We had a lovely smooth cruise. Staff was wonderful and food was good! Captain Emily was great and pointed out turtles and dolphins for us to see. Great on-board photography too.
The ride out of the harbor was very windy, but once out of the harbor we were very comfortable. The food was super good and the service from everyone on board was excellent.
Second time with PACWHALE Dinner Cruise and again it was a great crew. Perfect weather with a sunset. Drinks were very good and it lasted the full 2 1/2 hours. Titus our waiter was above and beyond making sure we were taken care of. Cost is a little high but some of the fee does go towards a worthy cause. Be prepared to pay for parking going out of Maalaea Harbor.
Friendly and informative staff. Beautiful views! Dinner was delicious and served in a calm cove. Very enjoyable!
Despite the wind, it was a great time. Skipper worked his way through wind and rough seas to find a nice, smoother spot for us to enjoy dinner. Food was very nice, service was excellent. A great way to enjoy the sunset with someone special. Just keep your sense of humor about the weather!
OK...so for reals... THE GOOD: Crew was awesome, friendly, funny, appropriately dressed and helpful. The vessel was in good shape, safe and large for groups. The food was very good...not great/stellar, but very good, we all had the Braised Rib...I saw other plates...they did NOT look great...so get the Rib! It was filling. The watermelon salad was like a caprese style salad with tomato, feta cheese and balsamic...so if you're a fan of Caprese with their twist...you'll like this one...don't wear white...lots of dark colored food! The brownie dessert was simple, nothing to write about...or have again. Sights were great and the sunset was as it should be! Everyone was casual, don't worry about coming nice if you don't have the gear...shorts and thongs are just fine! THE BAD: - ADA may have a tough time if you're larger or can't be mobile...just as most vessels. - Four Courses -- unless they count the bread/butter as the 1st course, this is a 3-course dinner; NOT 4 - They had NO Whisk(e)y/Bourbon at all! Big NO-NO! Only Tequila, Rum, Gin and maybe another option...this WILL impact my future group/charter bookings! - They did NOT pass by Molokini Crater OR Lanai as ADVERTISED...and when I asked the staff/Captain about this, they laughed it off as being too far. We booked this sunset dinner cruise specifically since it stated we were PASSING by those two and we had not seen it on our trip...we only went a few miles outside the harbor...so BIG disappointment and a lot of let down from the beginning after the Bourbon/Whiskey issue. - Crew was pushy about gratuity. Good servers should NEVER ask for gratuity and be more low key about it. This devalues the luxury experience. Good travelers know to tip. Seller should add this in their description about "suggested gratuities" or simply add it the price in if they are not seeing it from travelers. - Weather was VERY windy, but not really in the control of the Captain, but still could have been planned ahead! - Photographer on board is expensive! Take your own photos or be prepared to spend $50-$150 for digital package! - Dessert was not good...they need work on this. - The other plates (shrimp mainly) looked really bare...maybe a handful of shrimp...you'd need more on a plate for sure! They need to fix this 100% very quickly! Get the braised rib! - This is ALL outdoor in an open-air deck...nothing is inside, your hair WILL get messed up. You will NOT have a way to sit inside with some shelter...so plan ahead! - No music, all others offered music! - Things may fly around and away, they need to find a way for HEAVY plates and dining equipment as this caused some issues and we spent time just trying to hold stuff down. My review of 3-stars is mainly for the OPERATOR of the company, not the actual staff. They MUST do better and elevate or provide better quality beverage options, better servings, more flavor and better desserts...on top of DELIVERING on the promises advertised for a premium price above 90% of the other operators. I MAY come back with my groups/charters...but NOT until they fix the issues that they heavily advertised and then dropped the ball on...or simply didn't even try to execute. This was a $90-$115 ticket...not worth the $170+/pp (adults) we paid. We expected a premium product and were given a "Carnival" experience. For now...I would NOT recommend this tour at this price point, with the failure to deliver as advertised; and the mediocre food execution. It has a LOT of potential, but the Operator is nowhere near the staff's service acumen...which is unusually ironic. The staff deserve better in this particular situation as they are 95%+ on their game...but the Operator is maybe 50% at best. If they can retain the staff and the Operator can improve their deliverables...this could easily be worth the price point, but as it stands today...no dice. My clients would be asking for refunds!!
Food was good and staff took good care of us. It was great to share a sunset dinner with my wife on our honeymoon.
Great last minute sunset cruise option for us! Beautiful views and weather. Food was great! The service by Marisa was exceptional!!
It is very windy, VERY windy. The food was decent and the overall experience was worth it as a once in a lifetime event. The sunset was amazing and views were spectacular. The servers were a bit confused on the table assignments so our drinks were late and we had to ask a few times who our server was so we could actually get drinks. They did a good job serving while managing high winds and rocky waters. Overall I would recommend it if you enjoy being on the water.
This is an absolute waste of money. Dinner was cold and bland. Dinner rolls were stale, Watermelon salad was good, shrimp main course came out cold and really lacked flavor. Desert was store bought brownie with whipped cream. Photographer tries to get pictures then charge $75 for them (not surprised but still). Overall I would rather spend the money or less at a number of restaurants and get the same views. We were constantly asking for water refills and waiting forever to get them.
Aloha and thank you for taking the time to let us know about your disappointing experience on the sunset dinner cruise. I am so sorry to hear about such an experience, but I thank you for taking the time to bring it to our attention as we take all such direct feedback from guest s very seriously, good or bad. I am certainly disappointed to hear of such an experience on this extremely highly rated experience. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at johngaskins@pacwhale.com and I will be happy to process a full refund. We want all of our guests to have an amazing time, but make every effort to make it right when that doesn't happen. I look forward to hearing from you, so that I can determine which night this occurred so that we can deal with it internally. Mahalo for your time.
