En 1782, le roi Rama Ier déplaça la capitale de Thonburi à Bangkok et construisit le Grand Palais adjacent au Wat Pho. En 1788, il ordonna la construction et la rénovation du site du vieux temple de Wat Pho, devenu alors délabré. Le site, marécageux et accidenté, fut asséché et rempli avant le début des travaux. Au cours de sa construction, Rama I a également lancé un projet visant à supprimer les images de Bouddha des temples abandonnés d’Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, ainsi que d’autres sites en Thaïlande. Un grand nombre de ces images de Bouddha ont été conservées à Wat Pho. Le Wat Phra Si Sanphet d’Ayuthaya, détruit par les Birmans en 1767, a été intégré à un chedi dans le complexe. La reconstruction a duré plus de sept ans. En 1801, douze ans après le début des travaux, le nouveau complexe du temple a été renommé Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklavas.
Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan est un temple bouddhiste situé dans le district de Bangkok Yai à Bangkok, en Thaïlande, sur la rive ouest de Thonburi de la rivière Chao Phraya. Le temple tire son nom du dieu hindou Aruna, souvent personnifié par les radiations du soleil levant. Wat Arun est l'un des sites les plus connus de la Thaïlande. La première lumière du matin se reflète sur la surface du temple avec une irisation nacrée. Bien que le temple existe depuis au moins le dix-septième siècle, ses prangs distinctifs ont été construits au début du XIXe siècle sous le règne du roi Rama II.

Great tours and great guide A must-do
Everything was excellent. Our guide, Mina is great
This was a great way to explore the temples. Our guide (Sunny) was really good and kept things moving at a good pace. Our tour included a tuk tuk ride and boat ride together with walking. Just to note that this is a reasonably long tour (5 ish hours) and does not include a food stop). Having said that, a number of people, that had not read the information sent, did request a stop for lunch and our guide accommodated this (with the buy in of all participants) and took us to a local eatery where the food was very good and very inexpensive. We particularly liked Wat Pho (the reclining Buddha). Our guide was also very good at making sure everyone was able to get back to their hotels. Just to note, this tour does not end where it starts but the end location is right at a taxi station, tuk tuk station and the underground/metro. We would highly recommend this tour.

It was just the two of us on a personal tour. I was also very familiar with Japanese history and it was easy to understand the explanation while comparing with Thailand
