediately made me want to know the rest of his story. How did the child born aboard an emigrant ship eventually become a business owner? THAT is the kind of personal, beginning-to-end story I would have loved EPIC to explore in depth. There is certainly a great deal to see, and the museum does an excellent job showing the enormous influence of Irish emigrants and their descendants around the world. It is modern, interactive, and visually impressive. I simply came away wishing that alongside the broad story of Irish emigration, it had followed several people or families all the way from their lives in Ireland, through the journey, and into the lives they built afterward. Still very much worth visiting — but for me, adding the continuity of an immigrant's story would have made a very good museum a truly memorable one.

The museum presents the history of the Irish people in a lighthearted and interactive way. It is worth a visit.

Loved this place! The "passport" idea is great and helps to make sure all areas of Irish culture and history are explored. Highly recommend as a first stop and/ or a wrap-up just before leaving for those visiting Ireland or Dublin.

Amazing museum experience. Fabulous interactive tour clearly signed with accessible information in many formats. Helpful staff, displays for all ages, reasonable price for the quality of the experience.

i learned a lot here! i liked the setup of the museum, as it was a linear experience so there was no indecisiveness over where to go first. the exhibits were interactive and interesting. the space is not too large, so i would recommend going in the morning if possible because i assume it can get crowded later on. worth the money imo

I especially loved hearing individual people's stores throughout the centuries. it does take about 1.5 hours just to walk through and see everything so be sure to leave enough time because it is worth every minute!

My husband and I visited yesterday and had a mostly pleasant experience. The museum was very interesting and had a lot of cool information, and every employee we got to interact with were very nice and helpful. I will say, it does tend to get a little cramped, so plan to arrive early in the day, and there were a couple of rude tourists there that soured our experience a little bit (but that has nothing to do with the museum itself!), but otherwise we had a wonderful time! Plan to spend around 2 hours or so reading everything as a majority of the museum is spent going around each room and reading prompts, as well as stamping your “passport”. Overall it was worth the price and a nice visit :)

Disappointed and boring. Do not waste your time or money. There were 20 rooms/displays, and you move from one area to the next using a stamp passport system that encourages visitors to go through each section. Each room had videos playing on both sides, with chairs available for visitors to sit and watch. However, some of the interactive displays were positioned in front of the screens, blocking the view and making it difficult to watch the videos comfortably.

Great experience. Very interactive. Worth to go with a family especially if you are interested in Irish emigration.
