Our experience with Mr. Ross in Napier, New Zealand was nothing short of exceptional. From the very beginning, he went above and beyond to ensure our family had a truly memorable visit. Due to an unfortunate technical misunderstanding with the original tour operator, our tour was expected to be cancelled because Mr. Ross’s regular tour van was in service. However, when we contacted him directly, he graciously stepped in without hesitation, understanding that this was our only available day before leaving Napier. What followed was not simply a tour, but a deeply personal and unforgettable experience. Mr. Ross personally picked us up in his private luxury vehicle and treated us more like family guests than tourists. His warmth, professionalism, and genuine care immediately set the tone for an extraordinary day. One of the highlights was visiting his beautiful private garden, perched gracefully on a hillside overlooking the Port of Napier. The views were absolutely breathtaking, and his incredible knowledge of the region brought every stop along the journey to life. When we mentioned that wine tasting was not particularly our preference, Mr. Ross instantly adapted the experience with thoughtful enthusiasm. “No problem,” he said, “I have something special for you as well.” He then took us to a serene and picturesque location surrounded by vineyards, where we enjoyed fine local cheeses, fresh fruits, refreshing drinks, and — to the delight of my wife and child — delicious ice cream. The atmosphere was peaceful, elegant, and wonderfully authentic. The crown jewel of the day was undoubtedly our visit to Te Mata Peak. The panoramic views were absolutely spectacular and created some truly unforgettable family moments and photographs. The scenic drive back through charming small towns and countryside completed what can only be described as a perfect day. Mr. Ross is not merely a tour guide — he is a gracious host, a gentleman, and someone who takes immense pride in sharing the beauty and spirit of Napier with his guests. We cannot recommend him highly enough to anyone visiting the region.
Oh my goodness Hary, what can I say after reading your wonderful review, actually brought tears to my eyes. That said you and your family were warm and elegant guests ever so easy to host. Thanks again for the wonderful review, cheers Ross
Great tour and with a last minutes port change and our other tour canceled we loved to get this experience, thanks Ross
Thanks for the great review, sure was a last minute booking but it all worked out ok. I do hope the Anthem was able to get into Wellington. Cheers Ross
Ross our guide was so informative. The wine stop was perfect. Lots of tastings & generous cheese & crackers. Te mata park overlook was spectacular. We were blessed with perfect weather. Highly recommend!
Ross was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Tour was great and the wine tasting was excellent. Lovely day out.
Hi there, thank you for the great review, our shore excursion has received many great reviews this season so will be running the same program next. Cheers Ross
Ross was an amazing host full of local knowledge. He will absolutely guarantee to fit any cruise schedule. The views were spectacular and the wine tasting experience superb. Lovely air conditioned minibus hosting no more than 14. Excellent value and highly recommended.
Hi Tracey, thank you for the great review I dont think I could have written better myself. I am really happy with the program we are running this season as we are able to fit in a lot of in interesting stops without rushing our guests and of course always get back with time to spare
The host changed our time and told them we couldn't make that time and would like a refund. They said no twice. I do not understand we paid for a earlier time and they changed the time on us and then we could not do that. How can they refuse to give our money back?
Hi Cindy, I was disappointed to read your review. I am not unreliable read all the other reviews Your meeting instructions on your ticket read : Your Excursion will depart about 30 minutes after disembarking begins " I sent you a reconfirmation text which stated. " Your excursion will depart about 30 minutes after disembarking begins " Then you contacted me again requesting more departure times . My reply was misunderstood and you did not request calcification or cancel the excursion but simply did not arrive at the meeting point. This disadvantaged the other 21 passengers on this tour as I delayed tour departure in the hope that you would arrive at the meeting point. To further complicate matters Napier had more than 8,000 Cruise passengers in the city plus 30,000 Art Deco visitors. Under the circumstances I would be comfortable with Viator providing you with a 50 % refund.
Excellent guide! John gave a great overview of the city. Loved all of his insight and he was extremely informative. The wine tour was great too.
Hi Julie, thank you so much for your review, when you are a team of just 2 it is really really good to get feedback like yours. This is Johns first season with me so I do hope we can continue to work together for years to come
This was an amazing tour. Ross went out of his way to pack as much into our day as he could. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history, especially of Napier but generally too, current events and general information about NZ. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone. Great value for your money
Hi Gail, wonderful feedback, thank you so much, I know people read reviews so thank you again
Excellent guide, took us to his home to see his beautiful gardens, drove to top of TeMata Peak for fantastic views with time to look around, and a nice tour of Napier with stops to view sights. At the wine tasting, which was a beautiful, private owned vineyard, our guide provided us with the cheese and crackers. EXCELLENT TOUR & GUIDE. I highly recommend this.
