My wife and I recently took a day trip to the Bajos del Toro area in Costa Rica, focusing on the Gemelas Waterfalls and the Catarata del Toro Waterfall. If you're looking for jaw-dropping natural beauty without the massive crowds of more touristy spots, this hidden gem in the cloud forest is absolutely worth it. Our tour included breakfast and lunch at a local restaurant. We both had the traditional Costa Rican breakfast and enjoyed it very much. Especially since we were dining with locals at a traditional restaurant. Our tour guide from, DoTicoTours, Eric was fantastic. He guided our hike through beautiful terrain all the way to the Gemelas (Twin) Waterfalls. He is also a very good photographer and took beautiful pictures of me and my wife. At the Gemelas Waterfalls, we asked if we could change the tour and head towards the Catarata del Toro Waterfalls. He said that it would be no problem at all, and we left towards one of the tallest waterfalls of Costa Rica. The views of the 90 meter (100 yards) waterfall, were spectacular! Overall, this was one of the highlights of our Costa Rica trip. Bajos del Toro has cooler temperatures and endless green landscapes. If you like personalized attention, love nature and if you're reasonably fit, don't miss it. Just bring good shoes, water, snacks, and rain gear. This tour is without doubt a 5 out of 5 stars and Eric is an outstanding guide. We'd go back in a heartbeat.
Thank you very much for your wonderful review and for choosing DoTicoTours for your visit to Bajos del Toro. We truly appreciate your kind words about the experience, the waterfalls, and the local breakfast and lunch. It means a lot to us to know you enjoyed both the natural beauty and the authentic cultural touch of the tour. Your feedback motivates our team to continue delivering high-quality, memorable experiences. We hope to welcome you back to Costa Rica again soon. Best regards, Eric
We were looking for a longer waterfall day hike to fill a spare day in San Jose, Costa Rica visiting from Seattle, WA, USA. We were fortunate to learn about Do Tico Tours and participate in a spectacular blue waterfall hike with Eric, the knowledgeable and passionate owner of the company who is a very experienced hiker. Excellent communication and easy pick up from our hotel around 6am (it ended up being a private tour with just us, but he says the tours stay small under 6 people). We then embarked on a beautiful drive to a small town near Poas Volcano. Delicious breakfast and lunch included. Comfortable 4X4 vehicle and careful driving up and down small mountain roads that would be hard to traverse on a tour bus or on one’s own in a rented car without a guide. Eric ensured we were staying safe on the hike by pointing out safety techniques and tricky parts. Our hike down to the falls was around 10km; I would consider it a moderate hike with some downhill and rope rappelling. Though, for people less experienced with hiking or with mobility needs, alternative routes are available. Eric took amazing photos, too! Highly recommend for people who enjoy hiking visiting Costa Rica and are seeking a hiking adventure out of San Jose or beyond.
Thank you very much for your detailed and kind review. We truly appreciate you choosing DoTicoTours and are delighted to hear you enjoyed the waterfall hike, the scenic drive, and the included meals. Your comments about the organization, transportation, and overall experience mean a lot to our team. We’re glad we could help make your day in Costa Rica memorable. Thank you again for your trust, and we hope to welcome you back on another adventure soon. Best regards, Eric.
THE Bajos del tora tour was a very good work out and great hike. The waterfalls were beautiful . The guide (Eric) was great!
Thanks for sharing your hiking experience with our team!
Eric was an exceptional guide. He was very cognizant of our well being at all times. The hike was moderately difficult but the waterfalls at the end made it all worth it. Highly recommended!
Thank you William for your great comment, it was a pleasure to hike and explore this beautiful water sanctuary. Never stop exploring Costa Rica see you later on a new adventure!!
This trip was definitely a highlight of all my trips in Costa Rica. Eric is a friendly guy, who loves hiking and basically shows you some hidden gems. Bajos del Toro has beautiful waterfalls in different colors you can even swim in, located in a gorgeous valley. If you want (and the weather allows it) you can even take the adventure to another waterfall over steep, muddy jungle paths and through a river. Eric guided a fabulous hike through the rainforest to several beautiful blue and green waterfalls. It was fantastic to see and swim in the falls with no people around. Eric explained at lot of the nature, about the volcano, the blue water, blue butterflies, snakes, blue ants and singing birds. The tour included food at genuine Tica restaurant with local food😀 Do this tour!!!

A beautiful place, lots of adventure, beautiful landscapes with sky waterfalls. Arriving at the place very early we started to see beautiful mountains, had a rich breakfast and then set out to walk to visit 4 really beautiful falls. I highly recommend this experience and our very attentive guide Eric.
Hola de nuevo agradecemos sus comentarios, fue un placer realizar este fantástico tour, excelente aventura!! Keep exploring!!
What a great experience!!! This eco-style tour drove us through small towns and we ate a local restaurant that supports local farmers. The hiking experience was full of fun, adventure, and created life time memories. Being able to walk up and into the falls was worth every ounce of energy!!! A change of clothes for after the hike are needed!!!
Thanks for your comments, stay safe and keep walking!!
