I didn’t really know what to expect on this trip. I am a Rabbies girl, so I knew it would be good…but this trip was EXCELLENT! Tom was our guide and he was great (bad jokes and all, lol). We lucked out and had 2 sunny, clear days. I thought Skye was my favorite view in Scotland, but that has since changed to Mull and Iona. We weren’t rushed, but got to see everything we wanted, including puffins and highland cows. I will continue to trust Rabbies to take me on terrific adventures of Scotland. If you are doubting your trip, don’t. Book it!
We had a fabulous three-day tour to Mull and Iona with our guide, Tom. Right from the moment he picked us up in Glasgow in his kilt, he made us all feel welcome with his easy manner and dry humour. His knowledge of Scotland and Scottish history is excellent, but more than that, he is a great storyteller. The tour itself is varied, and you really pack in everything. Our highlights were the Isle of Iona, the epic landscapes of Mull, and seeing Duart Castle on the headland from the ferry to Oban. We have done a number of tours with Rabbies, and this was our favourite.
Highly recommended Rabbie's for small group Scotland tours. Despite the cold and rain, it was an excellent 3 days: well organised, interesting, covered so many highlights like Loch Lomond, Glencoe, ancient standing stones, and forest waterfalls, as well as the Isles, with driver/guide Tom giving commentary, stories, and history along the way. He made the whole experience great with humour and helpfulness. Great price, excellent vehicle, and everything so well arranged.
Just returned from easily the best tour of my life and I couldn't wait to put words to this review. James is singly the most charismatic, knowledgeable guide I have ever met. His pride of the Highlands and Scotland beamed through charming anecdotes and historical depictions. James ushered us on a lovely journey through time and a truly breathtaking landscape that defies description. He joked about having a life changing experience but it actually became one. We all metamorphosed from tourists to our new job - returning to our various homes around the world to sing the praises of Scotland and Rabbie's Tours.
Fingal’s Cave, Glencoe, and Iona all in one trip! Tom is an absolutely fantastic guide. He has an abundant knowledge of the area and made the trip enjoyable and entertaining. Beautiful weather and beautiful scenery. The Best of Scotland! Highly recommended!
The tour itself is a 5 star..the places we visited were amazing. Our host was great at making it such a memorable experience. The islands and additional trip to Staffa were a highlight of our trip. Based on those things the trip would have been a resounding FIVE but our accommodation was less than ideal. I would give it a 1 and although the hosts were wonderful it was essentially a small room in the attic without a ceiling fan or air conditioning. It had to be 90 degrees up there and we asked for a fan but they didn't have one and the window didn't have a screen so we had to choose between air and letting bugs in. In addition, everyone else had rooms right on the main road of the town and we had a 15 minute hike up a steep climb to get back and forth to our room. For how much we paid, the accommodation should have been nicer. So the tour is an absolute YES but I would secure your own accommodations.
Hi Laurie, Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. I'm thrilled that you had such a fantastic time on the tour overall! It’s wonderful to know that the places you visited and the trip to Staffa, made it such a memorable experience – that’s exactly what we aim for. But I'm disappointed that the accommodation didn’t meet your expectations. The B&B you stayed in is typically very highly rated by past guests, so we’re surprised and disappointed to hear this wasn’t the case for you. We’ll be sure to pass this feedback along to them directly. Buildings in the UK are typically designed to retain heat and air conditioning and ceiling fans are not common. However, with warmer summers becoming more frequent, this is something property owners may need to consider. I'm sorry this made your stay uncomfortable. Regarding the location, we do try to indicate that B&Bs can be a 20–30 minute walk from town centres, but I appreciate this is easy information to miss. It’s also worth noting that in Tobermory, all hotels are situated on the main street, and customers who selected the hotel option were booked accordingly. Those who selected the B&B option were all placed in the same property as you. I hope all future experiences are much more positive, but if you're ever unhappy during your trip, please do remember that we’re always available to contact, and we'll do our best to help in the moment wherever possible. Thanks again for your review – and for your kind words about the tour itself. We're so glad that part of your experience was a highlight, and we’d love to welcome you back again - hopefully with more comfortable accommodations next time. Thanks, Jo
Tom was an awesome guide. He took great care of our group of 16 - keeping us safe & comfortable as we traveled by van and ferry across to the Isles of Mull and Iona. Tom is a talented storyteller. Closing my eyes while listening to Tom’s captivating stories of the past almost made me feel like I was there, experiencing the moments as he spoke in his lilting Scottish accent. He broke up the long journey with well timed tales, jokes and musical interludes. And, he delivered on all of our various requests - be it song requests, hunting down some highland cows, or taking pics of the infamous standing stones! Highly recommend!
We have just come back from our trip to Mull and Iona and we had a great time. The bus was comfortable and Nick our driver was brilliant. He was so knowledgeable about everywhere we went giving loads of information but making it enjoyable. He is obviously a people person, very quickly learning everybody's name and making us feel like a team . Nothing was too much trouble, we can honestly say he made the trip special for all of us. Thank you Nick.
Sadly, you only ask about the positive memories of the tour. That only boosts "happy" comments you post. The tour was very disappointing. While one cannot control the weather, the lack of back-up plans was unfortunate. For instance, when the tour arrived on Mull, there was a chance the weather would not hold and the ferry to Iona would be cancelled. When asked if the group could visit the castle (I believe Duart), the tour guide did not know if the castle was open. He found that the castle had closed the day before, but the castle was likely still viewable. It was not offered to the group. Instead, the trip back went along the other side of the island with more views of the coastline. Lovely, but not worth the cost. The female single passenger on the tour who sat in the jump seat beside the tour director was NOT in charge though she interjected herself into situations that were his domain. Not a good look. And after the Belgium Viator guide being so professional, knowledgeable, and personable, the comparison to this tour was very markedly different.
Hi Patricia, Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I'm sorry to hear that the tour wasn't quite what you were hoping for. It's definitely disappointing you didn't make it to Iona but as you mentioned there's not much we can do about the weather. In these situations our team back on the mainland do their best to support the driver guides in creating alternative itineraries but it can be difficult due to limited reception on the road and ever changing circumstances. On this occasion it was decided that the best thing to do to keep everyone safe and warm was to return a different route and head back to Tobermory a little earlier than intended to allow passengers the opportunity to see and explore the town. I hope you were able to squeeze in plenty of sightseeing in this colourful and picturesque harbour town! I'm also sorry to hear that another passenger made your experience less pleasant. It is in our terms and conditions that all passengers behave appropriately, and we expect all our customers to treat others with respect. Should you ever have any concern about this you are always welcome to reach out to your driver guide or even pop us a message if you'd prefer not to discuss the issue directly. I hope that despite the weather disruption you still were able to take home some wonderful memories of the island and that you'll be back to visit us again soon so we can actually get you to Iona! Thanks, Jo
I was traveling alone. Our group was small so easily made friends for life. Our tour guide Nick was amazing! He knew so much about everything and he was very funny. He gave us good tips where to go and eat. Really liked how he made us feel so comfortable during the trip. The tour was so great, could've easily stayed longer on Isle of Mull and Iona. Staffa tour was also great. We saw a lot of dolphins. I let Rabbie's tour book the accomodation. Drimnin View was great. The room was big and breakfast was excellent. I will definitely book another tour with Rabbie's.
