This was a nice little surprise to find a charming vineyard in San Gimignano (Tuscany) that was small and family owned. We were able to sample their wines, olive oils and balsamic vinegars - all very tasty!
This was a nice little surprise to find a charming vineyard in San Gimignano that was small and family owned and there for generations. The wine, olive oil and balsamic vinegars was delicious!
The description of the event gave the impression that the venue was in the town of San Gimignano - perhaps a little tasting table in a quaint shop. Not even close. It was on the outskirts of town and very difficult to find. Parking was challenging and not easy to manuever as we were directed to park on a steep hill in an olive grove dodging trees. What we got from our table inside was a very distant view of the town of SG from the tasting room. The tasting itself of 4 wines and 2 olive oils were not very good. The white wines were on the sour side, especially after having done several wineries throughout Tuscany already. The reds were okay. The food offerings were fine, but we only got 4 half slices of bread for 2 people to try the infused oils and basalmics. The purchase prices for the wines, oils and vinegars was incredibly expensive by comparison to other places we had been. We finished up within an hour and did not buy anything. For the price of the activity, we got bare basics and felt rather cheated by the experience. Would not recommend this place again.
Hello Jessica! Thanks a lot for your review. I'm so sorry that you weren't pleased with the place position, but as you can see on any platform ( booking.com, Viator, Tripadvisor, Pur website, Google Maps, or iPhone Maps), we show the address of our farm, so that people can understand where we are. Also, we specify that we are situated just outside the city center of San Gimignano ( about 800 meters ). In winter, we obviously work with the interior part of our farm, which is anyway a historical farmhouse that dates back to the XV century. The parking is situated in one of our olive groves it is true, we tried to respect as much as possible the environment surrounding us and decided not to cut poor olive trees that produce amazing olive oil. The white wines were sour, were they? Yes, it is possible our whites are 100% Vernaccia, which is a mineral kind of grape. Surely not a fruity chardonnay. The oils in the tasting weren't just 2 but 5 and also you had 3 balsamic vinegar, you said a piece of very wrong and fake information. The prices are high for you, but not for us, considering all the efforts that we put into each bottle and using just natural methods of production the risks and the manual skills are higher. The price of the activity is 30 €, and included mixed bruschetta and fresh bread to taste the oils as well as a selection of Tuscan cheeses, 4 wines to taste, 6 olive oils and 3 balsamic. I don't think is much for a full tasting. Also, I want to specify that a real farm needs land to work, it is not possible to find soil to cultivate in a medieval city center. Thanks
Lovely little place with a great view of Sam Gimignano and the vineyards. Wine was really good. The cheese was really good and the olive oil was really good. The police is not hard to find. If you follow the address they give you. Don't try to find the name of the police. Where this review takes a strong turn south is that we never really felt like we were welcome there. It started with the person at the register who seemed annoyef that we were there. My wife commented on how neat a decoration was near the register and the kid looked at it looked at my wife like he was disgusted. Maybe he was having a bad day. They ran out the wine. Explained it in about 1 minute and then left. They then brought out the cheese and olive oil. Explained it in about 2 minutes and then left. We never heard from them again. I guess maybe we didn't look the part. But we were never explained much at all about the cheese and olive oil. Perhaps which ones we should eat first. So we just drink our wine ate our cheese and olive oil and got up and left because nobody ever came back to see how we were doing. We drove there and there was plenty of parking but you could easily walk from town.
Yes, the location is very nice, the building, the table serving and mostly the view to San Gimignano city, but there was a big disappointment, because our group didn't have an excursion in the vineyards and wine cellar, the guy who served us didn't knew nothing about wine making, just knew what he is putting in the glasses. If you are not interesting to get to know all about the whole process from grape to wine, then just for tasting wine, olive oils and balsamico with different snacks, it is fine.
Excellent wines, food and care, including the care and quality of the products. I always probably recommend their balsamic acetate. It's amazing.
Nice tour but fairly predictable. Wine was okay but not top and also quite at the price. I'll give you a 7.
The food, wine staff were wonderful. I had a tour of Senior Citizens who totally enjoyed it. They paired the wine with different foods, such as meat and cheeses, and they sent the first case with no shipping costs! Thank you so much for a very enjoyable time!
The wine was great and the pairing with the cheese was well done. The owners are very friendly and this is a great place to taste wine and enjoy Tuscany views. We did have trouble finding it because the wine tasting sign had a different name than the winery. We past by it and had to circle back. Parking is limited.
Easily accessible from San Gimignano on foot. A good selection of wine, olive oil and cheese to try. Good value for money and very friendly and knowledgeable hosts.
