Great experience. My wife and I booked with Denali Backcountry Guides because we wanted a “Guided Hike” with a knowledgeable and experienced guide who really knows the Denali area. First, the communication and instructions from this company were excellent. Our guide, Andy, picked us up promptly and as scheduled. We had a very small group hike with only one other couple. He took us on a fairly remote hike to a place called Slime Canyon. In spite of its horrible name, this was a pristine and beautiful place. We hiked 6.86 miles with an elevation gain of 1308 feet. This hike started along a dirt road and continued along a “hiking easement” and up a mountain to the canyon. Our guide pointed out many types of plants that we encounted. We even ate blueberries and other berries that grow wild along our path. As we hiked up the canyon, we saw Dall sheep up on a ridge line. This hike was unique as the trail was very primitive and we had to hike through chest high vegetation. We ate our lunch/snacks leaning on boulders in a “magical” canyon. Overall, I highly recommend our guide, Andy, and this excellent company. They provided us with a safe and memorable experience; one that we will always remember.
This was one of the highlights of our Alaska trip. Hiking in Denali with our naturalist guide, Eric, and it exceeded every expectation. Eric is incredibly knowledgeable about the park’s wildlife, plants, geology, and history. He shared fascinating information throughout the hike while keeping the experience fun, and tailored to our group’s pace. His passion for Denali is contagious, and you can tell he truly loves what he does. The scenery was breathtaking, and hiking off the beaten path gave us an appreciation for Denali that we never would have experienced on our own. If you’re considering a guided hike in Denali, don’t hesitate to book with Eric. It was worth every penny and is an experience we’ll remember for years. Highly recommend!
Andy was the best!! So knowledgeable and experienced. I didn’t think I would learn so much on this trip. We had lots of fun!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our 7 mile hike with Eric on the Triple Lakes Trail in Denali National Park. His genuine enthusiasm for and knowledge of the local flora and fauna added tremendously to our experience. Highly recommend.
The day went magnificently. The group was intimate and Andy, the guide, was welcoming and nice. It was exciting to discover animal tracks and enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view. The walk requires a certain amount of training and endurance (it is about 8 kilometers and an elevation gain of 800 meters); however, it helps you sleep well! I highly recommend it!
The hike we did with Xavier is probably the key highlight for us from our stay in Denali. We wanted to take a more challenging path and he adapted it well to our skill level and the difficulty of the terrain due to the recent rain. We learned so much about the trees, plants and wild life as we hiked. Xavier had a special surprise for us by offering us hot cocoa on a cold day on top of the ridge. Thank you so much for this most memorable experience.
Excellent! You guys have an absolute GEM in Eric. What a tremendous guide, incredibly knowledgeable, personable, funny and obviously loves what he’s doing. Take care of this one!!!!
We did a guided hike with Alex. It was a small group which allowed us to be very flexible with our hiking route and pace. The hike itself was beautiful with great views from the mountaintop. Alex was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and taught us so much about the wildlife. Not only did he educate us about the surroundings on our hike, he was gave us context about the greater park and Alaska habitats and community, as well as good recommendations for other hikes and things to do. It felt like we toured with a true local. We loved our experience hiking with him as our introduction to Denali.
Eric was our guide on this five hour hike and nature walk. He tailored the hike to our ability level. We summitted two peaks and had phenomenal views of the entire Denali basin. It was absolutely breathtaking. R Along the way he stopped and explained the plants, flowers, and animal trackings that we saw. He was very attentive to our safety and explained what the plan was in the event of a moose or bear sighting. He carried all the safety equipment, snacks, poles and first aid kit so that we could enjoy our time. I would highly recommend him. We were so appreciative and impressed with our hike.
Eric was an outstanding guide for our wilderness hike in Denali National Park. On a spectacular June day, we summited a mountain, endured a short but incredibly fun hailstorm, and were rewarded with some truly epic and breathtaking views. Every moment felt like an adventure. Eric was exceptionally prepared, bringing extra food and water and even taking the time to apply moleskin to my girlfriend’s heel when she started having discomfort. His knowledge as a naturalist and his accomplishment of completing the Appalachian Trail were evident throughout the hike—he really knows his stuff. Beyond his expertise, Eric is an interesting, personable, and genuinely exceptional guy. This tour was worth every dollar and then some. If you’re looking for an unforgettable experience in Denali with a guide who is knowledgeable, prepared, and passionate about the outdoors, I highly recommend Eric.
