Bienvenido a Rajarata! (El Condado del Rey o La Tierra de Reyes) Comenzaremos nuestro día desde el monasterio del bosque de Vessagiriya, que es una de las dos viviendas más antiguas de monjes budistas en la isla. En Vessagiriya, los huéspedes comenzarán a sumergirse profundamente en la Antigua Civilización Sinhalesa alimentada con Budismo, Agricultura, Bellas Artes, Arquitectura, Oficios, Relaciones Internacionales e Ingeniería de Encuadernación de Hechizos Maravillas y allí se hace una idea de cómo se veía Anuradhapura en su era dorada desde su mismo comienzo.
Escondido al lado de una roca en el Ran Masu Uyana (El Parque Real de los Peces Dorados) intercalado entre el Tissa Wewa y el Templo de la Roca Isurumuniya en Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka es un artefacto único de la Antigua Sri Lanka que se conoce localmente como “Bawa Chakraya” o el “Sakwala Chakraya.
El árbol de Sri Maha Bodhi o árbol sagrado de Bodhi (un higo o árbol pipal conocido científicamente como Ficus Religiosa) es considerado como el primero de los ocho lugares sagrados en Anuradhapura. Se registra que esta es la rama de derecha del árbol Sri Maha Bodhi en Bodh Gaya en la India bajo la cual el Asceta Siddhartha alcanzó la Ilustración, y fue enviado por el emperador Ashoka a través de su amada hija, la monja budista Theri Sanghamitta, a petición del rey cingalés Devanampiyatissa en el siglo III a. C. Desde este punto en adelante llegó a ser venerado por los sucesivos Reyes, Monjes, Monjas y Budistas Laicos, ya que es una conexión viva con el Buda Gautama. Particularmente, se acepta generalmente que sería el árbol vivo plantado humano más antiguo del mundo con los registros escritos más largos y actualmente con casi 2300 años de antigüedad.
Al norte o el Árbol Sagrado de Bodhi, podemos presenciar una enorme colección de pilares de granito de pie que se ha identificado como el edificio en ruinas del antiguo palacio descarado que una vez sirvió como el centro administrativo del antiguo complejo del monasterio Maha Vihara construido bajo la guía del Gran Rey Gamini Abhaya en el siglo II a. C., un nieto del rey Devanampiyatissa. Era un edificio de nueve plantas con 1000 cámaras diferentes. El nombre, Brazen Palce deriva del hecho de que su techo era de paja con tejas de cobre.
Ruwanveliseya stupa también conocido como el Ratnamali o como el Mahathupa (Th Great Stupa) fue construido bajo la guía del Gran Amable Gamini Abhaya en el siglo II a. C. Las crónicas describen fantásticamente la ceremonia de inauguración de esta Estupa como un gran festival que se celebró en Anuradhapura con la participación de Invitados incluso de otros países como diplomáticos. Sin embargo fue destruida durante la invasión Chola por el siglo X AC y fue restaurada la estupa a su gloria original en el siglo XII AC por el rey Parakkramabahu el más grande. Esto es realmente algo así como un baño de vapor moderno, pero esto no fue solo para disfrutar del baño de vapor con agua tibia, sino de un medicamento de cingalés bien desarrollado que se realizó en el siglo IV AC en adelante. Allí podemos discutir cómo funcionó y cómo los monjes enfermos de la Universidad Abhayagiriya curaron sus enfermedades de la piel.
Allí veremos de nuevo un gran comedero de granito en forma de gradas de canoas con un asombroso calcógrafo en las instalaciones del refectorio del Monasterio de Abhayagiriya. El monje chino Fa-hsien que estudiaba en la Universidad de Abhayagiriya en el siglo V d.C. registró que había 5000 monjes budistas en el Monasterio y esta artesa en particular podía contener suficiente arroz para tal número.
Esta es una de las mejores obras de arte en Sri Lanka data de aproximadamente el siglo VIII AC. Y esta obra maestra muestra preciosamente el sentido estético de los antiguos artesanos y lo increíblemente que han puesto en práctica sus conocimientos, habilidades, talentos, sentimientos.
Este es conocido popularmente como el Eth-Pokuna por los lugareños o el estanque del elefante en inglés, situado al suroeste del Refectorio es quizás el estanque hecho por el hombre más grande de Asia que fue construido en el siglo III AC. Se dice que esto es tres veces más grande que una piscina olímpica moderna. El milagro aquí no es solo su enorme tamaño, sino los conductos subterráneos que todavía funcionan y han estado suministrando agua al estanque desde embalses cercanos y en la esquina suroeste podemos notar una compuerta de cisterna que sugiere que el agua se distribuyó a otros estanques relativamente más pequeños en las cercanías que representan las excelentes habilidades de ingeniería hidráulica de los antiguos cingaleses.
La piedra lunar es otra creación más hermosa e impresionante del antiguo escultor. Sirve de felpudo al pie de un tramo de escaleras hacia un santuario budista, pero el escultor lo transforma en una obra de arte de gran excelencia.

I had an outstanding guided tour in Anuradhapura and can highly recommend it. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the history of the ancient city. Lucky was an amazing guide. He has deep knowledge of Buddhism, history and archaeology and brought the stones and sights to life. His English is excellent and he tells lots of stories. The day started with an overview of the life of Buddha and his teachings- and, importantly, how they relate to Buddhism as practiced today. As we explored the amazing sights, Lucky would point out interesting details and relate them to the bigger picture that he was building. We also visited Mihinthale to finish the day which was a great add on. I highly recommend Lucky as a guide.
