Description

Fantastic Tour

This tour was both educational and entertaining. My husband and I have been fans of the Deadliest Catch tv show so it was a real treat to be on one of the boats that was on the show. The three men who shared their knowledge and experience of fishing in Alaska were excellent story tellers. I highly recommend this tour.

Are you crabby? This is the cruise for you!

What a great experience! We got the upgraded tour that included 1/2 lb of crab onboard and it was so good and worth it! The tickets for 2 adults were $598 but this was a once in a lifetime excursion. The 3 hour tour (unlike Gilligan’s Island) was long enough for us to hear stories from Captain Ron, Dave, and Big D about their experiences as deep sea fishermen. They pulled up a cage with lots of Box crabs in it. Another cage was for king crab, but they don’t keep those, them are given to the Native people in thanks for them allowing them to crab in their waters. There was a tank in the middle of the ship with crab, sea urchins, starfish and an octopus that you could hold if you dared. There was also a little gift shop as well as 3 restrooms that were heated if you needed to warm up but we had a gorgeous day.

Best experience

Since we are long time Deadliest Catch fans we decided we had to go on this. It did not disappoint! We totally enjoyed all of the excursion. Besides getting to hold a couple of crab for pictures we went by islands on the way out and watched Eagles swoop in and catch Herring the crew threw out. This definitely was worth it.

Worth it!

Early tour scheduled, signage was vague and no representatives present to direct people to tour. Be that as it may, Big D, Andy and the captain were outstanding. Truly enjoyed their stories, knowledge and Hospitality. Very much enjoyed the presentations and hands on activities. Very much worth it and I give this tour my highest recommendation!

Crabbing on the Aleutian Ballad in Ketchikan

I am a great fan of the Deadliest Catch. They explained all of what it is to be a crab fisherman on the Bering Sea. Dave and Andy were great explaining how they became crab fisherman. The hands on portion seeing up close the crabs, octopus and other sea creatures like starfish and shrimp and sea cucumbers was really interesting. I never thought we would be able to handle real crabs. The ship was under a roof for rain and they had rain coats if you needed one. The tour is great for all ages.

Enjoyed this tour

Really enjoyed the tour. I watched "Deadliest Catch". This boat looks much smaller but maybe due to the added seating Lived there was time to pause and look at animals/nature. Eagles and sealions. There was an octopus in the trap they hauled up. Crew was very informative and great.

Holy Cow I Mean Wildlife!

Holy cow!! What a fun experience. Not only were the Captain and officers experienced, they were funny too!! It rained on us and they provided raincoats for anyone who wanted one. We got to see bald eagles, seals and even a whale breaking the surface and blowing. These people have such deep knowledge and respect for this land and sea. No wonder this excursion is rated #1! It was completely full - even on a rainy and chilly day. My hats off to all involved in the morning on the Aleutian Ballad. If you’re a fan of Deadliest Catch, this is not to be missed!

Recommend Not Booking This

Just not worth the cost…mostly fisherman explaining how they got into the industry and how they ended up on a tourist boat. Don't get me wrong, they were entertaining and nice guys but it just wasn’t anything special. The tour consisted mostly of a few staged demonstrations involving fake crab or sea creatures stored in on board tanks. The whole thing felt very cheesy and unnecessary. The constant upsells for food, merch, and their book also got old really quick. After an hour we were checking our watches hoping we were close to the end.

Réponse de l'opérateur

We apologize that the excursion was not what you expected. The description explains that the excursion consists of stories being told by those who spent their life in the Bering Sea. The sea life is also mentioned that they are in the touch tank. If you have any feedback to how we can alter the description to what was received, please let us know.
