La cathédrale Saints-Pierre-et-Donatus est située sur la colline de San Pietro, dans la partie haute de la ville. Nous allons découvrir cet édifice étonnant, son histoire et quelques curiosités !
La basilique San Domenico est située sur la place du même nom à Arezzo et est l'un des édifices sacrés les plus importants de la ville. Sa construction a commencé en 1275 et s'est achevée au cours du XIVe siècle, grâce au financement des familles Ubertini et Tarlati, les deux familles les plus influentes pendant le Moyen Âge à Arezzo. En janvier 1276, bien qu'encore incomplète, l'église accueille ce qui est considéré comme le premier conclave de l'histoire de l'Église catholique.
Le musée Casa Vasari est une splendide résidence Renaissance située au cœur d'Arezzo. Il a été acheté et décoré personnellement par Giorgio Vasari, un célèbre peintre, architecte et historien de l’art, connu pour son œuvre fondamentale « Les vies des plus excellents peintres, sculpteurs et architectes ».
La basilique San Francesco d'Arezzo, avec sa façade inachevée, abrite un patrimoine artistique extraordinaire. Parmi les œuvres les plus célèbres, le cycle de fresques L'Histoire de la vraie croix de Piero della Francesca se distingue, un chef-d'œuvre universel qui décore la chapelle Bacci, commandée par la riche famille Arezzo qui a pris son nom.
La Piazza Grande, située dans le centre historique d'Arezzo, est un lieu emblématique et fascinant, connu pour sa forme trapézoïdale particulière et son plan incliné. La place remonte au XIIe siècle, mais a subi d'importantes transformations au XVIe siècle.
La Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta est une ancienne église baptismale urbaine, dont les origines remontent entre le Ve et le VIe siècle, peut-être construite sur les vestiges d'un édifice païen. Plus tard, vers le IXe siècle, une structure plus grande a été construite. Au XIIe siècle, cette église du haut Moyen Âge a également été démolie pour faire place à un nouvel édifice de style roman.
La forteresse Médicis d'Arezzo, située au cœur du parc Prato, représente l'un des exemples les plus importants de l'architecture militaire de la Renaissance en Toscane. Les origines de la forteresse remontent à la période médiévale, lorsque la région était déjà utilisée comme point stratégique pour le contrôle du territoire environnant.
Cet ouvrage, construit entre la fin du Ier siècle et la première moitié du IIe siècle de notre ère, reflète l'influence romaine sur la ville, déjà héritière de la civilisation étrusque. L'amphithéâtre a été conçu pour accueillir des spectacles de gladiateurs et des jeux publics avec une capacité allant jusqu'à 10 000 spectateurs. Découvrons son histoire !

Everything was fine; it was comprehensive.
We were very happy in the end with the tour even though we thought we would be meeting at a certain spot and get headsets. We were able to maneuver through the tour using our own telephone and Link that was provided. It was very nice to do this at our own pace
I strongly recommend to skip this company and find a better provider. Yesterday we used a different company for our day at Assisi and loved the experience. Today we decided to do an audio guide at Arezzo. Never again with this company. The narration was annoying with unnecessary background music. Ok. What really bothered us was: The webpage interface sucked. We could not scroll up to see the map or we would be kicked out, so that was a lot of wasted time. But the worst was that the guide sent you all over the place. Have a 2 minute summary of a place, most of them places you mérito pay to get in. No, I did not expect to be able to get in for free everywhere. But I think it was a waste of my time to walk all over the place just to see the outside of buildings. So I do not recommend this tour. There are better versions with better interface and better itineraries.
Hello, we’re sorry you didn’t like the guide. We find it a bit odd, actually, because… you also used our Assisi guide and you liked that one 😅! That one also had background music and the interface was exactly the same, so it’s really hard for us to respond to this review 🙂. I found myself very well, easy and intuitive to use, synthetic. I would buy it again if I had to do another day trip.
We learned & discovered so many fun historical facts by doing this walking tour. We also took the mini train, but we learned more walking on foot.
The audio tour was one of the highlights of our long weekend in Arezzo. Start at the Cathedral of Arezzo. Good explanation with a sense of humor. Good to listen to. The tour is like a puzzle tour, very fun to do. From birthplace, to beautiful square to fortified fortress, within 3 hours you are much wiser with beautiful background info. Matteo thanks
I think the guide included 7 key places around Arezzo but (with 4 kids in tow) it was really handy that we could dip in and out and pick and choose which ones to focus on and when. The information on each place was very informative but not too long and it was really useful to have the choice of listening and/or reading. We didn't manage to follow the route suggested but it looked really well thought out and logically planned. Considering how much information was included, and the useful map, I was impressed at the price and would definitely consider using this again.
Positive experience, the tour to Arezzo really interesting. The clear and exhaustive explanations. Tomorrow we will be in Siena and I plan to take the audlguida there too. Recommended
