There are two Alcatraz Island tour options, but one is more expensive because it supposedly includes an “overnight” or “night” experience. We didn’t get anything extra for the higher price. The confusing part is that the last boat leaves around 6 PM, so there isn’t actually a nighttime activity or special overnight experience included. Everyone gets essentially the same service: a round-trip ferry ride to and from Alcatraz, with the National Park Service providing and arranging the audio tour. I also tried contacting Tripadvisor customer service to explain the situation and request a refund for the amount I overpaid, but they refused to issue a refund. So before paying extra for the “night” option, make sure you understand exactly what you’re getting. If there’s no additional nighttime activity, you may just be paying more for the same experience. Don’t get caught paying extra for something you don’t receive.

Decent tour, for the time and money.No problems with boarding or leaving. My wife scheduled the tour in the morning and my tickets were emailed and I was on the tour by 3:20, right on time.

It was bad I was not able to board the ferry because the 3rd party who I purchased it from did not put my name in the system for the Pier

Audio was confusing… had some to download on phone and then was given heady/audio at prison. Audio could have given more details about prisoners before going. Felt over priced for what it was. Do not think there was anything special about going at night.

The app for the audio tour is useless. They give headphones for audio once inside. Good experience for people that play Call of Duty.

This tour was definitely an eye opener. Very detailed on the truth we weren't aware before
It's amazing! Definitely bring a jacket because it was freezing and windy! I would recommend that you wear good shoes because its a long elevated walk! Also if you are handicapped or having trouble walking they provide a tram or golf cart !😊😊😊

When I purchased these tickets for my family, I was under the impression that we would see the usual day areas, as well as the hospital and showers. We did not. Not only that, but in the past, I was able to see the showers--not this time. I paid $20 more. After the self-guided audio tour, we were just left on our own. There were other areas we were able to see, but they were tricky to find. Only one real person was presenting at one of the stations. The rest of the locations were either videos or required us to think up questions for the people at the stations at the models. I wish I had purchased the day tour. I also don't feel like the crowd was really that much smaller than the day tour.
