Le complexe du palais royal a été créé en 1782 et il se compose non seulement de salles royales et du trône, mais aussi d'un certain nombre de bureaux gouvernementaux ainsi que du célèbre temple du Bouddha d'émeraude. Il couvre une superficie de 218 000 mètres carrés et est entouré de quatre murs de 1900 mètres de longueur. Après la montée sur le trône du roi Rama I en 1782, le palais fut construit. Auparavant, le palais royal et le centre de l'administration étaient situés à Thonburi, sur la rive ouest du fleuve Chao Phraya. Pour diverses raisons, le nouveau roi considère que l'ancienne capitale est inadaptée et décide d'établir une nouvelle capitale de l'autre côté du fleuve. Par son commandement royal, un palais a été construit pour servir non seulement de résidence mais aussi de site de bureaux administratifs. Le complexe royal est connu depuis sous le nom de Palais royal. Les deux premiers bâtiments érigés à l'intérieur du complexe étaient la salle du trône Dusit Haha Prasat et le Phra Maha Monthian.

I hired a guide who unfortunately didn't speak very good English, I hardly understood the explanation of the place, although she was kind. And the temple was beautiful.

I opted for this service, because wrangling kids out the door is hard enough. We paid about twice what the simple tickets would be. Our driver had trouble finding us even though we were standing outside the address I provided (and confirmed) and he wasn't particularly friendly. The person we were meeting to take is into the palace was late, so the driver had to drive around the block then told us to hurry and get out of the car (because it wasnt a stopping area). The lady who brought us inside rushed us through the front area, took a quick family picture then took off. Previous to this they had suggested we pay for a tour (up selling). Last, after I checked my phone again I see I had received several messages from the tour operator saying the driver couldn't find us and would wait "five more minutes". These were sent up to a half hour after we actually got into the car. Not really a good value for the money we spent.

The driver was very communicative in advance of the visit and turned up before the departure time, was ready and waiting. She provided helpful and useful information about the local area and where to go at the Palace. She gave me the ticket and showed me where to go. Great service, would definitely recommend.
