I really enjoyed this tour and would recommend it. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and put a lot of effort into making sure we had a good day
This is the worst experience we had. We had booked for the From Bratislava: Nitra, Stiavnica, Bystrica & Spania Dolina Tour. The day before we were told that this tour was cancelled and we're given - "fantastic alternative: a full-day experience to Čičmany, Bojnice Castle, and the High Tatras". (The price of this tour is less). We did not have an alternative, so we agreed. The driver arrived right on time on 17 Nov at 7:15 am. After some time he said he was that the Bojnice Castle was closed. After 3 hrs+ driving he took us to the Orava Castle, which was okay, not great or fantastic. Then he told that Čičmany was closed (I wonder how a village can be closed) so alternatively he will take us to a cave. After driving for an hour plus, he said the caves were closed. Then he said he could not take us to the High Tatras or to the lakes for some reason or the other. So we went nowhere. We landed in Bankska Bystrica at about 2:00pm. He gave us 45 mins to grab some food and we would then visit Nitra. 10 mins later he messages to say Nitra Churches close at 4:00 pm, so it was not possible to reach there on time. We spent 1.5 hrs in a coffee shop there, had dinner in Banska Staiavnica (it was already dark, so no sightseeing). And then back from where we started. WE SAW NOTHING. The whole day was wasted. I definitely would like to get a REFUND. I have been booking Viator Tours since 2016. And this is my worst experience.
Roman was an excellent guide and a great friend who helped make the most of the day. I cannot recommend him enough. However with regards to the tour operator, I heard from other tourists that they were rebooked on to this tour and rescheduled off weekdays. Allegedly they were all told their drivers were in car accidents and very ill. If true, I wish them all the best with their recoveries.
BEWARE of this operator. Booked this tour and was collected late. About half an hour into the journey we past Nitra without stopping and it became clear that I had been transferred to an entirely different tour to the Tatras. Several others had had their original tours cancelled and offered this alternative but I was not told. Stuck on a tedious 14 hour drive that I didnt want, to a location I was booked to travel to the next day already. Tour was chaos. Not enough time to do the itinerary, caves hadnt been booked and were full and we arrived at the Tatras 10 mins before sunset to take a photo of a small lake before hours driving back. It was just a very very long drive day to see very little. Driver was way too fast and nearly crashed and he was generally all over the place. Really disappointed. Have requested a full refund as it wasnt the tour i booked. Had been on a tour on Monday with the same provider to see 3 castles and a cave - however, all are always closed on a Monday!!! So accessed nothing. Guide kept pretending they were shut unexpectedly for renovations or heavy rains etc but intenet shows they are always closed. Beware ! When complained to Viator they just said to contact the operator.
The description on the 'what to expect' is very different from our tour. It mentioned guided tours, but that didn't happen. Our driver Jan just dropped us off at the locations and gave directions where to go. He did tell things during transfer, but on the highway it was difficult to hear from the back. I'm sure he knows a lot about the history and the locations, but he wasn't great at conveying the information. It was a shame the weather was bad, we didn't get to see a nice sunset at Spania Dolina because of the fog, but we also didn't get to look around the fairytale mountain village. There was plenty of time at all the stops and it was all pretty flexible. We could take a break during transfer if we needed. We were with a small group of 6 which was very nice. We were picked up at 7.15 and we returned at 19.15.
Our tour guide Maria was great! It was a very long day seeing a lot of sights. It is a lot of time in the car. The castle tour was our favorite. Just so you know, the castle tickets and lunch are not part of the price.
This was a great tour, you get to see so many different places in one day - our tour guide, Maria, was fantastic and made the whole day a lot of fun. I will say there are a few hills so if you have trouble hiking I would be aware - so worth it though for the incredible views. I would definitely recommend
We traveled in a 7-passenger van, and it was full of 7 passengers, all were delightful which really helped make the trip worthwhile. Unfortunately, there was no speaker system or any headphones / earbuds, so we could not hear any commentary as we were in the very back seat. The stops were okay, some lovelier than others. We went to an old mining site and then walked up a very steep hill and it was getting dark. I felt it was unsafe due to unsteady / uneven footing. We are in our late 60's and although we are fit enough, I worried about my steps. We were very lucky in that Spania Dolina and Nitra had wonderful celebrations going on, which made it fascinating. Unfortunately, there were times when our guide / driver drove a bit too fast for our comfort but he did slow down when we asked. Our guide talked about his opinions quite a bit, even in the world of politics of our nations which really should not happen. We paid a lot of money for this experience and it really was so disappointing.
Georges our driver was very friendly and flexible He gave enough information about the places visited and life in Slovakia Small group of 7 very friendly Lunch together at the restaurant of local specialities for 12 euros 3 admissions for 7 euros in all to plan I recommend this beautiful tour of discovery! Departure 8am return 10pm
Great trip, Maria was a great tour guide! Be prepared for a long trip but you get to see a lot of scenery.
