We consider ourselves really blessed to have chosen Neptune Battle Tours for our visit to Normandy. Our guide was "Boy". (He is also the owner of Neptune Tours!!) Boy was phenomenal! I couldn't imagine a more professional, flexible, or knowledgeable guide for our visit to Normandy. We (my wife and I) started the day by getting off our train from Paris in the wrong town!! (Caen instead of Bayeux!!) Boy didn't hesitate at all. Once we realized why we couldn't find each other outside the Bayeux train station, he was immediately back on the road, headed to Caen to find his lost clients! No recriminations, no smirking, just polite and efficient flexibility to make things feel seamless to us. Some skills and traits that Boy has that we felt at EVERY stop on the day: Knowledgeable - Boy knows the Normandy Campaign. Not just D-Day...but the Normandy Campaign. He opened our own perspectives to understand a much larger picture than we had when starting the day. Personal Knowledge - Boy has met people. Veterans of D-Day. Veterans of the Campaign. Historians. Family members. Foundation leaders. His gentle manner and genuine interest has helped him to accumulate a TON of information, background, personal anecdotes, and different perspectives on the history all around you in that area. Manner - Boy shares his wealth of knowledge without ever appearing to lecture or seem to be reading any type of script or check-list. He truly shares what he knows in a way that makes what could be an overwhelming flow of info become a series of personal observations about what we were seeing. Pleasant - Boy is just a nice guy! He never forced conversation, or allowed awkward silences. It was just a fun day with someone we felt we could call "friend" by the time we said good-bye at the train station. (On time, and at the correct station!!!) It was our very first private tour, 1-on-1 with a guide. We were a bit nervous and wondering about spending a day with a stranger. Well, that "stranger" thing stopped about 5 minutes after he picked us up. And it never felt forced. We felt all of those skills throughout the very full, but unhurried, day. I understand why his reviews are all so positive. We strongly recommend planning your trip to the D-Day beaches so that you can engage Boy for a day.
Boy took our family of 5 adults on not just a D-Day tour; it was a life experience none of us will ever forget! He expertly guided us to all the main sites (and some less advertised sites) explaining the details of the events not just in facts but through the stories of people who were there. Boy personally knows scores of Normandy veterans and re-tells D-Day experiences with first hand stories of those who fought there. He is an avid history enthusiast since a young child. He conducts his tour with passion and a mission to keep the memory, heroism and sacrifices of those who fought in Normandy alive for future generations to appreciate and understand. I cannot more highly recommend this tour, 10 stars would not be high enough of a rating! Gift yourself this tour experience, you absolutely will not be disappointed!
Boy was the best tour guide one could ask for. He was extremely knowledgeable, accommodating. informative, and passionate about preserving the memory of DDay and the stories of the many men and women who served. His command of the details of the events was superb. We feel honored to have had him as our guide.
Boy was amazing! I have waited a long time to visit Normandy and the day could not have gone better.
This was a great day tour. Boy is very knowledgeable and obviously a lifelong learner. He will not talk your ear off, he’ll calmly guide you and answer questions, then bring up stories he has learned or been told by vets. My husband has done some reading so had plenty of questions—it made for a rich experience. Bring water with you, it’s a long day with a nice stop for lunch, but wished we had water with us!
Boy is exceptional. If you want a sensitive and caring guide who has all the technical information (dates/numbers/battle fronts) but who grounds it all in personal stories…many, many times…of people he has actually met and talked to (yes - veterans who are in their 90’s) he is your man. The tour is unrushed but complete. He allows you time to absorb what you are seeing and is sensitive to what you are feeling. And there is a lot to feel on this tour. He took us to a great diner for lunch, answered all out questions, and generally was receptive. And something he did that the other tour guides cannot do…took us into some private places (he had the keys!) - we saw the living quarters of where the German officers lived during the occupation including murals on the walls drawn the the German soldiers of life in the barracks. He is a fantastic guide and we felt genuinely blessed to have him.
Book this tour! Boy, the tour guide, is so knowledgeable and will guide you to all the D day places of interest. Our group of seven had a wonderful full day tour with a stop for lunch. Everyone is so happy we went on this D-Day adventure
Our full day tour far exceeded our expectations. The tour owner, Boy, has a wealth of knowledge about all details of the battles and strategy that occurred in Normandy. His personal affiliation with veterans provided a deeper connection and understanding of what occurred in 1944. We so appreciated the special treat of seeing the home that provides veterans an avenue to share their stories and heal. Overall it was an amazing tour that I will never forget. I highly recommend Neptune Battle Tours and Boy's expert guidance.
Our day with Boy touring Normandy was incredible. His knowledge of WWII events is so in depth and meaningful. Boy provided us with a very memorable and emotional day of understanding what happened in Normandy and all of France during the war. Highly, highly recommend hiring Boy while in Normandy.
Our tour with Boy was beyond our expectations. His friendly demeanor and easy going personality combined to make us so very comfortable. His knowledge of Dday history would rival any first rate historian. Beyond that his passion for veterans is clearly profound. Rating him excellent is really a disservice to our experience as he deserves praise much higher than that.
