La ville antique d'Éphèse est l'une des villes romaines les mieux entretenues au monde ; où visitent la plupart des croisiéristes ; était la capitale de l'Asie Mineure ; le centre commercial le plus important de l'Anatolie occidentale ; l'une des sept églises du christianisme en Asie Mineure ; la ville où prêchait saint Paul et qui fut mentionnée à plusieurs reprises dans le Nouveau Testament.
C'est le lieu où la Bienheureuse Marie a peut-être passé ses derniers jours. On estime que Marie est venue dans la région avec Saint Jean qui a passé plusieurs années à Éphèse pour propager le christianisme. Ici, le culte est toujours actif et a été déclaré sanctuaire pour les chrétiens. Les trois papes s'y sont rendus, Paul VI en 1967, Jean II en 1979 et enfin Benoît XVI en 2006.

This was a private tour for us and we enjoyed it. Our guide was so good. I’m happy with all but the mandatory “sales” stops. We saw beautiful things in the pottery, leather and carpet shops but I wasn’t a fan on the sales pressure.

Taylan was our amazing tour guide and . Resit was our driver extraordinaire. Taylan was knowledgeable and courteous. One of the best excursions we’ve done. The city of Ephesus is a hidden gem - you will be able to actually walk through the ruins, and touch the pillars, stones, walls etc unlike many archeological sites you may visit. The Virgin Mary’s home was another highlight and the grounds around are breathtaking. Our guide Berkay was amazing! All the info, history and sites he described in a very interesting and engaging way… we were able to hear the history, then experience the various sites we went to. Highly recommend this tour. The Turkish rug making stop was interesting, but do be prepared for the sales pitch - again small thing, but something to note.
