I’d read the reviews and some weren’t great so wasn’t going to go. Very glad I changed my mind. There is a lot of Fairbanks info provided and history provided. So if you don’t enjoy knowledge and history is not your cup of tea, I’d likely skip. But if you like to learn about the area, the native people, and dog mushing, you’ll embark on a lovely excursion. The dog mushing info is provided from the boat along the river stop so you’re not hands on at the kennel. A lovely day even with the rain.
We were part of the Holland America pre cruise excursion. It was a well run, informative, and fun. The beef stew lunch was very good.
It was a wonderful well planned experience. The staff were excellent & helpful. It was a perfect sunny day.
Great activity very informative and enjoyable. Good for all ages and abilities. Snacks and drinks available.
Very well-organized tour. Bought tickets online and arrived at the recommended time (30 minutes before departure). Plenty of parking. Easy to find the ticket counter just inside the entrance to the left to get a physical ticket prior to boarding. There’s a large gift shop and restrooms while you wait to board. Even though there were a lot of people, the boarding went smoothly and there were plenty of seats – inside and outside. You can get up and walk around while the boat is going, so don’t worry about missing any sights on the other side of the boat. The team really makes the tour – great narrators throughout, captain and crew, etc. Learned a lot about Alaska and Fairbanks history in a short amount of time and the height of the boat gives great vantage points over the river and surrounding area. Nicely timed visit to Chena Village. Fantastic job by Bella and Kaidyn who shared stories and histories with us. The Village has a variety of exhibits you can walk through, restrooms, and water. It also has sunshine and mosquitos – so do wear/bring sunscreen and bug spray. I had read the morning tours can be cold, but it was plenty warm in June and didn’t need a jacket. There were a few snacks on board and there is an option to get lunch after. Whether you only have a day or two – would recommend putting this tour on the top of your list of things to do in Fairbanks.
We enjoyed the well organized “show”. Gr aeat staff, but the river scenery was not impressive. It was a relaxing 3 hours
Fabulous & engaging way to demonstrate native living, history and pride
Loved the dog sled part the most. Very informative. Thanks again for the opportunity and the great work you did to make this happen
We did this tour with a couple that had done it before, but we all loved it. It is run very well, and all the details are planned out to the last detail. They have a nice gift shop that you can go in before or after the tour. It was very relaxed and I would recommend it. The staff on and off the boat were very friendly and assisted with anything you needed.
This tour had a lot of unexpected highlights, including lunch, excellent narration on the boat, commentary from the riverside as the boat traveled along the river and educational demonstrations.
