Title is somewhat misleading; even our guide said the Civil War had little effect on Atlanta. Heard all rhe guide had to say in an earlier Historic District Tour.
Thank you for the review! We are sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy the tour. It has been our most popular tour since 1994! There were no battles in Savannah Civil War era but there were skirmishes and Sherman did occupy Savannah for 6 weeks. But there is a lot of unintentional fake news when it comes to his burning the South. He only burned two places, Meridian Ms and Columbia SC. Atlanta was burned by the Confederate army before his arrival. If you’re ever back in Savannah, I’ll give the tour myself and I’ll have some complimentary passes for the tour waiting on you.
This is was by far the best tour I’ve EVER been on! Our guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and made the history of Savannah come alive with interesting stories and facts. I learned so much and left with a deeper appreciation for the city. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Savannah, especially if you enjoy history!!!
Thank you Lolly for such a fine review! Your experience is why we try so hard at what we do!
Our guide was full of good historical information and delivered it with enthusiasm and interesting tidbits. However we did stand at our meeting point for 40 minutes prior to starting the walking tour! 😆 I think that portion should have been cut short.
Thank you for the review! We have found that our American peers are so woefully misinformed in American history that we spend extra time before walking ensuring everyone is up to speed with the basics. It’s even more necessary when delving into the Civil War!
Guide was very knowledgeable. Not boring at all as some Civil War/historic tours can be. Answered questions and told of personal experiences. Loved it. 10/10 recommend
We are glad to hear you enjoyed the tour! Thank you!!
Covered info far beyond just the Civil War while still covering the Civil War. Lovely squares all explained.
Our guides try to allow the tour to satisfy everyone’s interests. We’re so glad you enjoyed the tour!
Interesting history but felt that it was dragged out and lacked audience engagement, more geared towards a mature audience- kids were bored even though my youngest loves all things history and has enjoyed similar tours in the past. Felt very classroom-like
Thank you for the review! Yes, it’s a Civil War tour. The tour is always full of Civil War buffs interested in knowing more about Savannah’s role in the war. A little more focused and serious than a history of Savannah tour? Probably. In April and May, parents send their children to Savannah to take our walking tours and learn more about the War and Savannah’s unique history. You might consider a trolley tour next time. They are scripted and are written for those with limited interest and shorter attention spans.
Marcia was the best. Very knowledgeable and entertaining. Learned a few things didn’t know about the civil war. Highly recommended to others.
Thank you so much for the review! Marcia is among the best of walking tour guides in Savannah!
Excellent overview of civil war history but also contained talking points that would be interesting to all kinds of your groups
Thank you so much for your review! We are delighted to hear you enjoyed the experience!!
**Tour Rating: 5.0 / 5.0** Mr. Spinks delivers a masterclass in Georgia history. His depth of knowledge is exceptional. Not surface-level anecdotes. Not rehearsed sound bites. He walks you through Georgia year by year during the Civil War, connecting military movements, political shifts, and economic realities with precision. Each key figure is introduced with context, motivations, and consequences. Generals, governors, civilians. He explains not just what happened, but why it mattered. The location detail is equally strong. Battle sites, rail lines, coastal defenses, Savannah, Atlanta, rural strongholds. He anchors each story to geography so the narrative becomes tangible. What stands out most is his discipline with facts. He separates documented history from folklore. He addresses urban myths directly and dismantles them with primary-source reasoning. That level of intellectual honesty elevates the entire experience. This is not a casual tour. It is structured, chronological, and substantive. If you value historical accuracy, context, and narrative continuity, Mr. Spinks sets a high bar.
Thank you so much for your review! It sets a pretty high bar itself! We are so appreciative that you took the time to leave your review and do hope that you will come back and visit again!
This is must experience tour for anyone interested in history from pre revolution to recent times. A info filled two hour tour. Highly recommended.
Thank you so much for the wonderful review!
