L'observation des oiseaux autour de Kigali est une introduction à la faune aviaire d'Afrique de l'Est car ces endroits sont un mélange d'habitats comprenant des prairies, des zones humides et des lacs (étangs). L'observation d'oiseaux dans l'un (ou tous) des sites mentionnés est une introduction aux oiseaux du Rwanda et vous avez également l'occasion de voir des oiseaux rares comme l'Olivier à collier blanc, le Papyrus Gonolek et le Papyrus Canary.

Itinéraire
Nous avons une observation de 3 heures dans le parc écotouristique des zones humides urbaines de Nyandungu principalement pour voir des oiseaux. Nyandungu est une zone humide récemment restaurée dans la ville de Kigali; il est situé à 1,5 km de l'aéroport international de Kigali et à seulement 25 minutes en voiture du centre-ville. Plus de 100 oiseaux ont été observés dans cette région parmi d'autres oliviers à collier blanc, des apalis à poitrine jaune, des Barbets à doubles dents, etc.
Umusambi est un nom kinyarwanda signifiant Grue à couronne grise. Le village est un sanctuaire nouvellement créé pour sauver la population de la Grue à couronne de Gra du commerce illégal des animaux de compagnie. Avantagés par la protection du site, de plus en plus d'oiseaux viennent se nourrir et se reproduire. De nombreuses espèces de Martins-pêcheurs, c'est-à-dire Pieds, Malachites et Pygmées africains utilisent des étangs d'eau créés comme source de nourriture. Nous passons 2 à 3 heures du matin à faire le tour du sanctuaire avant notre pause déjeuner.
Les zones humides de Bugesera, en particulier celles de Gashora, abritent des espèces de papyrus et d'oiseaux aquatiques. Ces endroits abritent Papyrus Gonolek, Papyrus Canary, Carruther's Cisiticola et des troupeaux d'Ibis brillants. Vous pouvez avoir une matinée ou un après-midi à cet endroit pour voir les oiseaux les plus humides de la région de l'Afrique de l'Est.

We had the chance to go on a birding tour in Kigali, and to say it was wonderful is an understatement. Our guide, Joseph, was amazing, so knowledgeable but most of all, incredibly passionate. His love for birds and conservation is truly contagious. We enjoyed spending the day with him and our driver, Alex, so so much. We only wished we had more time to absorb more knowledge. If you like birds, book this tour, you will not regret it. If you don’t like birds, you should also book this tour, I’m sure you’ll like them by the end. I can’t stress enough how amazing Joseph was. We are so happy we found this tour, and honestly can’t wait to come back and go birding with him again. We were able to identify over 60 different species of birds. Thank you so so much, we truly loved it.

The Guide is very knowledgable, he knows all the Bird names by heart, knows where to look for them and points out facts and behaviour. Wonderful landscape, too. Take a raincoat during rain season 🙃 Pick up, drop off and Lunch Break worked well, too.

Claudien proved to be a punctuel and seriously expert birder, equipped with quality binocs and scope and call recordings and deep familiarity with the species of the area. He is flexible and easy company. The urban wetland is perfect for birding: paved pathway cutting through marshes, ponds, and woodlands, litter'free, uncrowded, and secure.

This was an unplanned trip for me whilst at a conference in Kigali. I had an extra day free before heading back home. Claudien made himself available and organized a great day in the wetlands. I cannot recommend Birding and Educational Tours enough! The experience far exceeded my expectations. Claudien’s expertise in identification of local species, and knowledge of where to find them, was invaluable. We managed to see 69 different species including some rare sightings. Booking was easy, the tour started on time, lunch was lovely, and the birding locations were excellent. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe throughout. It was also wonderful to have the opportunity to support a local business. Claudien went above and beyond to ensure I was able to get the most from the experience.

I had a great time with Claudien, a knowledgeable and academically-trained birdwatcher. I saw about 40 species of birds in a day in large part due to his expertise. I would happily choose other tours with this team.
