Jadis capitale du royaume siamois (1351-1767), le parc historique d'Ayutthaya est classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO où temples en ruine et bouddhas sans tête racontent l'histoire d'une civilisation perdue à cause de l'invasion birmane. Ne manquez pas l'emblématique tête de Bouddha, enlacée à jamais dans des racines de banian. À Damnoen Saduak, le marché flottant est un spectacle vivant : des bateaux en bois entassés en hauteur avec des fruits tropicaux, des épices et de la cuisine de rue tissent dans des canaux étroits. La culture du commerce des canaux en Thaïlande remonte aux environs du XIVe siècle, à l'époque du royaume d'Ayutthaya (1351–1767), lorsque les voies navigables étaient les principales routes pour le commerce et la vie quotidienne. Vient ensuite le marché ferroviaire de Maeklong, qui ne ressemble à rien d’autre au monde. La ligne de chemin de fer date de 1905, construite pour relier les villages de pêcheurs côtiers à Bangkok. Au fil du temps, les vendeurs installent des stands directement sur les voies. Aujourd'hui, un véritable train de banlieue se faufile encore huit fois par jour, alors que les tenanciers d'étals reculent tranquillement leurs auvents à quelques centimètres de leur passage.

My family of five had a wonderful full-day tour with our guide, Shirley. She was incredibly accommodating and shared fascinating stories about each site we visited. The ride was comfortable, and our driver met us at the entrance of every stop, so we didn’t have to walk far in the heat. The train market and floating market were such fun experiences for the whole family. The temples and historical sites in Ayutthaya were absolutely breathtaking and completely exceeded our expectations.

Amazing experience! The floating market and train market excursion was one of the highlights of our trip to Thailand. Watching the train pass right through the market was unforgettable, and the floating market was full of unique souvenirs, and local charm, what an experience to do shopping while floating on a boat! Everything was well organized, and our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Thailand!
