Mediocre Cruise

Overall most of the people on this cruise were nice but the ship was very outdated and and the rooms weren't the greatest. The food was mediocre. We did enjoy our tour guide Amr, he was very knowledgeable, friendly, and made the trip more enjoyable.

Great time and amazing history not the best boat

The experience overall was very good. The people are all very friendly and courteous. Amr our tour guide was straightforward from the beginning about the costs of everything for the trip and the options we have. He treated us very well on the tour and was an excellent storyteller when he explained the temples. The kids all enjoyed his explanations and still remember it. He was very accommodating to everyone in the group young and old and went above and beyond to make sure everyone is happy. He even got us sugar cane juice. The negative part was the boat itself which was old and not clean. We did not like the rooms or the bathrooms. The towels seemed dirty all the time. Also the food was mediocre. The other thing we didn’t like was the lack of information after booking. There was no information about what boat we will be on and what our accommodations will be like. Also the daily schedule of activities was explained to us day by day. We would have felt more comfortable knowing the schedule and preparing for it especially with the group of kids we had. Overall we all had a great time and felt safe the whole time. The transportation was air conditioned and comfortable. And Amr the tour guide was the highlight of the trip. Thanks for the great time Amr!

AVOID AT ALL COST!

BEFORE BOOKING A TOUR WITH THEM READ THIS AND THE REVIEWS IN MODY EGYPT TOURS, THE COMPANY THAT ORGANISE THIS TOUR. I’m going to write this review after traveling +25 countries and I worked as a Tour Guide. First of all we arrived to our cruise and we met our tour guide Amr. Since the first moment I feel that his vibes are not the best, calling us all the time “My friend”. You are not my friend, and this is not the language that you should use with customers, especially the first day. The first thing that he explained to us was to pay the 105$ for the activites (okey); but then 18$ extra mandatory per person for tips before doing any activity, and 3% comision if we were to pay by credit card. THE TIPS ARE ALWAYS VOLUNTARIES AND AT THE END OF THE TOUR, NOT BEFORE. Also he tried to sell us an extra tour to visit Nubian village (28$ per person) and we said NO, but he kept persuading us to go many times because for sure he has comission. The first day was acceptable, we visit the first temple, but then he bring us to a Spices shop without asking, thing that personally I didn’t like it. We compared the prices between that shop and other shops similars and the price is increased x10. There every Spice costs around 2,3 or 5 EGP x gram, and in the other shops is 0.15 to 0.30 EGP x gram. After this we had some free time in the cruise to enjoy the swimming pool, dinner and go to sleep early cause the next day we started at 04:20. Mention that our Guide Amr, during all day was repeating the sentence “Have a look my friend” too many times. The information that he gave to us was accurate, but for me, the most important quality being a tour guide is the ability to convey passion when explaining something, and in his case, he didn’t manage to do that with us. The second day, we woke up super early, 04:20 meeting point. We went to Abu Simbel, in total 9h driving. When we arrived there we had only 1h 20’ to visit all the 2 temples, listen the explanation and take photos, not enought time to enjoy one of the most beautiful temples in all Egypt. In the afternoon we visit another temple called Komombo, the temple was amazing but, one thing I didn’t like was the way he spoke to a customer from another group and to another guide. I can’t say exactly what he said because he spoke in Arabic, but from his tone and the way they interacted, it was clear that it wasn’t a friendly conversation. After that, he asked us if we would give him a 5 star review, which put us in an uncomfortable position. That’s not something a guide should ask for directly; at most, it can be suggested if the guests genuinely enjoyed the tour. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for us. The third day, probably the WORST. Meeting point again 04:30AM to vist Edfu Temple, the most well preserved of Egipt and one of the biggest. Our van arrived 20’ late. When we arrived there the queue was quite long, we went inside at 5:10. WE ONLY HAD 1H TO VISIT THE TEMPLE, cause our cruise departs at 06:30 to Luxor. Of course we didn’t have time to visit all the temple and take photos. It was on the way out that we got upset, because theoretically we didn’t have enough time to visit the temple. However, when we passed by one of the shops near the exit, he recommended that we buy things there, probably because he was friends with the owner or was getting a commission. After that he gathered us together to arrange our transport to airport, but he used this moment to give us a envelope to give him tips¿¿??. After that we visit 2 more temples, quite interesting both of them perhaps most of the people recommend to visit Luxor Temple during the night and we visited during the day. Our guide keep insisting on give him 5 stars review. THE WORST PART COMES NOW: During the day he explained us the schedule for the next day, he repeatedly stated on several occasions that the hot air balloon activity depended on weather conditions and had not yet been confirmed, which surprised us because the forecast was for sunny weather, with no clouds and no wind. Indeed, when night came, he confirmed it to us: THE ACTIVITY WAS CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS. We contacted the company they work with to ask for an explanation, and they confirmed that the activity is not operated during the summer months. THEREFORE, WE WERE MISLED BY BOTH, OUR GUIDE AND THE COMPANY, as they knew from the beginning that we would not be able to take part in the activity, yet they did not inform us until the very last moment. IF YOU BOOK THIS ACTIVITY DURING JUNE, JULY OR AGOUST, YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO DO THE HOT BALLOON AIR ACTIVITY. When we asked the guide for an explanation via WhatsApp, he completely ignored us and instead started sending videos of a party taking place on the boat, showing no concern for us whatsoever. He provided no further explanation or justification. The last day, we woke up with another message from him once again asking for a 5-star review. Then we visited the final two temples, making one last stop at a souvenir shop selling stone handicrafts. It was more interesting than the first shop we had visited, but it was also overpriced x10 (a small figurine cost €20). It is also worth mentioning that on this final day, the guide only gave us a brief five-minute explanation of the two temples from outside. Compared to other guides we encountered at the temples, we found the information provided to be rather poor. Summary: PROS: * All the monuments and temples in Egypt * The cruise ship, including the swimming pool and cabins * Transportation in general CONS: * The guide * The company and its misleading service, selling activities that cannot actually be carried out (hot air balloon ride) * The language and attitude used, including repeatedly asking for reviews and mandatory tips at the begining. * Very limited time to properly visit and explore the temples. * Need to pay wifi and drinks in the hotel.

Wonderful

Wonderful experience. A huge thank you to our guide, Amr, who was very professional and kind, as well as to the entire boat crew, who were fantastic! The hot air balloon ride was canceled by the Egyptian government, but the refund is currently being processed by Viator

Good Overall

Overall, this was a good experience, and I would recommend it. However, there are a few important details that future travelers should keep in mind before booking. As I did thorough research and had already read in various previous reviews, I knew that communication with the tour operator would likely be last-minute, so I did not worry too much about it. My package included the cruise as well as flights from Cairo to Aswan and from Luxor back to Cairo. Flight information was sent to us the night before each departure, and everything went smoothly without any complications. So be patient. One important thing to know is that the cruise operates on specific schedules: Wednesday to Saturday (4-day cruise) or Saturday to Wednesday (5-day cruise). Even if the booking app allows you to reserve different start dates, be aware that your itinerary may be changed at the last minute to match the cruise’s departure schedule. The ship itself was somewhat dated. Painting work had taken place before our stay, but the smell of oil paint was still lingering throughout most of the vessel, which was not ideal for our allergies and asthma. That said, the ship was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The food was good and had varied options, although the beer and wine selection was quite limited. Something that definitely must be improved is breakfast. We had to leave the ship around 4:30 a.m. for excursions, so we never had the opportunity to enjoy the regular breakfast buffet. Instead, we were given a very basic boxed breakfast that was mostly just bread. Providing a more substantial takeaway breakfast or opening the breakfast buffet earlier would greatly improve the experience. Unfortunately, our hot air balloon ride was canceled because it was too windy. However, we received a full refund through GetYourGuide without any issues, which was very much appreciated. It also lets you know about their sense of responsibility towards the guests safety. Excellent for that. The whole tour itself is very comprehensive and covers the most important temples and historical sites between Aswan and Luxor. Our guides, Amr Diffallah and Mahmoud Habibi, were friendly and somewhat knowledgeable. However, at times the presentations felt repetitive because the guides would often repeat the names of sites, temples, or historical figures multiple times without providing much additional context or substantial information. For example, names such as the Coptic Church, Karnak Temple, or various kings' names were repeated frequently, but the explanations did not always go into enough depth. Egypt is a country filled with incredible history, culture, and world-famous monuments. Visiting the temples, tombs, and archaeological sites was unforgettable. However, travelers should arrive with realistic expectations and an open mind if visiting for the first time. No matter how many people warn you about what you will encounter, it will still be a shock. One aspect that significantly affected our experience was the level of pollution in many areas. Litter was visible throughout the streets and even along parts of the Nile, which was extremely frustrating and disappointing. In addition, we experienced frequent harassment from locals, including persistent requests for tips, unsolicited assistance only to ask for tips after, and aggressive attempts to sell souvenirs. This was often overwhelming and made the experience considerably less pleasant than it should have been, especially for us first-time visitors. Despite these challenges, I would absolutely recommend visiting Egypt. The temples, ancient history, and unique cultural experiences make it unique a destination to visit. However it is of utmost importance to understand what to expect beforehand, as the cultural differences and overall experience can be quite a shock for some travelers.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I booked a large group tour with Mody Egypt Tours for 15 family members in November 2025 for travel in April 2026. We chose to book directly rather than through a third-party platform because we needed domestic flights between Cairo, Aswan, and Luxor included in the package. Initially, my experience was positive. I communicated with Eriny, who was responsive, helpful, and addressed my concerns. As the organiser of a trip for 15 people, I was naturally cautious after reading some negative reviews online, but Eriny's professionalism gave me confidence. Unfortunately, everything changed when Eriny left the company. In early March 2026, I was referred to Mostafa, and communication deteriorated dramatically. Messages often went unanswered, phone calls were ignored, and when replies did arrive they frequently failed to address the questions being asked. The most alarming issue occurred just two days before our tour was due to begin—a tour that had been booked and planned five months earlier. When I contacted Mostafa to confirm our flights from Cairo to Aswan, he informed me that flights were "not available" on the day we were due to travel and suggested rescheduling later in the week. This would have completely disrupted our carefully planned itinerary through Egypt and Jordan and caused us to miss a family wedding. When I checked independently, I could see flights available. After further discussion, the explanation changed from "no flights to Aswan" to "no flights back from Luxor." Again, I found available flights myself. During this time, communication remained extremely poor. Fortunately, I have Egyptian family members with contacts in the tourism industry. After several hours attempting to reach Mody Egypt Tours and eventually threatening to report the matter to Egyptian tourism authorities, a compromise was reached. We agreed to spend an additional night in Luxor due to scheduling issues with the return flight. The "5-star Nile cruise" we received was nowhere near the standard advertised. The vessel felt closer to a 2-star experience. Multiple rooms had significant issues including: - Non-functioning air conditioning - Strong diesel/boat fuel odours - Hair found in supposedly clean bedding Five couples requested room changes because the smell of fuel fumes in their cabins was overwhelming. Staff were reluctant to assist, making the process unnecessarily difficult. The food was equally disappointing—often cold, dry, and of poor quality, full of fluorescent food colouring! Another concern was being required to pay staff tips upfront. As someone from Australia, I find it unusual to be expected to pay gratuities before receiving the service. The additional night in Luxor became another major issue. Mody Egypt Tours attempted to charge us an extra USD $350 per person for one additional night. For our group of 15 people occupying seven rooms, this would have amounted to USD $5,250 for a single night (more than 50% of our total tour cost which had included flights). Instead, we found accommodation ourselves at a genuine 5-star Nile-side resort in Luxor for approximately USD $40 per person. The final issue involved payment of the remaining tour balance. The original payment link sent by Mostafa incorrectly attempted to charge me USD $6,720 instead of the remaining balance of USD $5,022. After I challenged this, a new payment link was sent but failed to work. I was then asked to pay onboard. When I met with the tour guide, Mohammed, he attempted to charge an additional 3% on top of the agreed balance. I showed the original booking calculations, which clearly demonstrated that the 3% fee had already been included, he didn't accept this. After approximately 45 minutes of me refusing to pay an additional 3% and Mohammed making several unsuccessful attempts to contact Mostafa, the correct amount $5022 was finally accepted. Egypt itself was incredible. Abu Simbel, the Valley of the Kings, and the many historical sites were unforgettable experiences. However, the stress, poor communication, accommodation issues, payment disputes, the blatant misogyny, and constant need to verify information independently made this one of the most frustrating travel experiences I have ever organised. I absolutely cannot recommend Mody Egypt Tours based on my experience. No aspect of this was worth the stress and never ending issues. If I were planning this trip again, I would book flights and accommodation independently and hire local guides directly rather than rely on this company. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
