Le monastère de Voronet a été construit en 1488 en un temps record: trois mois, trois semaines et trois jours, il fait aujourd'hui partie du patrimoine de l'UNESCO. Les peintures murales extérieures ont conservé leurs teintes malgré des siècles de mauvais temps, mais les ingrédients utilisés pour préparer les peintures restent un mystère. Les scènes des peintures murales dépeignent, comme un film, l’histoire du christianisme, présentée de manière originale, très influencée par les croyances populaires, par la culture orientale, mais aussi par la pensée orthodoxe.
Le monastère de Moldovita, inscrit au patrimoine de l'UNESCO en 1993, a été construit entre 1532 et 1537. Pendant des siècles, les peintures murales ont été le seul moyen de faire connaître aux habitants de la campagne les enseignements de la Bible. Les fresques sont une immense illustration en couleur de scènes bibliques, adaptées à l'histoire du lieu et aux moments importants de la vie de la communauté.
Le monastère de Sucevita, le plus récent des monastères peints de Bucovine, a été inscrit au patrimoine de l'UNESCO en 1993. Il a été construit dans un style moldave, avec des influences gothiques et byzantines. Les peintures murales sont dominées par une nuance de vert, obtenue par une technique ancienne à partir de pigments naturels.

Excellent guide Customized program

We had an absolutely amazing experience on the day trip from Iași to the Painted Monasteries in Bucovina, and a huge part of that was thanks to our guide, Leo. From the very beginning, Leo was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. He shared fascinating historical and cultural insights at every stop, making each monastery come alive in a way that you simply wouldn’t get on your own. His passion for the region was truly contagious. The trip was perfectly organized, relaxed, and enjoyable throughout. The places themselves are superb, steeped in history, spirituality and striking architectural beauty. But what really made this tour exceptional was our guide. One of the main reasons we went to Iasi, was to do the Rolandia tour company's Moldova tour, but since we were in this area, we signed up for this tour as well. Leo (Leonard) was our guide, and again he was fantastic. This trip was a lot of driving, but it was really interesting seeing the Romanian countryside and small villages as we whizzed by. Seeing the Stork nests on the street posts throughout the drive was also a pleasant surprise. The three monasteries that we visited were well worth the trip. My favorite was the first stop, but they were all interesting. Leo told us a lot about each of them and made sure we understood as much as possible about each of the monasteries and their artwork. We also stopped at a high point with a neat wooden swing overlooking the countryside, and for lunch in a nice restaurant. We did this trip the day after the Moldova trip- again, two long days, but a very perfect way to see this part of the world.

The experience in the monasteries was unforgettable. The guide was excellent. He described in detail the meaning and value of the frescoes painted outside and inside the monasteries. I recommend this tour with a closed eye.
