We had a wonderful afternoon in Cartagena with our guide, Cesar. We had a little bit of difficulty connecting with each other at the beginning, but Cesar and others we wonderful at walking us through how to meet up with our guide. Cesar was a joy to spend the afternoon with. He tailored our visit to what interested us most. And he was very conscious of getting us back to our ship in plenty of time before sailing time. The communication prior to our visit was excellent - and reassuring that everything was in order.
Our tour guide, Katherine, and our driver, did an excellent job. She was very knowledgeable and fun to be with for the four hours of the tour. She showed us all the highlights and went into great depth about the history and meaning of each of them to Columbia.
We had a very nice half-day private tour with Nelson (guide) and Astrid (driver) in Cartagena. We were met at the cruise dock by someone from Peace Travel who walked with us out of the cruise port to meet Nelson and Astrid. We started the tour with a visit to Convent of Santa Cruz de la Popa, which has an interesting museum and spectacular views of the city. Then we visited a market and walked the streets of the old city. We then visited the San Felipe Fortress. We decided not to walk up since it was a hot day and we had recently been to a similar fort, but it was interesting from below. We walked through Parque de Centenario to see sloths and monkeys in the trees. We then visited the walls for ocean and city views and walked some more in the city before being dropped off at the cruise port. We went back to the city a few hours later for dinner and walking in Getsemani, which we enjoyed very much, but we did this on our own. Cartagena is a very vibrant city and we enjoyed our tour. Astrid was a wonderful driver (can't take this for granted here based on our taxi rides) and Nelson told us a lot about life in Cartagena. We also got to see his childhood home and taste a delicious mami fruit bought on the street. It was a wonderful half-day tour and we enjoyed our independent time as well.
After a little hiccup with finding our guide, my wife and I were met by Catherine and taken to our air conditioned taxi piloted by Victor. Catherine’s warm and friendly nature immediately settled us into our adventure for the day. She asked about us, what we would expect and any concerns. Catherine was very knowledgeable and spoke clearly and always made sure we understood, asked if we had questions, and queried us on what we had seen and the knowledge she had imparted. That was something we had not experienced in a private tour before and it helped to reinforce the information of what we had seen. At the fortress she invited us to experience the underground tunnel system after asking if we had claustrophobia and if we would like to do it. If you are fit and don’t mind squatting a bit it is an adventure worth experiencing (my almost 6 foot and hefty frame made for a bit of contortion and cautious stepping). We ended our day together strolling the streets of the walled part of the old city and the Getsemani neighborhood, stopping and soaking in the local charm and meeting an elderly friend of hers who, through Catherine’s translation, entreated us to a story of his encounter with prior presidents of the USA. He gestured by rubbing his arms to show us the goosebumps he experienced! A stop at a street vendor in front of the Plaza de San Pedro to sample a delicious grilled arepas was delightful. We finished our tour by strolling by the lovely street murals of the neighborhood. We met Victor who wished us in air conditioned comfort back to our ship well on time for our embarkation. Catherine was a phenomenal guide and if you are up for adventure, local charm, and history, you must ask for her!
My husband uses a mobility scooter so we usually book private tours to make it easier. The process of booking and payment was very easy. Instructions for finding the guide included a map which was helpful. Cesar and is wife met us and introduced us to our guide, Carlos, and driver Victor. The mobility scooter fit in the trunk. Carlos was a wealth of knowledge about the city and its history. We saw lots of sights and even had the opportunity to enjoy a drink at a local cafe. Victor was kind enough to bring up on his iPad a couple of the sights my husband couldn’t access so he could see them virtually. Overall a lovely day and I highly recommend this tour.
Andres was our guide and he did a great job explaining the sites, Annie was great, she met us at the meeting point and made sure we were comfortable and felt safe
Excellent experience. They went above and beyond to make the experience great. Professional and prompt. Highly recommend this travel agency!!
Truly a great company! We were on a Holland America cruise and chose this excursion. It was so easy! Excellent customer service before, during and after our tour. All communications made for an easy pickup and a wonderful day. The mini bus had awesome air conditioning. It’s sure was hot & humid! Driving through the walled city was so much more comfortable than walking the streets. Our tour guides were fluent in English and knew so much about each attraction. And, the best shops for coffee and chocolate 😊 If you are cruising this is a great alternative than the over-priced, crowded busses that the cruise lines offer.
Tour covers the best highlights of Cartagena. It is a moderate walk at times with the weather being humid & warm!.
Day trip on Carnival Venezia so we decided on the half day private tour. 100% highly recommend. They will alter the trip how you would like. Our tour guide, Willy Jr, was awesome. Very informative and knowledgeable. He asked what we wanted and did not make us do anything we weren't interested in. Felt very safe with him the whole time. He brought us to a local restaurant for lunch and the food was delicious. If I ever get back to Cartagena, I will be booking with Cesar and Peace Travel again.
