What a tour!

Packed with experiences and endlessly fascinating. Bruges itself, a hearty lunch, the chocolate museum, a beer tasting and a boat ride through the canals - all of it together made for the most vivid memories and the best possible aftertaste from the trip!!

Not a good experience

The review is actually for a Vatican tour which was not an option for selection. I booked a Vatican tour with confirmation and payment on March 26th which I had believed the tickets were secured as well. I had booked the tour through a third party which in turn them was booked using Tour Up in Europe. I had used the same third party to book a Coliseum tour the day before and had a wonderful experience. The first communication came April 21st (about 10 days prior to the tour). The message I received looked like this: “Hello, Please confirm with me if you would like the to be on the tour as we are running out of time to secure it”. To me, not knowing who sent it nor did they identify themselves, believed it to be a scam. So I chose to ignore it. The next message I received was the day before - well after the reschedule/cancel deadline stating that they were then wanting to either reschedule or try to find a guide that would still be able to do it. I wasn’t able to reschedule due to us leaving the following day. I received a message later securing a guide for the next day. I then received a message that we were to meet at the tour instead of the intended and paid for pickup service - therefore having to pay for a car service to the location. Upon arriving at the tour and meeting location I come to find out we were meeting the guide in the long queue line to purchase tickets. Believing this was standard protocol when meeting the tour guide I didn’t think we were “cutting the line”. After about 30 minutes in the line a woman and her husband started yelling at us that we “ were cutting the line” and they proceeded to move in front of us as they were cursing at us (not blaming them - I would be angry too). Then a group of people in front of them started yelling and cursing and telling us to get out of line. It started to become a “mob mentality” vibe as they were trying to get others in the line to get involved. It was quite unbelievable this was happening outside the Vatican. Even though our guide tried to ensure us there was no problem and to remain in the line, we chose to deescalate the situation and leave. We walked to a cafe to regroup and figure out what to do the rest of the day. Unbeknownst to us our guide was trying to figure out a way to continue the tour and ended up somehow purchasing tickets and resume the tour 2 hours after the original time. Not sure why he hadn’t done this in the first place. However, after being embarrassed and feeling unsafe (one guy threatened us with violence) we did not want to continue with the tour. So when I message Valerie with TourUp in Europe about the situation, her response was “I understand your disappointment. However, my guide informed me that he was waiting for you later with the tickets and you were not willing to continue with the tour. We also offered you rescheduling which you did not want. I kindly request you to continue the tour with **** as he has the tickets for you. We can definitely arrange a call or discuss here in detail regarding the tour. Warm regards, Valerie from Tour Up in Europe” I have no issues with the guide. He tried his best to accommodate us but it was just a disappointing experience. The biggest disappointment was the response from the company. I asked her for a call and have not heard back. My expectation was an apology and refund and received neither. Not even a call. Needless to say I find my experience to be unprofessional and just bad business practices. Now before whoever it is that responds to the bad reviews comes at me as if this was my fault - just don’t….just apologize and do better. You weren’t there to know how uncomfortable it was. No business is perfect and not everyone has a good experience - just be happy there are more positive than negatives. Also, don’t ask those that give 4 stars “why not 5?” …that just looks desperate…

Dear Laurel, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience - even though it is a very long and not very clear message especially in the end. We are sorry you felt endangered and disappointed. We will do our best to improve the service. However, we would like to clear out a few things: 1. The communication is a problem. When you book through a third party it is sometimes difficult to reach you. You claim that we contacted you first time 10 days in advance? We contacted you with a greeting confirmation message April 1st - the next day after you booked. Maybe this third party did not pass it to you. 2. The third party you booked through was not TripAdvisor but GetYourGuide and it is VERY difficult to work with them since they charge a 30% fine in case the booking is not accomplished - that is why our booking department contacted you politely in order to establish any direct contact - not at all like you cited it. 3.It is true the pickup was included - we have similar tours and the guide did not know it and mistakenly offered his own meeting point. But again - communication - you did not correct him. He could have come to the hotel and organised the private transfer for you. It would have helped if you had cleared things out. 4. The Vatican is one of the most difficult tours to lead - that is why it is essential to prepare everything in advance. We agree with the customer and strongly recommend not booking this tour through any third party - book directly with us and you will get an unforgettable experience. With love, tourupineurope.com

It was ok.

Tour guide was very nice and friendly. Driver was 30 minutes late picking us up. We've been on many private tours and this one was very average. For the amount of money we spent, we would have been better off taking the trains and exploring ourselves.

We will inquire what happened with the driver and he will be punished for the late arrival, but the tourists were given these 30 minutes plus in the end. The tour is what it is described – city tours and tastings in Bruges and Ghent. Of course, you can go and spend 150 EUR per ticket on Eurostar and go to Brussels and wait for the local trains and spend more money to go to Ghent and Bruges. But it will not be a PRIVATE ONE DAY TOUR which you spent 760 EUR for: - private guide - private transportation - chocolate/waffle/beer tasting - boat ride - water and Wi-Fi on the road Please do not forget that Tripadvisor/Viator take 25% commission. Book with Tour Up in Europe directly.

Say “yes” to Bruges!

I highly recommend this tour! I was traveling with my daughter and this was a great way to visit a different country and see a place quite different from Paris. There were so many great things we loved on this tour-waffles, beer, chocolate to name a few. It is a very long day though with a lot of travel time so expect to spend a good chunk of the trip in the car. Ghent was a nice city to visit but for us Bruges was the star so we would have been ok with just visiting the one city. Our tour guide David was wonderful and it was nice to travel with someone so knowledgeable and kind. Our driver was great as well, punctual and we traveled in a very nice vehicle You will leave this tour with some wonderful memories!

Great day trip to magical bruges

Bruges is magical! This tour is a great escape from Paris for a day. Since there is no direct transportation, going there by private transport was an excellent idea! Our guide was sweet and explained everything to us. We often went off the tourist paths, which was pleasant as well. Leonardo the Lama is also cute!

Our family loved this experience

This is a well organised and privately guided tour that we decided to book for the last day of our trip to Paris. And it was a great idea. Our guide Nataly led us through all the coziest places and chose an excellent lunch place. Our driver Allex was very helpful all the time.

Bruges is magic

We decided last minute to go on this tour. Luckily, this company accepted our request, and the next morning we were off to the medieval gem called Bruges! It’s truly magical. It was literally the best day outside of Paris. Totally recommend it. We ordered the tastings supplementary, and again, it was a wonderful decision. Our guide Helen and driver Allex were the best!

Strawberry-chocolate waffles and a traveling Llama?--YES, PLEASE!!

Tour Guide, Valerie, was amazing! Sultan, our excellent driver, picked us up in Paris and drove us to Bruges. Valerie was there to greet us and our fantastic day started. We toured sites in Bruges complete with history, stories, and explanations. We loved the canal ride, lunch, and ending our tour with the BEST waffles with chocolate and strawberries! Our day in Bruges was the highlight of our trip to Paris and we would go with Valerie on ANY tour she leads....and our son loved his "Cleo-nardo" (thank you Valerie for this special gift for him). A day trip to Bruges from Paris with Valerie is an experience we HIGHLY recommend!

An escape we will remember

While we came to explore France with our whole big family of 8 people last summer, we decided to spend one day in another country - Belgium. Thank you Tour Up for organising 2 mini-vans and all the chocolate/beer/waffles joy during the trip.
