This experience was so much fun and well organized. We were picked up directly from our hotel by Gabriela, who provided all kinds of fascinating conversations about Colombia and Bogota on the way to the horses. Riding the horses was such an easy experience as the horses are well trained and work well together in a group. At the top of the hike, the views were breathtaking and Gabriela told us about the history of La Calera, the forest, and the reservoir. Afterwards, we rode back down the trail and finished with a warm tasty sugar drink. On the way back, Gabriela provided us with amazing recommendations to experience the best of Bogota before dropping us back to our hotel. This trip is perfect for anyone looking for an organized excursion to get some scenic views and experience the thrill of horseback riding in the Andes. Muchas gracias to Gabriela for being the best tour guide!
Such incredibly well behaved horses and a wonderful guide who did an excellent job of sharing some local history of the area with us. Big fan of the tea at the end!
We’re really happy to hear you enjoyed your morning in the Andes and felt well taken care of throughout the ride. It’s especially nice to know the guide’s stories about the local area added something extra to the experience. We always feel the landscape is even more meaningful when you understand a bit of its history and culture. And you're right...that warm, local treat does feel pretty perfect after time out in the fresh mountain air!
Never been on a horse before , it was easy enough the horses were really easy going. It was a bit dull, the horses walk really slow, faster than walking yourself for sure, but it was about 45 mins riding up hill , then it was a stunning view at the top, was there for about 10 mins hear some facts about Colombia water etc. then ride back to the bottom of the hill. Not sure the horses are living their best life. Horse welfare is definitely different to European standards - they were tied to eachothers tails which was a bit odd!
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re very glad to hear you enjoyed the scenery and felt comfortable with the horses during your ride. We also appreciate your reflection regarding European standards. When traveling, it’s natural to notice differences in local traditions and practices. Here in the Andes, horseback riding is shaped by the terrain, rural culture and generations of experience working with creole horses in mountain environments. These are not lesser standards, but different ones! Adapted to our landscapes and ways of life. The tail-guiding method you noticed is a technique often used to help keep spacing and stability on narrow trails, particularly with inexperienced riders but also to transport the horses efficiently from their feeding grounds to the trails. Local horses feed from fresh, green grass year around but they need to be moved as they finish one lot and go to the next. In northern countries with season, animals are fed in barns so they do not have to be moved daily. To inexperienced riders, moving horses can seem odd, but it has been done for hundreds of years safely and with the most care in the Andes mountains. Our focus is always on safety, animal care and creating an enjoyable experience for riders of all levels. We are a family-run ecotourism company working closely with local horsemen who care deeply for their animals and their work because ultimately we all depend on each other and everyone's wellbeing. We’re glad you enjoyed the views at the top, and we truly appreciate you joining us and sharing your perspective.
I am not a horse person, I’ve only sat on one for 10 mins before this, but these horses were really easy and well behaved, the view at the top was great!
Thank you for your review! We’re really happy to hear that even with very little previous horseback riding experience, you felt comfortable during the tour and were able to enjoy the adventure. The mountain views are definitely one of the highlights of this experience, and there’s something special about seeing the Andes from horseback at a peaceful pace. We’re glad the horses helped make the ride feel easy and enjoyable for you. Thanks again for joining us in the mountains outside Bogotá!
So much fun! Gabby our tour guide was fantastic, very friendly and knowledgable. The horses were well behaved and it was a great way to see a little of the countryside.
Thank you so much for your kind review! We’re thrilled to hear you had so much fun exploring the Andes with us. Gabriela will be very happy to know she helped make your experience memorable. She loves sharing the beauty, culture, and nature of the Bogotá region with our guests. We’re also glad you enjoyed the horses and the peaceful mountain scenery. Our goal is to create an authentic and enjoyable experience for riders of all levels while showcasing the incredible landscapes of the Colombian Andes. We’d love to welcome you back again for another adventure in the mountains someday!
This was such a fun activity. Our tour guide, Gabi, was so nice and did a great job explaining the scenery along the ride. It felt like a bucket list activity and I would recommend it to everyone.
Wonderful!it was so fun!Diego was amazing!really recommend
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Had an amazing half-day horseback riding tour on the outskirts of Bogotá. Diego was a fantastic guide — friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what he does. The horses were calm and well cared for, and the scenery was beautiful with wide open countryside and mountain views. It was the perfect escape from the city and one of the highlights of my time in Colombia. Highly recommend!
You're in for a treat. Super cool experience. The horses are super docile and Diego is on his A-game as the tour guide. Will be booking again.
I booked the tour with Andes Eco Tours, and everything was well organized from the beginning. I was picked up directly from my hotel in Bogotá and driven to La Calera, which made the whole experience very easy and comfortable. When I arrived, the horses were already prepared and ready. We started the ride right away, and the tour lasted about 3 hours with breathtaking viewpoints almost the entire way. There were plenty of opportunities for good galloping, which made the ride especially fun and exciting. My guide Diego was very friendly and informative, sharing a lot about the area, nature, and local plants throughout the ride, which made the experience even more interesting. I felt safe and comfortable during the trip, and the scenery was absolutely stunning. It was a fantastic way to experience the mountains just outside the city. A big thank you to Diego and the owner Andes for a great experience - highly recommended for anyone visiting Bogotá and wanting a memorable horseback adventure!
