This tour takes 2hrs and it is well worth it. Paul is very knowledgeable & easy to understand. The tour is excellent and I would highly recommend.
John Burke was an excellent guide. Incredibly detailed knowledge of the history underpinned by personal connections to events and lived experience. Well worth the price.
Exceptional tour! Our guide (David, I believe? Please forgive us if we have that wrong) was very knowledgable and passionate about the cities history. I would think that a tour like this is essential on a visit to Derry.
The tour guide Paul Doherty was superb. His local first hand knowledge was insightful, detailed and inspiring. I recommend this tour as an essential part of a visit to the wonderful city of Derry.
We would certainly recommend this tour. It was informative, in depth and insightful. Arthur relayed the history which was sometimes harrowing, with compassion and humour, sharing conflict stories from all sides during the troubles. It has made us reflect a great deal regarding the peace wall and why the gates between communities are still locked at night? Also thank you for all the information you’ve provided Arthur, which we will look at, read and watch. Wishing you, the people of Belfast and Ireland a long lasting peace and prosperity. The bogside history tour led by John was very informative and gives you a detailed account of what had happened decades ago in this area. If you want to know more, I really recommend this tour to you!
We did the tour with Jimmy Toye, what an amazing and informative man. Getting the tour from Jimmy who lived the experience was truly fascinating. The museum is great too. I would highly recommend this tour. I learned so much from it.
John Burke was our guide and he was exceptionally knowledgeable of the history and events of Bloody Sunday. We learned so much more vs. trying to do it on our own. An experience one should partake in to truly understand what the times were like,
I attended the Bogside History Tour in July 2026. The guide, Paul, met us on time outside The Guildhall and was friendly from the start. Over the period of approx two and a quarter hours, Paul took us on a walk of the Bogside, showing us the murals and sharing the stories of those affected by the Troubles, and the locations of those events. While the subject matter was often heavy, Paul delivered this in an easy to understand manner while still giving the necessary respect and consideration to the events of the past. He was highly knowledgeable and professional, while still remaining friendly and approachable throughout the tour. The tour finished at the Museum of Free Derry, which was a short walk back to the Guildhall/town centre. I felt that the tour was reasonable (priced at £15) for the duration and level of detail/experience provided. Would highly recommend this tour.
Absolute must do if in Derry Tour guide has personal experience of the troubles and this is an outstanding way to understand a little more of the atrocities carried out by the British government. The guide was so passionate and so approachable and was incredibly clear in describing the events of decades past from his own experiences. To come to Derry and not do this tour would be missing a huge part of essential Irish history.
