Worst day in perou

I am absolutely stunned by how terrible my experience was with the Belmond Hiram Bingham train. For a service that markets itself as “luxury,” what I encountered was a shocking lack of transparency, professionalism, and basic respect for travelers. Coming from Europe, I purchased a $570 ticket directly through Belmond’s official website. The way the experience is presented strongly suggests that access to Machu Picchu is included. Yet I received no email, no warning, no clear information stating otherwise — nothing. Only upon arriving at Poroy station was I abruptly informed that my ticket did not include the entrance to Machu Picchu, although I was still invited to “board the train anyway.” Let’s be honest: taking a luxury train to a destination you are not allowed to enter is completely pointless. The staff at the station were cold, dismissive, and condescending, repeatedly implying that the mistake was mine, when in reality the issue comes from Belmond’s own misleading communication. They even suggested that I should “stay overnight” and “maybe try again tomorrow,” which turned out to be entirely untrue. The train left without me — because there is absolutely no reason to sit in a luxury carriage if you cannot access Machu Picchu upon arrival. And here’s the part that proves how misleading their information was: Just minutes after the train departed, my hotel concierge managed to secure an entrance ticket immediately. This shows that the instructions given by Belmond staff were not only wrong, but needlessly stressful and completely misleading. To make the experience even worse, Belmond has refused to refund me, despite the fact that I could not use the service and that the entire situation was created by their lack of transparency. To illustrate how absurd this situation is, imagine buying a ticket to visit the Eiffel Tower, only to be told upon arrival: “You didn’t read the fine print — the ticket doesn’t include the elevator. You can enter the building, but you can’t go up. Stay overnight and maybe tomorrow you’ll get access.” No traveler would accept this in Paris, London, New York — and it should not be acceptable here either. In my view, this is clear misleading advertising. The service described online does not match the reality on site. It feels deceptive, irresponsible, and absolutely unacceptable. I lost an entire day of my trip, experienced unnecessary stress and frustration, and was left with a deeply negative impression of what should have been a highlight of my visit to Peru. For a company operating in the luxury sector, this level of disorganization and disregard for customers is simply shocking. I strongly advise future travelers to be extremely cautious.

SPECTACULAR

An unforgettable walk. Who wants to go to machupichu with comfort, sophistication and luxury, I indicate too this train. A special highlight for the care of absolutely ALL employees, all! But I must emphasize the care of Lizbeth and Thelma (our guide). Liz did not remove the smile from her face, she was always willing to answer any request from us and other travellers. A Thelma foi nossa guia. What a spectacular guide. Patient, cheerful, intelligent... gave us a true lesson of history about machupichu. At the end of the tour, Thelma accompanied us to the hotel where we would sleep in warm waters. I have absolutely Nothing negative to score. We have never been so well served in tourism. Worth every penny! Congratulations to the whole Belmond team.

WE CELEBRATE RETURN OF MACHUPICCHU

After two days in Machupicchu our return to Cusco was by this Train Service. It was a nice surprise to tell at our table a bottle of champagne that we shared with the travelers of the car. The musical show was motivating and contagious, which most passengers participated singing and dancing in the Bar car. As the trip was afternoon-night, the Show was a wonderful experience that we didn’t feel the travel time and surprisingly we were already at Belmont Station. I recommend this train service

Spectacular

Spectacular experience from beginning to end. Service was impeccable, food was amazing, top notch views, live music, and delicious local cocktails such as Pisco sour & "a Peruvian cosmo". If you're thinking of a way to get from cusco to machu picchu, this is your sign to book the Hiram Bingham.

Worth the money

Well worth the money. The folks working the train take such great care of you and really go above and beyond to make your trip memorable. Food was outstanding and the service was perfect. Everything was perfectly timed and planned. Bus is waiting for you when you arrive and then you are right into Machu Picchu with a guided tour. Afternoon tea at the Belmont was also fantastic. My wife and I were very glad we chose this option to get to and from Machu Picchu.

Pamper yourself on a long day

Day is long. They picked us up at 6:40 and we got home at 22:00. But we ate, drank, sang, danced, laughed and saw Machu Picchu and came back full and happy. The level of service is what you would expect with the price. EVERYONE and I sincerely mean EVERYONE who worked on this trip was cheerful, polite, competent. Madai and Cesar in the train restaurant as well as the bartender whose name I didn’t get were top notch. Our guide Carlos took us in a small group of 8 to Machu Picchu and he gave us great information and didn’t rush. He was with us all day and knew my name. The day starts with a pick up at your hotel then a drop off at a bus where you ride to a train station. At the train station there is a snack, music playing, local dancing. NEVER was anyone looking for a tip - again a class operation. Henry the manager was also with us all day and attended to everyones needs. At this train station you board the special upscale Hiram Binham train with a lovely dining car (cloth tablecloths) very nice bar (all drinks are included) and a room past the bar where you can get in the open air for photos. The organization was good. The musicians who played in the bar are were excellent - great mix of rock and spanish music and knew every song anyone requested. By the return trip the group was dancing and singing and refused to go to dinner without another song. The two meals were abundant and well prepared. Here again - excellent service and you could request a different meal if you wanted to. The train gets as far as Aguas Calientes then you have a bus (short ride) to the entrance to Machu Picchu. If you want to spend many hours in Machu Picchu this is not your trip. We only spent 2.5 - 3 hours at the site. It was enough for us. We also had some rain but that is beyond control. You feel very pampered and VIP on this trip. I liked t!
