We wanted a guide that specializes in Huangshan instead of procuring from a large tourist agency in China. Upon researching and seeing much positive review on social media about Thomas Gao's + Huangshan, we engaged him. He speaks reasonable English . Thomas is very knowledgeable about Huangshan being born and bred there, and seem to know every detail. Most importantly is his passion in promoting this beautiful place and he is very proud of Huangshan. It is difficult to find passion in guides that treat this as just another job. Do not expect a lot of frills but you can be assured that he will put his guests interest first . He even helped with the booking of our bullet train connections beyond Huangshan in our journey. We spent just two nights there and are contemplating another trip to Huangshan, this time hiking into the interiors and spend more days to really slowly sink in the sceneries and experience. We have produced a short video on our trip with Thomas in Youtube, however it is against the policy of Trip Advisor to link it here. Search our handle "KCfaith" in Youtube, and you'll find the video titled "Discover Mount Huangshan in Spring". You'll have an idea how our trip went, the itinerary and get to know Thomas for your evaluation. Cheers.
Thanks to Luki and Yellowbird again! We have decided to take a short break and explore nature jewels close to Shanghai. So, the choice was Huangshan mountains. 2.5 days private tour, all perfectly arranged. Our guide Lucas was kind and helpful, we had an opportunity to explore old town, mountains and the ancient village. Too much positive emotions within a couple of days (well, could it be too much? ))). We were rather lucky with the weather - no rain, no fog, not much direct sunshine. We spent one night in the town and then one night on the top of the mountains. I can highly recommend a night on top - it is another world, another tempo. You are not in a rush to go up and down, you just enjoy. Yes, it is priced for basic facilities, but services and people wise, you would not regret. The nature and, especially, air is what we will always remember, though it was just 2.5 days. China is fantastic!
Thomas provided us a very good tour of Huangshan. He brought us to various places on Huangshan to take very nice and amazing pictures of Huangshan. He also explained to us clearly the nature of the sceneries on Huangshan. Thanks very much, Thomas.
Thomas was an amazing guide!! On the first day we went to hongcun village. No need to go to xidi, hongcun was enough. Hongcun is a maze!! Without Thomas it would be very hard to navigate. Thomas was very knowledgeable about the village and ancient customs. He also explained the meaning behind the words written on the plaque. He answered all our historical questions and more. He also brought us to a delicious dining place to eat dinner at. The dumplings and noodles were great! On the 2nd day we went to Huangshan mountain. We went to a local breakfast palace to eat that wasn't expensive. Very local and the food was amazing. He also gave us spiked shoes to wear as the mountain had ice and was slippery. If we had gone ourselves we would never have made it far into the mountain given that we didn't know you need spiked shoes. The tour was amazing and I wished I could have spend more time in huangshan. The car he took us was spacious we were travelling with 6 people. Best tour I been to in my life. I will come back to huangshan and tour with Thomas again. Highly recommend everyone book Thomas!!
Mr Gao was very reliable. He booked a mini bus for us to bring us around for 4 days. Very helpful with the luggage and knowledgeable with the facts of the places we went. Very fit as well. He could climb huangshan without perspiring or panting.
Escape to China's picturesque mountain and idyllic village - Hongcun which was listed in UNESCO. We are all in our 60s and we're hesitant about going to Huangshan. Fortunately we had Thomas Gao who is very experienced and patience and English speaking guide. A well planned trip and we enjoyed the 3 days to nights trip very much. Keep up your good work Thomas Gao.
It was a rainy day when we arrived in Huangshan in the early morning, we thought we could only stay in the hotel. Our guide, Thomas, suggested that we visit both ancient villages Hongcun and Xidi on the first day and go hiking to Huangshan summit on the other day. Thomas told us the history of both ancient villages, the stories about the houses, and the historical figures. We learnt a lot and am too excited to share all the amazing stories with our friends. We were lucky. The weather was fine when we hiked to the Huangshan summit. Thomas knows the mountain very well and knows all the good spots. He explained to us why the mountain looks so beautiful with some foggy. Thomas is a kind, understanding, and friendly person. He lent us the hiking sticks when he knew we didn't have it. He also took us to visit Tunxi old street before dropping us to the train station on our last day in Huangshan. His English is perfect, we had a great time. Our friends already asked for his contact information and are planning to go to Huangshan for their next trip. We highly recommend him.
Thomas is really amazing. He picked me up at the railway station and managed all i needed to do this tour in the yellow mountains. Thomas knows these mountains very well and knows the good spots and places. His English is perfect. I had lots of good conversations about our countries, nature and life. I really recommend him!!
We did a one day Hiking tour to the Yellow Mountains and a one day cultural walk to Hongcun Ancient Village with Guide Thomas. Thomas also picked us up and to took us back to the train station. The hiking day was just perfect and every thing went really smoothly as there were almost no queues this weekday. We did a very good size tour, 5 hours, getting up at the east of the mountain and down at the west, perfect for us. Hongcun was very interesting and Thoms shared many stories and took us to a local farmers restaurant. Food was delicious. You can ask for less oil on the traditional egg dish and it will be just perfect. Thomas has been timely, friendly and knowledgeable thru the whole trip. He loves to share stories and will do so. more than happily. We are happy to recommend his service.
