African Food Tour | Saveurs de dégustation de la diaspora

Description

I am a travel advisor and founder of Integrity Elite Travel. I have been on five continents. I have experienced some of the most extraordinary travel this world has to offer. AfroFlavors Lisbon — created by the remarkable Kam Clemons — is the single most meaningful travel experience I have had in my entire career. Kam is an American woman who moved to Lisbon, navigated the Portuguese citizenship process, and built a business dedicated to celebrating the African and Afro-diaspora food culture woven throughout this extraordinary city. She is a cultural ambassador, a storyteller, a nurturer, and one of the most genuine and welcoming human beings I have ever met. She shared her journey with our entire group — why she came, how she stayed, why she built this tour, and why she loves every moment of it. Every word came from a place of complete authenticity and passion. The tour took us to four Black owned businesses — each one extraordinary in its own right. Leve Leve Tapas Bar — authentic Portuguese tapas served with warmth and excellence Tanoa Cafe — owned by the magnetic Miriam from Cape Verde, with signature-covered walls and pancakes that are among the best I have ever eaten Ancestralizando — Mariana's Afro-Brazilian street food served through a green-shuttered window, including Acaraje, homemade sauce and handcrafted caipirinha Mambo Restaurant — West African cuisine served family style, including the Catchupa da Ilha do Mambo that I will never forget for the rest of my life AfroFlavors Lisbon is not a food tour. It is a cultural education. It is a celebration of the African diaspora in one of Europe's most beautiful cities. It is an experience that will change the way you see Lisbon — and travel itself. I will be recommending this tour to every single client I send to Portugal. I will be sharing it with every travel professional I know. And I will be back — because one experience is not enough. Kam Clemons — thank you for what you have built. The world needs more of exactly this.
My most highly anticipated tour and they delivered. The food was exquisite. Kam was awesome. So appreciated them sharing their story and the rich African history. Definitely would like to do it again.
This was the most fun ive had! kitara was the best tour guide very informative and funny. food great
This tour was one of the best I’ve done! Kam was very knowledgeable on African Lisbon history and energetic the entire time. All the restaurants we visited were exceptional! The tastings were just the right size because we visited at least 4 places with an extra surprise at the end. Our group was expressive and talkative and immediately became family. Also definitely worth it to add the alcohol upgrade for drink tastings. I will always recommend this to everyone who asks me about must do things in Lisbon.
Kam gave such a detailed history of the diaspora of Lisbon and Portugal in general. I left the tour not only full from amazing food but full in knowledge and I would definitely recommend this tour!
This tour was a highlight of our experience in Lisbon. It was thoughtfully curated, reflecting the relationships that Kam and her team have built in the area/region. We were able to benefit formt he many connections she has made in Lisbon. The food was outstanding, learning more about the culture through food was insightful and overall, the tour was exceptional. We felt like we were among family and truly enjoyed learning about local businesses. I would not hesitate to book this tour. For those who may be worried about walking for 3+ hours, it was not a heavy lift. The tour keeps the infamous Lisbon hills in mind and we never felt overly exerted. Many thanks to Kam and her team for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Cam is knowledgable, she is friendly and brings the whole tour to life because she references her experiences. The food was amazing, even the rain did not deter from the experience.
Kam is an absolutely fantastic guide through Afro-Portuguese food and history. The restaurants we visited all had a warm, friendly vibe and excellent service. The dishes were delicious, unique and representative of various diasporic nationalities and cultures. If you want to experience Portugal through the lens of the diaspora, this is absolutely the way to go. Worth every penny and more. I recommend doing this early in your trip to tap into Kam’s fountain of local knowledge. For me, it was the perfect culmination of my first visit to Lisbon.
We enjoyed tasty portions from four African restaurants and learned about the history and foodways of the owners.
Thank you so much Candace for joining us! I’m so glad you enjoyed the delicious tastings and the stories behind each restaurant. It means a lot that you connected with both the flavors and the history — that’s truly what AfroFlavors is all about. Hope to see you again on your next trip to Lisbon!
Excellent tour! In addition to the amazing food and stories, my wife and I made friends who we subsequently ran into in our travels in London! There are a million food tours in Lisbon, but this one is truly unique and different and special…
I love hearing that the connections made on the tour extended all the way to London — that’s exactly the kind of community spirit we hope to inspire! 💛 Thank you so much Blue for joining us and for sharing such kind words. I’m so glad you enjoyed the food, stories, and energy that make AfroFlavors special. Hope to welcome you both back to Lisbon for more flavors and memories soon! 🌍✨
