Whilst this is a long day from Auckland, it was thoroughly enjoyable. The caves are interesting and the guides are fun. The Maori village gives you some interesting insight into their culture, and the Geysers were amazing. Our guide Chris, drove safely and gave us plenty of breaks to stretch our legs. He was punctual as well. The lunch was generous enough. We are glad we did this trip.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this — it’s such a pleasure to read. I know it’s a long day out from Auckland, so it really means a lot to hear that you found it thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. It’s great that you enjoyed the caves and had some fun with the guides there — they do such a good job of making the experience memorable. And I’m really glad the Māori village and geysers stood out for you as well, they’re such special parts of the experience and offer a real glimpse into the culture and natural beauty here. Chris will be so happy to hear your kind words — he takes a lot of pride in making sure everyone feels comfortable, safe, and well looked after throughout the day, so it’s lovely to hear that came through, especially with the pacing and breaks along the way. Also great to know the lunch hit the spot! Thanks again for choosing to travel with us — we’re so glad you did this trip and hope we might see you again sometime.
We had a fantastic experience on this tour, and a huge part of that was our driver, Jason. He was truly outstanding — funny, knowledgeable, and incredibly engaging throughout the day. In fact, I enjoyed his company so much that I booked another tour with him later that week. He also gave us excellent dinner recommendations, which turned out to be spot on. The bus ride is on the longer side, but Jason made it feel easy. He was a confident, safe driver, and kept things interesting with commentary along the way. As for the tour itself, it was really well done. The Waitomo Caves were a very cool and unique experience — definitely something special to see. But for me, the highlight was the Māori village. It felt immersive, thoughtful, and genuinely memorable. Overall, a great tour made even better by an exceptional guide.
Thank you so much for such a thoughtful review — it’s really great to read. Jason will be absolutely thrilled to hear this. He puts a lot into making the day enjoyable, not just with his knowledge but with his sense of humour and the way he connects with people, so it’s fantastic to hear how much you enjoyed his company (and that you even booked another tour with him — that says it all!). We’ll definitely pass on your kind words to him. It’s also nice to hear the journey felt easy despite the distance. A long drive can make or break a day, and having someone who keeps things relaxed, informative, and fun along the way makes a big difference. We’re really glad you enjoyed both parts of the tour as well. The Waitomo Caves are such a unique experience, but the Māori village often leaves a lasting impression for exactly the reasons you mentioned — it’s immersive, genuine, and gives a real sense of connection. Thanks again for taking the time to share this. We’re so pleased it was such a memorable day for you.
Our guide Wayne was phenomenal. His driving was smooth, he drove by several historical and natural sites not mentioned on the tour description as an added bonus, and was exceptionally knowledgeable when it came to NZ history and landmarks. Whakarewarewa Māori Village was eye opening. The chief/guide was has so much knowledge and passion to share. Hāngī was great! They boil the sweet corn and served it as part of the tour, but I also tried the hāngī beer pie as well. The thermal vents and geyser were spectacular and the Haka performance was nothing short of moving. From here we rendezvoused with Wayne and were off to Waitomo. The original site for the picnic lunch was thoroughly occupied. Fortunately, he already knew an alternative site. The lunch itself was a chicken Caesar wrap, chips, apple, and juice. Wayne pointed out some fun sites (giant Kiwi statues and the like) en route to Waitomo. Waitomo Caves was stunning. When you first arrive, you watch an informative video, then embark. The first leg of the experience does not allow photos or video due to sensitivity of the wildlife. The final stretch does allow photography. Honestly though, there is something romantic about such an unplugged tour into such a natural wonder. We also saw some eels, which was super cool. For both sites, you have limited but adequate time to shop. The ride home home was more quiet (people were tired) and waters & muesli bars were offered. A little more knowledge was dropped. Overall, this was a long (12+hr) journey and worth every mile & every penny.
Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We’re really pleased to hear how much you enjoyed the day and that Wayne made it even more special with his knowledge, smooth driving, and little extras along the way. It’s great to know Whakarewarewa and Waitomo both left such a strong impression, and that the long day felt worth it in the end. We truly appreciate your kind words and hope to welcome you again.

I had a wonderful journey with our tour guide, Doug. First of all, the tour itself was amazing. I saw many beautiful blue and green glowworms in the Waitomo Caves, and then had an incredible cultural experience at the Māori village. I spent around two hours in the Māori village listening to their beautiful singing and dancing, and learning about their culture as a Māori guide showed us around the village. It was a long tour, but Doug was very patient, both in sharing his knowledge and in driving. I sincerely felt that Doug did his best to make sure we had a memorable experience on this journey. I would give both the tour and the tour guide a 10 out of 10.
Thank you so much for sharing such a thoughtful review. We’re really glad the day felt so special for you, from seeing the glowworms in Waitomo to spending meaningful time at the Māori village. That cultural experience, especially the singing, dancing, and stories shared by the local guide, really does stay with you. Doug will truly appreciate your kind words. It’s great to hear that his patience, driving, and knowledge helped make a long day feel enjoyable and memorable. We’re so happy you felt well looked after throughout the journey. A 10 out of 10 means a lot to us — thank you for trusting us with such an important experience.
Amazing expérience with Duck, very good guide !! A recommended this tour so muchhh to discober the cave or the village with the HAKA
Thank you so much for sharing this! We’re really glad you had such an amazing time with Doug — he’ll be happy to know his guiding made the experience even better. The caves and the village with the haka are truly special, and we really appreciate the recommendation!
Our guide Jaime was very kind helpful and informative. The caves and village were amazing! Wonderful experience, would recommend!
Thank you for sharing! We’re so glad you enjoyed the caves and the village — they really are special places. Jaime will be happy to hear you appreciated his help and insights. Thanks so much for the recommendation.
We had a very short two days in Auckland and I wanted to make sure and have a Māori experience while in NZ and it was a bonus to see the glowing worm caves on the same tour! It is a long day but worth it! Wayne our driver/guide was great! Very personable and funny and even made a couple unexpected bonus stops /photo ops for our group. There was a downpour at the Māori village but Wayne had umbrellas for us to use! Nice touch! FYI, there are a lot of stairs at Waitomo caves, this may be an issue for some folks. I would definitely recommend this tour to Rotorua!
Thank you so much for joining us, especially with only two days in Auckland — we’re really glad you got to experience both the Māori culture and the glowworm caves in one day. It is a long trip, so it means a lot that you felt it was worth it. Wayne will be so happy to hear your feedback! He genuinely enjoys adding little surprises and photo stops along the way, and I’m glad the umbrellas saved the day during that downpour at the village. And thanks for mentioning the stairs at Waitomo — that’s helpful for other travellers. We truly appreciate your recommendation and are so glad you had a memorable Rotorua experience with us. Hope we get to host you again one day!
Excellent! The excursions include breakfast tea (on-charge), Maori Village tour, battle dance performances, car breakfast box (on-charge), cave adventures and blueberries, boat and souvenir purchases, and guided tour recommendations!
Thank you so much for your review! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the full experience — from the morning tea and Māori cultural visit to the geothermal sights, haka performance, cave adventure, glow worms, and even the little shopping stops. It sounds like you made the most of the day, and we’re really happy our guide’s recommendations helped along the way. Thanks again for joining us!
Enjoyed visiting both sites. Aaron our driver and guide for the day is very knowledgeable about New Zealand and pointed out various places of interest along the way. I liked the 10 minute stops along the way! Added places for quick photo ops. He even brought water and a snack which was nice to have on the way back to the hotel. New Zealand is a beautiful country!
Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re so glad to hear you enjoyed both sites and had a great day exploring with Aaron. He really enjoys sharing his knowledge and showing guests all the little hidden gems along the way, so he’ll be thrilled to know you appreciated that. Those short stops for photos are such a nice way to take in the scenery, and we’re happy the small touches like water and snacks made the trip even more comfortable. New Zealand truly is a beautiful place, and it’s always a pleasure helping people experience it. Thanks again for joining us — we hope to see you back for another adventure one day!
