Good value for a short tour. It was cool looking at the rudimentary production of boutique Mezcal. Ramy, our guide, was lovely and had lots of passion for his work and his country.
This was a really fun tour to an ancestral palenque! Our guide Ramy was a Mezcalero himself, so he knew all the ins and outs of the trade, from harvesting the piña to the aging process. Well worth it!
Ramy was an amazing host on our ancestral mezcal tour. He was very friendly, extremely knowledgeable and provided a great experience for our small group. It was great being able to do a private tour specifically tailored to us, including transport to and from the venue, a highly recommended tour to anyone interested in the more traditional mezcal distilling process 👌👌
Had an amazing experience on the Ancestro Mezcal Tour in Oaxaca with Rami Garcia. A truly fascinating and authentic tour from start to finish. Rami explained the history and traditions of mezcal in such an interesting and engaging way, and the full demonstration of how mezcal is made was incredible to see firsthand. Visiting a small farm with independent producers made the experience feel very genuine and personal. We also had the opportunity to taste several different bottles, each with its own unique character and story. Rami is extremely friendly, highly educated, very knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about mezcal and Oaxacan culture. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Oaxaca and wanting a real, authentic mezcal experience.

I recently took an ancestral mezcal tour with Mezcal Tour Experience, and it was truly one of the highlights of my trip! From start to finish, everything was thoughtfully organized, authentic, and incredibly engaging. Our guide, Ramy, was absolutely fantastic. His passion for mezcal and deep knowledge of the ancestral production process made the entire experience come alive. He didn’t just explain how mezcal is made — he shared the stories, traditions, and cultural significance behind every step. You can really feel how much he cares about preserving and honoring this craft. Visiting the palenques and seeing the traditional, ancestral methods up close was fascinating. Tasting the mezcal right at the source, while learning about the different agaves and techniques, gave me a whole new appreciation for the spirit. Each tasting felt intentional and educational, not rushed or commercial. If you’re looking for a meaningful, immersive, and delicious experience, I can’t recommend this tour enough. Ramy made it personal, fun, and unforgettable. This is a must-do for anyone who wants to truly understand mezcal beyond just drinking it! Five stars all the way! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We had an amazing experience with Ramy! He is incredibly enthusiastic, welcoming, and clearly very knowledgeable about mezcal. He was able to answer all of our questions. The location is perfect, close to Oaxaca City, and it was fascinating to see the entire production process from start to finish. The tasting was also a lot of fun to experience the different flavors and styles of mezcal. Highly recommended!
My private mezcal tour with Ramy Garcia was hands-down the highlight of my Oaxaca trip. We were picked up from our hotel at 9am, drove out to the fields, machete in hand, harvesting our own agave piña—an exhilarating, workout that left me with a whole new respect for the plant that takes 8-28 years to mature (depending on the variety of agave). Ramy then drove us to a family’s mezcalería in the Mitla area where we followed the piña production process through every step: the earthen pit oven, tahona crushing, open-air fermentation, and distillation in both copper and ancestral clay stills. The tasting that followed—seven wildly different mezcals, from silky espadín to smoky tepeztate—felt like a masterclass instead of a boozy lineup. Ramy’s Master’s degree in language education from the US shines through; his English is flawless. He also speaks French, and his mezcal-growers certificate means every technical detail is spot-on. He’s the rare guide who’s genuinely easy-going, quick with a joke and generous with stories about his family’s origins from the near extinct Chatino group (Oaxaca officially recognizes 16 indigenous groups) . If you want to understand mezcal instead of just drinking it, book Ramy yesterday.
This tour was so much fun and we learned a lot. Our host, Ramy, was very knowledgeable on the production of Mezcal. We had an amazing hands-on experience with the distillery process, a visit to the agave fields and tasting. I highly recommend this tour!
