Copacabana and lake Titikaka were amazing places to visit. Our guides Ricardo was knowledgeable, super friendly, and took great care to make sure that we were comfortable at all times. Bolivia is a diamond in the rough with superb sites to visit like the ones on this trip, but its infrastructure is not developed adequately. We had to take public bus transports and ferry boats to get to our destinations. The roads are rough and congested with traffic. In some areas, local vendors took over street lanes to sell their ware in open markets resulting in traffic jams. This is why our excursion took us over 16 hours. Very tiring to say the least. If you plan on taking this trip, you will enjoying the main attractions, however, be prepared for a long, somewhat uncomfortable journey.
Lake Titicama is a wonderful trip from La Paz, long day but worth it. There was a bit of misunderstanding as I thought I had booked a private tour but I had booked a private tour guide. We travelled by a tourist bus and on the return we had to use public transportation as the tourist bus had left, which was a bit surprising.
Our tour guide advised us against visiting the Isla (island), so we didn't see any real floating islands or straw boats.
We’re really sorry you didn’t have enough time to visit the islands. We didn’t want you to risk missing your departure to Uyuni. But at least you got to see Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, which is still a very special experience. Best wishes.
we took the 1-day Lake Titicaca + Copacabana + Isla del sol Package on 21-Aug-2025. Our guide MILTON was helpful, calm and attentive. He took very good care of us. The Viator listing did say this was on a "shared bus". As a 1st-time La Paz, Bolivia -- we just did not expect it to be on the public transportation (public bus, taxi, public ferry). I think we just did not adjust our expectations. However, our guide MILTON was really helpful, and he made our trip efficient.
It was a very tired day. Only the journey from La Paz/Copacabana takes about 4 hours....and there is the return...we left the hotel very early and returned after 22 hours. There is not much to see/do in Copacabana. The crafts are more important than in La Paz. We picked up a boat at Lake Titicaca toward Sun Island. The Sun Temple is a reconstruction and is not authentic Inca. The trail has nothing to see, except to observe the landscape (which we can not even do). It's very steep (up and down) and the guide thought we were all altitude athletes. He ran out, gave no explanations of the importance of the place and did not give time to observe the landscape. I know a little about the Inca history of Lake Titicaca and the Sun Island why I read about it before I went. The guide explained nothing! We were just tired; because the tour was almost just going by bus, boat and almost "die" on the track. If it were not for the nature of Titicaca and the surrounding Andes the rating would be negative! Advice: do it in 2 days and with a guide that shows and teaches about the place!
When I say this advertised as private tour, my impression was that we had private van. We took charter bus in the morning with other groups and although our group was small (4 together) we took charter buses all day. On the way back we had to transfer to another bus half way, which kept making random stops for people, we didn’t get back until 10:30 at night and even then were not dropped off at original bus stop, they offered to take a cab back but it was late and we were hungry so we split and got our own cab to dinner. The destinations were not that impressive, not worth the price. The only good thing about this tour was our tour guide Yarmile who was very sweet, flexible and knowledgeable.
A spectacular and unmissable tour, to remember. The scenery, the food, the culture, the Bolivian people, everything I recommend. He highlighted the work of our Albert Guide who always had excellent willingness and very friendly with the group of tourists.
This tour is a scam !! Private tour ? Transportation was in a shared bus with another 20 people. Boat rides were shared too. We had to wait for everybody at the bus, tours, and boat so the wait was long and painful. Tour started 6.30 Am and We got back to the city about 10.30 Pm. The lunch was included. There were plenty of nice restaurants around the lake , but the one the tour had was very unremarkable and we even had to pay extra for the water or soda we had . Who include a meal without even a liquid? 70 % of the tour was traveling first in bus then in boat with a bunch of people, so we do not have any close contact with the guide and barely get any informations of the sights . Overall, it was not a very interesting tour and if you still want to do it, just pay the half of the price , book a group tour, and in the end it will be the same.
Beware. This tour is on either “tourist” buses or public transport. The bus up to the lake was fine, but the one back was a city bus, therefore very underpowered. The driver took bends very quickly to try and keep momentum. Be sure to take plenty of your own food and drink for both journeys and not suitable if you can’t go for three hours without a loo stop. Our guide was hopeless. No enthusiasm , more interested in his girlfriend who came with him!
Title of your tour is very misleading, not really a private tour although description does say shared travel, but we had 50 others with us and constantly kept waiting for them, if we would have known we would have gone in a tour with another operator probably for a cheaper price
