We spent 5 days, 4 nights kayaking the Urubu River with friends. It cost less than the plane ticket (from the U.S.) and was absolutely worth so much more than that. Truly an experience we will remember and talk about forever. Our guide, Andre, and chef/valet, Pedro, were absolute legends. Can't say enough positive things about them. As none in our group spoke any Portuguese, it was a huge relief that Andre was totally fluent in English and had a deep knowledge of the history of the Amazon and Brazil, generally, in both academic and first-hand-experience contexts. It was easy to coordinate with AMT directly through email and Whatsapp. They picked us up from our hotel in Manaus and handled everything from there. Aside from a few fishermen here and there, we didn't see anyone else at all on the river and the vibes were always great. The meals Pedro chefed up for us breakfast, lunch, and dinner always brought us back to life after a long day of kayaking, hiking, and exploring. We did the tour from Aug 17-Aug 21, 2026, and while the weather itself was great (sunny, clear skies, very little rain), the lack of current in the river did not do us any favors and made the paddling a fun challenge. All in all, I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience with AMT and Andre and Pedro. Really a beautiful experience.

I traveled with two children, and Erikes created a perfect, private itinerary for us. On the first day, we were picked up at our hotel and could ask as many questions as we liked during the drive to the starting point. We used a canoe and a kayak, with one adult and one child in each. The trip lasted five days and four nights, giving us time to get a real feel for life in the rainforest. Erikes is knowledgeable and service-minded; he took us on several excursions into the forest and introduced us to the local wildlife. Throughout the trip, Erikes was accompanied by an assistant in a separate motorboat to handle logistics and safety. This meant that after a day of exploring, we would arrive at a ready-made camp and enjoy delicious hot meals. The pace was tailored to us, allowing plenty of time for a swim in the river and a rest in the shade during the day. All the meals were tasty and high-quality—and the coffee was ready first thing in the morning. Erikes struck a great balance regarding his presence, ensuring we also had time to enjoy the trip together as a family. Upon departure, we were safely transported back to Manaus and assisted all the way to our hotel.

Very engaging! It was like spending a week camping in the Amazon rainforest. Every day we paddled down an ideal river for kayaking with the chance to see some wildlife (especially birds and monkeys). Our guide was always very helpful, assisting us with the friends and preparing the food (plentiful), but unfortunately, along the way, he often did not accompany us (he proceeded further with a motorboat), so we could not receive information about the fauna and flora we encountered. Much depends on the time of year you arrive: during the rainy season, the rivers are high, easy to navigate but with fewer animals to see and less chance of seeing places that are flooded or out of reach (as was the case for us). Perhaps the dry season offers more opportunities for activities, but we still had the chance to walk a couple of times in the forest and reach caves and waterfalls. Fair price considering the entire experience.

Very very very Nice experience, the guides from amazon mystery tours are great, the food is awesome (exotic fruits were the best) and we visited beautiful places. WORTH YOUR MONEY!!!! We slept in the open jungle and under an open roof (zero mosquitos) I would recommend going later in the year during the dry period so you can see more animals. Make sure to bring fast drying clothes because our normal clothes stayed wet for days, also keep your phone in your pockets behind a zipper or around your neck because one of us lost their phone when he flipped. The kayaks are fun and not very intense because you go downstream all the time. Again we all enjoyed this trip and i would absolutely recommend!!!

We spent 7 awesome days with Erik and Gil on Jauaperi at a private tour with my wife. Splendid nature. Magic sounds of forest during nights. Very good and inventive meals, Erik is talented cook:) .. Entire expedition was perfect!!

Erikes, I will be forever grateful that you showed me the real rainforest - Mother Nature. The food you prepared over the fire, the trust you had in us to let us kanoe till night under the milky way, the second day waterfalls with only us and no other tourists far and wide, sleeping in hammocks, and managing so well even when we had to change plans. In the jungle, not everything can and should go as planned. You handled so well to adjust to the situation. Kanoeing was amazing, the places you took us were incredible, and the feel of trust in you and mother nature made this advanture so harmonious and beautiful. Small inconveniences are happily taken for such wondered outdoor experience!

I just returned from a five day kayak trip on the Urubu River with my guide Erikes and his logistics guy, Joo. It took me a while to set up the trip due to some personal issues but Suelen was very patient and helpful in answering all of my e-mails. The days consisted of a few hours kayaking which, because the water was particularly low, involved quite a bit of whitewater, although it was mostly simple to paddle through. Once we had to portage over rapids and a couple to times we had to get into the water to guide our kayaks through rocky areas. At one point I nearly got tossed from my boat and although I managed to right myself on my own, Erikes was right there ready to pull me to safety. Once a day we'd stop for a nice lunch which Joo would have waiting for us and either he or Erikes would usually string up a hammock for me to take a nap. Then back in the kayaks until we reached the camp for the night. Occasionally we'd have a hike, including one where there was an incredible waterfall that you could refresh yourself under. I'm an early riser so I saw a couple of sunrises. The food was quite good. Breakfast was usually eggs, some kind of tapioca pastry, meat, cheese and coffee. Lunch and dinner usually included rice, beans, manioc topping and one or more proteins, including chicken, beef, fish, sausage and barbecued spare ribs. There was plenty of cold water and occasionally some very welcome fruit juice as well as beer which goes down great on a hot muggy day. Back in Manaus we stopped at Erikes' home where his family was having a barbecue and I was given some of the best beef skewers I've ever had. Best part of the trip: Few, if any, mosquitos on this part of the Amazon! I got a couple of bites only on one day but they may have been from ants or other bugs.
