Temple of Chavin de Huantar

Getting to the Fortress of Chavin de Huantar is easy from the village, give or take 5 minutes walking from the Central Square. The entrance is from 9:00 am and there are tour guides who by S/70 (you can meet with several groups) explain you throughout the tour how the temple worked. Admission is charged and people sell souvenirs on the outskirts. The temple is a must if you go to Huaraz, the tour takes an hour and a half and you can enter the underground Galleries (so it is better to hire a guide)

It was amazing.

The place itself is magic and wonderful. The guide (spanish speaking) was professional, I enjoyes his explanation. The thing I dont like (about all peruvian tours) is a very exausting travelling to and from destination. Distances are short, but the roads are bad. But Chavin site is worth getting there anyway!

Chavin as a family, a journey through our culture and history

My family experience to the Chavin de Huantar archaeological complex was unique, we went out in particular mobility and took about 2 hours, made a stop at the Querococha Lagoon and strolled by boat and horseback taking in an impressive natural landscape. When we arrived at the complex what we liked the most was the Guided Service and the clean and tidy facilities despite being in high season for national parties. We traveled through the galleries, square and circular squares until we reached the ledges with the only nailhead that still remains in its original place. An unforgettable trip highly recommended as a family.

Start earlier. Finish earlier.

Being a tour guide I have a few suggestions. 1) Start to leave town at 730am. 2) Chavin tour begins at 1030am 3) Lunch at 1230pm 4) Museum at 200pm 5) DEpart for Huaraz 3:00pm 6) Arrive Huaraz 600pm Drop participants at Plaza de Armas

Excellent one-day excursion !!!

We visited Chavin de Huantar in April 2025 and learned a lot about this ancient pre-Inca culture. The tour with the Qorianka angency was well organised and the guide excellent. Definitely recommended.

The trip involves a long...

The trip involves a long ride on a Greyhound sized bus through stunning scenery and then a thorough traverse of the Chavin ruins and museum. The guide was very knowledgeable and kept things moving. My Spanish is only ok so I didn’t get everything but that is my fault (there were no side translations to English). My only complaint was that the guide was a bit bossy - he scolded people for being on their cellphones, told people where to sit in the bus, repeatedly warned people about not being late and spent a fair amount of time telling jokes, which required you to listen rather than being allowed just to look out the window. But all in all a very good experience.

Disappointing

We took a day trip from Huaraz to Chavin de huantar, stopping on the road at Qerococha lagoon. The lagoon is nice but no more. But being on the side of the road, it would be a shame not to stop there. However, we were very disappointed by the visit to the Chavin site. We found that it was very poorly developed. We cannot approach the most interesting places, and access to see the Lanzon is very poorly organized. Only the museum is worth the visit with beautiful pieces that you have all the time to admire. If you still want to visit this site, avoid going through an agency: Everyone arrives at the same time (which is problematic given the bad organization of the site), no time to make the tour quietly, a Check-out from Huaraz too late (8:30 announced, but actually 9:30 time to pick everyone up)

Unmissable

The place is incredible and very interesting. Millennia of history right there, preserved and with an experienced guide who explains in detail about the archaeological site. Clean and safe bus.

MAGNIFICENT

Spectacular place. A close encounter with the history and cultural manifestations before the Incas in Peru. It is an unmissable attraction for those interested in knowing the history and cultural legacy in Peru.
