I have been to Kakadu before, but a long time ago. I had good memories, so wanted to visit again, mainly to do the Yellow Water cruise. AAT were the only ones offering this, so I booked their tour. I also liked the fact that their tour did not include Ubirr, as I did not want to scramble over rocks in the oppressive heat. Nourlangie was enough. However, what the tour boiled down to was a lot of sitting. On the bus, at lunch, and on the boat. While the seat on the coach was comfortable to start with, the last three non-stop hours from Jabiru back to Darwin were pure torture. Apart from Nourlangie Rock you will basically only do the cruise and visit a cultural centre. I opted for a scenic flight from Cooinda to Jabiru instead and would recommend it for variety’s sake. The cruise was great, and the lunch delicious, but that is not enough to recommend to do Kakadu in a day. My idea would be a transfer option to Cooinda, so that you could spend the night there and do a dusk and dawn cruise and then return to Darwin the next day. I found the day tour so exhausting that I cancelled my Katherine Gorge trip, as it would have been a similarly unsatisfactory experience.
It's a very long trip and you probably spend as much time on the coach as off, so the tour company need to update their tech to make it less boring. Instead of just showing screens with the road ahead, show a map of the route with information about each place. The driver was very knowledgeable and engaging with his commentary, but again the tech in the coach needs updating. We also found the rock art site and cultural centre underwhelming. The lunch too was not even ready when we got there and rather limited in quality and quantity. We did, however, enjoy the river cruise. The ' captain' was quirky yet very knowledgeable. This redeemed the trip for us. There was too little time at the Cultural Centre and way too much time waiting for a driver change at the Crocodile Resort, ten minutes turned into thirty waiting on a hot coach to then take a further three hours to get back to Darwin. At $ 1000 per couple, the thirteen hour day was too long, too much money and sooo inderwhelming.

It's a long day. Lots of sitting. On the bus, at lunch, on the boat. And on the plane should you take this option. The last three hours between Jabiru and Darwin were torture. While the seats were comfortable at the start, they became less so at the end. But if you want to see some (and it's not much) of Kakadu in a day you don't have many options. Guide and driver were good. It's the itinerary that's the problem.

Amazing tour. Bus driver was so helpful and very knowledgeable. Lunch was lovely. Cruise was very thing I was expecting, saw Jabirus and crocodiles in the first 10 minutes. The ranger was very funny and very helpful answering any questions. We even got to do a airplane flight over Kakadu, a extra expensive that is very worth the money. A very long day but worth every minute.
Dear Leanne, Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! We’re delighted to hear you had such an amazing experience on your Kakadu tour. It’s great to know the bus driver’s knowledge and support helped make the day enjoyable, and that you appreciated the lunch and overall organisation. We’re especially pleased that you were able to see jabirus and crocodiles so early on the cruise, and that the ranger made the experience fun and informative while answering your questions. The scenic flight over Kakadu is indeed a special add-on, and we’re glad you felt it was worth it and added to your adventure. It sounds like you had a very full and memorable day, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. We hope to welcome you again on another adventure in the future! Kind Regards, AAT Kings team.
The Tour was super in every respect. From our coach driver and guide Ajay, to our lunchtime boat cruise, to our walk to see the rock art. AJ was very knowledgeable and had a good mix of information and silences as well, so we weren’t over burdened with too much information. The included lunch was brilliant as well as was our boat guide Dennis. (Who was hilarious and very knowledgeable about his culture). Although the Tour went for 13 1/2 hours, it was not a long 13 1/2 hours. I highly recommend people to do this tour and experience the beauty of Kakadu and the indigenous history.
Our driver was very knowledgeable and friendly. I had a fantastic day. I loved the forest and landscape. The river cruise was lovely

This was along but great day out. We we're staying in Darwin after our tour of the Red Centre, so decided on a day trip to Kakadu. Our tour guide, Libby arrived at our hotel to pick us up in a full sized bus even though there were only 15 of us. It was a 13.5 hr day but the bus was comfortable and Libby made sure that we had regular toilet/ food stops all day. We really enjoyed our day and especially the river boat cruise. Libby was bright and cheery all day and only too happy to help with anything. Would definitely recommend this day trip even though it's a big day.
Scintillating. Exceeded expectations. Libby informative and friendly guide Coach very comfortable. Boat excursion on the yellow river awesome with diggings of multiple crocodiles flora and fauna. Magical scenery.
Fantastic all day tour with our very knowledgeable and likeable driver Anthony. Fascinating insight into aboriginal culture and the NT landscapes and wildlife. KAKADU Yellow Water cruise was the highlight for us. What a gorgeous place. We saw a large array of beautiful birds and some impressive saltwater crocodiles and buffalo. Great lunch provided on route too. It was a long 14 hour day but totally worth it in a nice air conditioned coach. Highly recommended.
Hi Komfort, Thanks so much for the lovely review! We're really glad you had such a great day out, and we'll be sure to pass your kind words on to Anthony — he'll love hearing that. The Yellow Water Cruise is definitely a highlight, and it sounds like you saw some amazing wildlife out there! We're also happy to hear the coach and lunch helped make the long day a comfortable one. Thanks again for joining us — hope to see you on another adventure soon!
it was a long day but very enjoyable and the drivers and coach very comfortable. Love the boat sections as well and seeing crocodiles.
