The Vagabond Australia Day dinner and fireworks cruise was amazing. We ate a sumptuous dinner as we floated between the opera house and the harbour bridge. The food was delicious and plentiful. Most even went back for seconds on the seafood oysters and prawns. Then drink in hand we strolled out to the decks to watch the amazing fireworks and drone show accompanied by Australian (and some NZ) music. 3 hours of great service and entertainment. A wonderful experience for all ages.
Hi there, Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed the dinner, the service and the atmosphere on board, and that the fireworks and drone show made it such a memorable Australia Day experience. It’s great to hear the food and entertainment were a highlight, and we really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. We hope to welcome you back on board again in the future. Kind regards, Vagabond Cruises
It was our first family experience dinner cruise ship . And it was great. We enjoyed the trip and the food while waiting for the fireworks.
Hi Sharon, Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re so pleased to hear your first family dinner cruise was a great one and that you enjoyed both the food and the fireworks. We really appreciate you choosing to celebrate Australia Day with us and hope to welcome you and your family back on board again in the future. Kind regards, Vagabond Cruises
Very disappointed with Vagabond Cruises. We info them ahead of food allergies for a child and they totally ignored our request in advance for special meal! The supervisor on board was very dismissive and not very nice. So, be cat if you or your children have food allergies!
Hi David, We’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your experience. We do take food allergies seriously and always aim to accommodate dietary requirements where reasonably possible. On our standard dinner cruises, this is typically done by clearly identifying allergens across our buffet selection, which includes a range of nut-free options. Where guests have more complex or highly restrictive dietary requirements, individual meals can sometimes be arranged in advance when necessary. On this occasion, suitable options were already available from the buffet, and our crew was available to assist with identifying these. We regret that this did not meet your expectations and appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback. Kind regards, Vagabond Cruises
I do not recommend this cruise and strongly advise others not to waste their money. Our New Year’s Eve fireworks cruise with Vagabond Cruises was very disappointing due to the captain’s lack of experience. It was surprising that an inexperienced captain was assigned to such an important night. The boat was positioned far from the Harbour Bridge and was still moving just minutes before midnight. In the final moments, it stopped behind a much larger vessel that completely blocked the fireworks. When we finally had some visibility, the boat moved again, blocking the view for guests on the second level. Paying AUD 3,200 for four people and missing the main event of the night is unacceptable. The food and staff were good, but the captain’s poor decisions ruined the entire experience.
Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand how important the New Year’s Eve fireworks experience is, and we’re sorry that the midnight viewing did not meet your expectations. We’ve reviewed the concerns raised and have responded directly where possible. While we won’t be discussing individual circumstances in a public forum, we remain open to further correspondence via email. Kind regards, Vagabond Cruises
New Year 2025 harbour cruise with my fiance. We live in Cairns and came to spend NY to Sydney. Harbour cruise was our one of the best experiences so far. Friendly crew, good buffet food, drinks, atmosphere relaxed. Great view to fireworks. I highly recommend.
Hi there! (sorry we can't see your name) Thank you so much for your lovely review — and apologies for the delayed response! We’re absolutely thrilled to hear your New Year’s Eve cruise was one of the highlights of your Sydney trip. It means a lot to know the crew, food, and atmosphere made the night special for you and your fiancé — and that the fireworks delivered! Thanks again for the recommendation, and we’d love to welcome you back on board next time you're in town. Warm regards, Michel & the Vagabond Team
Witnessed a very un- Australian sight today. We were waiting for our tall ship to arrive. Meanwhile, Vagabond Cruises were boarding...took them a while! They started to pull the ropes to leave the dock and we noticed a young man with cerebral palsy making his way as fast as he could to the boat. All us folks shouted for the boat to wait for him, but, did they? Nope. Shame on you Vagabond Cruises....but, you know what, the skipper of Soren Larsen let him( Michael) on board....and, I’m sure he had a better time than he would have on Vagabond Cruises. Have I mentioned Vagabond Cruises enough???
Hi and thank you for your input. Whilst we appreciate you looking out for a young man with cerebral palsy, it seems you are terribly misinformed regarding the specifics of this unfortunate event. The young man mentioned in your review was indeed booked on our lunch cruise and was unfortunately not at the designated boarding location on time for departure. Our crew attempted calling the man’s mobile phone on multiple occasions, however as there was no answer, we proceeded to vacate the wharf at the end of our allotted time stipulated by RMS NSW. Upon departing, our crew noticed a young man waiting at the wharf and tried calling again to arrange pick-up. Despite no answer, our skipper waited for the Sydney Tall Ships vessel to vacate the wharf and then returned to pick up our passenger but unfortunately he was no longer there since your skipper took it upon himself to let our passenger on to his vessel. I would like to point out that at no point were our crew aware that the man had cerebral palsy. We thank you for calling out to our crew and trying to make them aware of the situation, however this isn’t always effective over the sound of over 200 hundred people on board, music playing, boarding announcements being made and the sound of roaring engines. We're thrilled that you enjoyed your time aboard the Soren Larsen and genuinely hope the young man did, too. I reassure you, all of our passengers also enjoyed a great day out on Sydney Harbour. Discussions are currently underway with Sydney Tall Ships regarding the issue. If you have any further concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office on 02 9660 0388. 2019 Australia Day we boarded the Vagabond Princess for a great evening. The food was good, bar service excellent and the Cruise Director kept it happening. Only problem was boarding at the Man O War Steps, were the Opera Security service was using it as a drone airport, should not be allowed on a public wharf.
This cruise left from pontoon near the “toaster” in Sydney harbour which was very convenient close to circular quay train station - easy walking distance. It was such a glorious day we had 17 in our group, we cruised onto Sydney harbour around all the bays within the harbour and stopped on the sidelines of the ferry race, with champagne in hand. How fabulous to be part of the Australian day experience on the best harbour in the world with our friends enjoying an amazing lunch which included seafood and of course pavlova to complete the experience. We Love Vagabond cruises and have been with them several times because they are so experienced in providing a great day with such friendly and engaging crew, nothing is too much trouble. If you or family and friends want a great day out on the harbour you need to book with Vagabond Cruises and enjoy an truly amazing experience.
Hi there! Thank you so much for the fantastic review! We're sorry it has takern us so long to see it. We are only just getting on top of our public profiles. We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your experience on our Australia Day lunch cruise as well as your previous trips with Vagabond Cruises. A warm and sincere thank you for cruising with us and we hope to see you again some time soon! Michel and the events team @ Vagabond Cruises
The dinner cruise and fireworks were a great way to celebrate Australia Day. There was originally some concern as the boat was late in arriving for the pick up. The Opera House security let us know the wharf was essentially closed and the lateness of the boat was of great concern to them, as safety was an issue, and there was the threat that we would not be allowed to embark due to the tardiness of the boat. But the boat DID arrive and Opera House security did allow us to board. The cruise was LOVELY. Food was delicious and we really enjoyed those that were assigned to our table - very interactive and pleasant to spend an evening with. The fireworks were spectacular and seeing them from the water was such a treat!!!! One of the best evenings EVER. The only reason I deducted A star was the tardiness of the boat. There was no representative of the boat at the wharf to answer questions or inform the guests of the delay and that would have been very helpful
Hi Claire, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review back in January after your Australia Day Dinner Cruise aboard the MV Vagabond Spirit. Apologies for taking so long to see your review as we're only just getting on top of all of our public profiles. We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the food and service on board as well as the company of those on your shared table and of course the magical fireworks. We couldn't agree more, there's definitely something special about experiencing them from the water :) I am unable to comment on the delay that night so long after the matter but I can say that such delays are rare. As they often happen unexpectedly, it is difficult to get a member of staff to the boarding location in time to notify everyone. Thank you for your patience and I am glad that it all worked out in the end and that you enjoyed the overall experience. We hope to see you again soon!
