Le Musée rend hommage à la mémoire des 29 Uruguayens qui ont péri dans les Andes en 1972, lorsque leur avion s'est écrasé alors qu'il se dirigeait de Montevideo à Santiago du Chili. Cette exposition est également dédiée aux 16 boursiers «qui ont retrouvé la vie» après avoir vécu 72 jours infernaux dans les pires conditions imaginables. (voir film et / ou livre: "Alive") L'exposition comprend des images, des documents, des effets personnels et des débris d'avion, entre autres éléments pertinents. Une chronologie fournit un compte rendu au jour le jour des événements qui se sont déroulés dans la «vallée des larmes», au cours de ces 72 jours sans fin.

Le musée est situé dans un bâtiment du XIXe siècle dans le centre-ville historique de Montevideo, qui a été déclaré patrimoine national. L'exposition comprend des photos, des documents, des effets personnels et des débris d'avion, entre autres éléments pertinents. Une chronologie fournit un compte rendu quotidien des événements qui ont eu lieu dans la «Vallée des larmes», ainsi que des événements importants qui se sont produits en même temps dans d'autres parties du monde, pendant ces interminables 72 journées. 400 mètres carrés, 40 panneaux bilingues, 30 armoires, plusieurs écrans et debries originaux, vous montre tous les faits pertinents sur cette histoire unique de survie. Beautiful experience. I went to spend my birthday in Montevideo and chose this city mainly to go and see the Museum. It's very complete and exciting to be there.
The exhibition is impacting. You can feel the suffering, despair and the terrible cold that the survivors faced. But with their strength, unity, and courage they went in search of a miracle! I cried a lot reading the letters to the family, makes us reflect a lot, how fragile life is!
It is a museum that explains in great detail what the survivors and the deceased experienced in the tragedy of the Andes. The stories, the wreckage of the plane, the personal belongings... everything that's on site is really moving. Also everything dedicated to the Chilean muleteer who was the first to find them. Rarely when you go to a museum do you experience so many emotions.
Even if you are not familiar with this incredible story of the 1972 plane crash & survival in the Andes this museum is well worth a visit. I read 'Alive' by Piers Paul Read in my early twenties so I knew a lot of what transpired. The exhibits are excellent & there are so many personal items belonging to the crash survivors as well. In the basement there is a chamber that re-creates the temperatures the crash victims experienced during their enforced stay on the mountain. Well worth a visit
